Marriage License Date Question - Bevard Co.

Hi! I'm filling out the paperwork for the License by Mail, and it asks for an anticipated marriage date. We are getting married on May 16th, but I'm thinking of putting May 1st on it, just to make sure we get the paperwork on time. I noticed they said the license is good for 60 days....so I'm assuming the license dosen't HAVE to be used on that particular day? I guess in essence, I'm asking, when you get your paperwork back to give to the officiant, does it have a pre-typed date, or is it all filled out after the ceremony?

The date you have on the application is just so that they make sure they dont' send you your license any more than 60 days in advance. I'd put the real date so they can keep to their process. You should get your license at some point in early to mid April. The actual wedding date will be filled out by your officiant at the ceremony.

I know it feels like you're leaving this important detail open ended, but they'll make sure you have your paperwork in plenty of time!

The license is good 60 days from the date that Brevard County signs and files it which means, after you send back your paperwork, they send you the license. You then have to sign it and have it notarized and send it back. When Brevard County sends it back to you, it should be stamped or signed by a clerk there. Its that date that it is 60 days from.

Does that make sense? I kind of confused myself there.

Lets say you send back the license all signed and notarized, Brevard County then fills it out and stamps it. Say the date they stamp it is March 1, 2009. Then you have 60 days from March 1, 2009 to get married.

They are also VERY prompt at getting it to you. I was worried too, but didn't have any problems at all. Don't sweat it !

I sent my application at the 60 day mark which turned out to be to soon. They held on to it for a while until it got closer. I freaked out but when I called they told me I was too early and that they would send me my license at the right time. They did!

Looks like I sent my application in way too early then.. I sent mine the end or middle of Jan. and we dont get married until May.. I was thinking about calling them but guess I wont until at least the 50 day mark since they wont send it out til 60 days prior.

I sent it on the 60 day mark and it didn't screw anything up. Brevard County will time it out right. The whole process took me less than 30 days. I would say about 2 weeks actually. If you send the application in on the 60 day mark, you won't get anything back from them right away. It will be held for about 3 weeks so don't worry. They will have the license to you on time.

Thanks for your suggestion Toni! I'm kinda worried about the snail mail in Philly, We've had problems before and I know I'm probably jinxing myself now!

I guess I'll do it on the 60 day mark and just expect it to be held. That way if there are any mail problems, there will be time to sort it out.

there is a beginning step you can do before 60 days out. You send the application to them and they'll send the actual license paperwork back for you to get notarized and send back to them. They send that back to you with their official info within your 60 day window. I did the first part of ours about 90 days out, got it back a couple weeks later. Then it took a week or two for DH and I to get to a notary to sign and send it back to them again.

Ours just came in the mail today. We sent it in on Feb. 19. So it wasn't too long. The first time they sent it, when we had to get it notarized it came in about 2 or 3 days. So quick!
