Well just 3 weeks before we leave for our very sneaky super special trip with just DH and me. We are going for only 5 days so I wanted to try some different places as well as some old favorites for TS dinners.
I have on my list
BOMA
Cape May
Brown Derby
Olivia's and
Marrakesh

I don't see too much on Marrakesh when I search and I could actually choose whatever time I wanted for dinner. That scares me. Is this a hidden gem or a a big loser. The meals look pricy so I don't want to waste my money.

So love it or hate it ? Feel free to post your experiences.

We have eaten at Marakesh a few times, and we like it. :)

It is not a fine dining experience, but it has an interesting atmosphere, and the food is good. They have a belly dancer, and musicians, and it is a fun place to try. I think the restaurant often goes overlooked because not many people are familiar with Moroccan food. The big sell outs are Italy, Canada and Mexico. These are cuisines that most people have in their home towns, and many people are more comfortable with the familiar. (Not us though :)

I think Brown Derby is the best restaurant food wise that you selected.

Boma is also delicious and fun!

Happy Dining! :sunny:

Marrakesh is worth the trip, a true hidden gem. I agree that not many people think about Morrocan food, but it is good and different. The restaurant is also at the back of the Morrocan area and not everyone can find it.
The other good thing about the restaurant is that it is on the DVC Perks and has a 10 or 20% discount, I'm not sure which one it is but I think it's the 20%. They have a nice sampler plate that is very good. The entertainment is also very nice.

I agree with Mich Mouse 100%. Well, except about HBD...i am eating there for the first time this next trip in Oct...so I am very happy to hear such a good review, especially from someone who I agree with about Marrakesh.

I loved Marrakesh, but then again, I love exotic food. I think the best choice on your list, foodwise, is Boma. I just love that place.

Are you eating dinner at Olivia's? I don't mean to diss it, but we ate there when we stayed at OKW and had breakfast there. I would never drive to eat there, but it is "adequate." Especially if you are staying at OKW and just want the convenience of it.

My BF and I stumbled across Marrakesh on our first visit in 2002. The prix fixe menu on the board outside looked tempting, so we went in. We were led into the dining room and discovered that apart from staff WE WERE THE ONLY PEOPLE IN THERE! We looked at each other and thought, "Oh, crap." However, we ended up loving the food, our server was terribly nice, and eventually the tables began to fill up. The highlight was watching the absolutely gorgeous belly dancer get a bunch of little girls, and their grandfather, to dance with her.

We enjoyed it so much that we'll be going for dinner there (next week!), and it's the ONLY place I've booked that we ate at the last time.

I posted about this place about a month ago. Got almost all positive replies. Looking forward to dining there in November. We plan to do the sampler platter for 3 of us and let the little kids pick off that. The food sounds very nice and interesting.

I also LOVE Brown Derby. We will do that for our Fantasmic Package. Can't wait for it!

Good luck!

Love Marrakesh! It's the place we eat at more than once every trip.

The food was very disappointing--expensive and extremely bland. However, the restaurant is GEORGEOUS, ther sevice was very good, and the band and belly dsancer were a blast.

Love Marrekesh...interesting food/spices and beautiful atmosphere. My DS4 really enjoyed dancing with the bellydancer.. :rotfl2:

Epcot dining doesn't get any better!

Love Marrakesh. The veggie couscous I had their once was so-so, but everything else is great. The appetizers tend to be really great and the entrees are pretty good too. I would recommend trying either one of the feasts or the Night in Casablanca entree since it'll give you a variety of things to try. Nothing in partiuclar interests me on the dessert menu though-- but I'm usually too full at that point anyhow.

Minor gripe- the wine list is tiny and what's on it isn't very good. If you fell like a drink, their mixed drinks are great!

We liked Marrakesh. It was different, but not necessarily exotic enough for me (enough for DH, though). The belly dancer was entertaining, and the decor was something different that most people can't find at home!

Everyone, thanks for the info about Marrakesh; I think we'll have to try it on our trip in January :sunny:

Here's my suggestion for a meal out of this world: Jiko

Love Boma too, but I don't think Jiko is redundant at all. Great wine, and great flatbread, steak. Oooh, wish I were there now!

Mrs Nick-I agree with you about Jiko. Great service, atmosphere and wonderful, exotic food. The only reason I like to recommend Boma is that you can taste so many things, and if you do not like something, you don't have to finish it. I guess it just boiled dowbn to whether you would rather have a fine dining experience or just and exotic feast. I like both places, but for different moods.

We ate at Marrakesh for the first time on our last trip and LOVED it. The food tasted very good and the entertainment was great (I liked the bellydancer :earseek: ). I am not one to usually venture off too far from comfort foods but I really liked it and I am definitely glad I gave it a try. :)

Loved the belly dancer, thought the food was very bland. Not bad, just lacked the typical morrocan seasoning.

DH have eaten at a few Moroccan restaurants and we weren't all that impressed with Marrakesh. It was just "okay". The dancer was probably the worst of the dancers that we've seen, the food was good (but not great), the decor was very nice though. Our server was almost never at our table but spent a lot of time flirting with the girl at the table beside us (gave her his phone number and even paid for her dinner!). Overall (aside from the service) we'd rate it about a 6/10. Definitely worth trying once, but we won't do it again.

LOL - sounds like getting a table next to some good looking single gals would not be a good idea!!! Sorry he wasn't giving your table the proper attention, that stinks. A funny story though!

I do wish that they had floor seating like most MOroccan restaurants. That would be fun!
