Marriage: The Trip Report - Update 2/28 - Final Thoughts & Link to Disneyland TR!

Hey everyone!
Our fellow DISer Marc is in a contest with the Pepsi Refresh Project. His project is to buy iPads for his math classroom to help the kids learn.

I think that is awesome. Kids will IMMEDIATELY be interested!

Please take a minute to vote for him - and vote DAILY. He's quite far down the list and needs to be in the top 15 to win. Vote, vote, vote! If you have unlimited texting, please also text to vote (you can do both!). And please spread the word!

Oh Brooke, I'm sorry to hear about your Grandmother and Dad! Prayers that they sail through everything just fine.:goodvibes

Great HS update! We've never done the Toy Story picture queue area (that sounds like it's worded wrong!). It looks like such fun though.

I guess I'm kinda of a bad mom since I purposely walk quickly past the HISTK area! I know that if my kids got in there, we'd be there f-o-r-e-v-e-r. Seriously, I think mine are part monkey since they adore any and all playgrounds.

Love the sweet Henry slide pics, he's getting so big now!

Laundry on vacation seems wrong. It's like cleaning the bathroom on vacation, who does that? Not me. But then again I always overpack.

Oh and congrats on the Mexican Riviera cruise AND Disneyland trip! Just be prepared that Disneyland is different from DW and you'll be fine.:thumbsup2

:rotfl2: I love that you cruise right past the HISTK area! I perfectly understand why and I'm certain you are not the only parent!

Oh gosh, cleaning the bathroom on vacation would be the WORST! I actually don't mind doing laundry on vacation usually. :confused3 When we are in the 1 bedroom villas it's so wonderfully easy because it's IN our room. The studios present an element of hassle, but it's not all bad.

Sending good thoughts for your grandmother and dad.

Looks like a fun afternoon at DHS. H is just so cute!!

Thank you! It was a very fun day at DHS, we always seem to have good days there.

You should really look at staying off-property at DL. It's not really the same as WDW. We stayed at the HoJo and it was a really easy walk to the parks. The room was big and they had a cute pool play area for kids.

The reason I was looking onsite is because of the TA rate they are giving us for onsite - it includes tickets and overall would be MUCH cheaper than any offsite. I don't think the rate was bad that we were given AT ALL, but just double what we were expecting, which was a hit with our shoestring budget! Plans have changed though....

Well, you already know if you have any questions that I can help answer about your dad's surgery - fire away. Fingers crossed and lots of prayers that he sails throught the surgery. Same with your grandmother!

I just read about the cruise from Melissa and it sounds like such a fabulous opportunity. How absolutely exciting.

Fingers also crossed for the gifted program. I know that education in NYC is a big deal and very stressful. I hope Henry ends up in a wonderful school. I feel certain he will.

Philadelphia?????? Did I hear you say Philly????? Oh we must get together!

Thank you MEK! So far I haven't had any questions, but I've sorta just pushed it aside for now. Time is getting closer though, so I'll be getting more nervous in the next few days.

The school system here is CRAZY. Seriously crazy. It's worse in Manhattan, but still nutty in Queens.

And yes, you DID hear me say Philly. It's looking more and more like this is what we'll be doing and I would LOVE to get together! I'll keep you posted.

It seems to have been a good day.

It really was! We always have a good time at DHS.

Love the Studios update, Brook. The family photo is great!

And the photos in line waiting to see Buzz are a hoot!

I love little Henry taking a nap in his stroller.

We got a little silly in that queue! It was fun.

You have had a lot on your mind, lately, Brook! Big hugs for you!

Adorable picture of Henry with Buzz! :goodvibes

Thank you Jackie! I really have - and Grandma's stress is over, but here comes Dad... it will be okay though, we'll make it through!

I really need to take a day and explore DHS....I never know where all the characters are.

The Animation Academy area has most of the characters, Woody & Buzz across from TSM, McQueen & Mater after the Streets of America kinda (hard spot to explain!), and now Phineas and Ferb over by Mama Melrose somewhere. The park has such a weird layout compared to the rest, it's hard to make sense of it all.

The honey I shrunk the audience playground looks like so much fun! I've never been inside, but I'm putting it on our "must dos" list for our next trip. I think Everett would have a blast!

I'm sorry to hear about the surgeries, but I hope that they went smoothly and that your family members will be on the mend soon.

I am also really jealous about the Mexican riviera trip! We honeymooned there, and it is lovely, you are going to have a great time!

He will love it! It's such a cute playground and has a great "littles" area with steps for them to practice on, a water wall and a little slide.

Seriously cute pictures of Henry! :thumbsup2

Thank you! :goodvibes

Been thinking of you and your family. :)

Thank you MeMom. We need those good thoughts!

Well, as many of you know, Grandma SAILED through the surgery with flying colors - THANK YOU for your prayers! It could not have gone better. She even went home on the same day. Now, continued prayers that the cancer does not return.

She was also able to move into her own home again. For the past couple years she has been living with her son (about 3 hours from her house) because of just getting up there in age, and then her home flooded while my cousin was living there. The bottom floor had to be completely gutted. Everything was replaced and it was finally completed and they moved back in right around her 90th birthday. It was the best gift she could have gotten. My Mom says the house is beautiful, they did a very nice job of redesigning some of the layout and upgrading everything. I'm looking forward to seeing it when we visit next month!

In Mexican Riviera news...it's looking like I'm going to cancel it. I haven't yet, but I will be. After I got the itinerary I noticed how very little Disneyland time I would have, maybe a few hours if I was lucky, that turned me off a bit. I think I will wait for a dedicated Disneyland agent program, or a family trip, before I head west.

I'm okay with this. We are talking of doing a "stay-cation" for the week in February that Henry has off, and we are pretty much set on doing a couple nights in Philly! It's SO cheap for us to get there, and it's somewhere we want to see, so why not? :yay: MEK, I will keep you posted on this! I will probably need some tips too!

And naturally, I have priced out a WDW trip, and a variety of cruises for those dates as well. :rolleyes1 The staycation is winning.

Dad has surgery in less than a week. I haven't really been focused on it with all the busyness of the holidays and normal life, but it's starting to hit me this week. Continued prayers are greatly appreciated.

If you haven't seen these, or if we aren't friends on Facebook, HERE is an album of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and the day before when Henry and I adventured into Manhattan to watch the giant balloons blown up! What a very cool experience.

I hope you all had a fantastic Thanksgiving. Thank you for hanging in with me during my intensely long hiatuses from the TR!!

Now...I'm going to work on an UPDATE!

Glad to hear GM did well and is back home. Hope things go as well for Dad. Totally understand about putting off the vaca. But I would probably do Philly in warmer weather as you will do a lot of walking.

We left off after a break back at the Boardwalk, a nap for Henry, laundry for me. We then made our way back to the boat dock and back to DHS to use our TSM FPs.

Henry really liked the cars.

Surprised? Ya, didn't think so.

And guess who caved???

1213275385_zWcNz-L.jpg

4 cars for $15 and they are normally $6 each, so it was a deal!

And Joe's:

Henry had never really reacted to this ride, but he LOVED it this time and wanted to ride again, a quick check of the wait time...160 minutes. Uh, no, not happening.

We made our way toward the front of the park. We were planning on dinner at Starring Rolls.

Anyone see the problem there?

Starring Rolls isn't open for dinner! :headache:

I hadn't realized this at the time, so our dinner plans foiled, either Joe or I suggested Epcot for dinner.

Sounds like a plan to me! Let's go!

1213286576_NJdQy-L.jpg

Back to the boat!

1213287755_pb2hc-L.jpg

During the boat ride to Epcot we decided we'd do Mexico QS again. We loved it so much on our first night, we wanted it again. And I took the moment to get up close shots of Henry's new cars.

This one is Zurg. Either I failed to look at the very poor picture I took, or it wasn't worth the battle with Henry to get a better second shot!

Soon enough we were here

1213291642_b2ow2-L.jpg

and dining on

Joe's beef tacos

Droolness.

Our bellies full and satisfied smiles on our face, our second meal there was also a success. I prefer the beef tacos, but still devoured the chicken ones.

And since we are already in Mexico, we had to go find Donald!

We always ooh & ahhh over the fireworks

1213313384_GBy5J-L.jpg

Adios!

When we arrived back at the exit, the CM asked us if we'd like to go again, and of course Henry let out a loud "YES!"...sooooo, around we went! After we got back again I gave Henry a quick little Spanish lesson and had him say "Gracias" to the CM, she replied back with a "De Nada" and a big smile for him. It made his night.

As we were walking back through the pavilion we saw the Donald pinatas for sale and Henry noticed this one

1213315252_znFg6-L.jpg

Kinda creepy, no? We just told Henry Donald was winking. He also started to talk about how the pinatas were made of Legos, which Joe and I found funny and sweet - I can totally see why he thought they were!

Time for Illuminations was approaching.

What goes well with fireworks?

Caramel of course!

To Germany!

We ended up with caramel corn

1213333108_U3ZEy-L.jpg

and a caramel apple oatmeal cookie.

1213336573_2S55Z-L.jpg

The caramel corn was amazing and while Joe enjoyed the cookie, I just thought it was okay. I would not get it again, it just didn't have enough flavor when there are other wonderful delights to choose from instead!.

Also in Germany we noticed the Rapunzel tower as part of the Flower & Garden Festival

1213333989_ZRCHC-L.jpg

And then moved onto Italy to get some coffee to go with our treats.

We stayed in Italy to watch, and there was quite a crowd in front of us, but our view was good enough. We both just enjoyed eating our goodies, drinking our coffee and watching.

And despite the coffee and dessert...I still took pictures, but only a few.

So glad Grandma is happy again. Prayers for your Pops, too. :thumbsup2

I bet it was cool to see the parade floats. What a neat experience for Henry!

I'll be cancelling my WDW March trip, too. I'm just holding off until the last minute. In January, I will hopefully be calling to move the money over to an October trip. I hope we can do a Dollywood and/or an Atlanta weekend, at least, so the spring won't be a total bust.

After the show we started to walk and Henry was asleep before we even walked to the next country! So we took that time to quickly check out the pearl ring settings and prices. The Pick A Pearl is something I have wanted to do for manyyyyyy trips, but just haven't yet.

1213356065_8ak8w-L.jpg

My favorites are the $33.50 and the $49. I like the $59 on the left too.

After all it was Henry's snack credit! :goodvibes

The dude who checked us out, Markus, WAS Disney. He was so happy and cheery, but genuine at the same time. Love it when the CMs love their jobs!

It had been a great day for both Joe and I. Fairly relaxed, yet productive enough that I wasn't twitching.

Tomorrow, we move to BLT!

And I start to twitch.

So glad Grandma is happy again. Prayers for your Pops, too. :thumbsup2

Thank you  He needs prayers of getting his life on track. He's never taken very good care of himself (hence the triple-bypass), I KNOW he can change, he just has to choose too.

It was very cool to see the parade. Henry told me earlier today, "Thank you for taking me to go see the big balloons, let's go again!"

Oh, I'm sorry to hear you have to cancel your March trip! :sad2: What a bummer! I hope the Dollywood/Atlanta works out at least to help lessen the blow. And your October trip will be EXTRA special then too. :goodvibes

Hey there! I just wanted to tell you that I am working really hard to get caught up on your report. I got a little behind before we left for Disney and then being gone and trying to get life back to normal after vacation... well, I got WAY behind. There just aren't enough hours in the day for real life and the DIS. :sad2: Anyway, I'll be reading along tonight and hopefully I'll get caught up. I just didn't want you to think that I had forgotten you!

Brook, first and most important, I am so glad to hear that grandma's surgery went well (I'm sorry I missed it on FB...busy week/weekend). I hope the cancer stays away. I will be praying for your dad for good results from his surgery.

Love the updates, and Henry's new cars are just too cute.

Great pictures of Epcot.

And good job Henry on your score on TSM.

I am so hungry for something sweet tonight...and your update about killed me! :worship: I love Henry in the bubble. :lmao:

Well, as many of you know, Grandma SAILED through the surgery with flying colors - THANK YOU for your prayers! It could not have gone better. She even went home on the same day. Now, continued prayers that the cancer does not return. [/QUOTE}

Sending you prayers. I've seen some of your FB posts about this.

naturally, I have priced out a WDW trip, and a variety of cruises for those dates as well. :rolleyes1 The staycation is winning.

Not a suprise at all! :rotfl: Sorry you had to cancel your cruise, but it sounds like you have good reasons to do so.

I checked out your pics of the parade...they're great. I love how much you're taking advantage of living in NYC. :thumbsup2 So cool. I'm hoping that we make it down sometime this month to see the tree in Rockefeller Center and check out a few other things...the Disney store for sure. :rotfl:

I would just like to say that I have come to despise every gift shop on Disney property.... OK, perhaps that's a bit strong, but after yanking Max out of most of them in July. And you would think there would be more inexpensive trinkets around...not so much. :sad2:

You have convinced me...we will have our EPCOT CS dinner at La Hacienda. Looks so yummy. And I love Karamel Kuche. That popcorn...so yummy!

Beautiful pictures of Henry and Illuminations, too!

OMG! I need to get to the Karmel shop right now! I am seriously drooling.

Nice nighttime photos!:thumbsup2 Henry has such a fun spark in his eyes! He cracks me up!

Good news about your grandmother. :goodvibes

It had been a great day for both Joe and I. Fairly relaxed, yet productive enough that I wasn't twitching.

:rotfl2: What a nice afternoon...a little DHS, a little Epcot; I don't remember reading about any meltdowns -- definitely not twitch-inducing!

I'm glad to hear that your grandma's surgery went well!! I'll be sending good thoughts to your dad as well! :goodvibes

I can't wait to try the caramel shop on our trip! Everything there looks so good! (even the "not-so-great" cookie! :rotfl:)
