What is your favorite margarita recipe?

Triple sec?
Agave?
Blended?
On the rocks?

There seem to be so many variations.

This is the first time I am attempting a “real” margarita and not just lime aid with tequila. I’d like to try a few variations.

Frozen, with salt, please!

Not a connoisseur by any means, but if I'm making them at home I'm including triple sec and fresh lime juice.

I prefer on the rocks with salt and made with fresh lime juice. At home I use Hornitos tequila (mostly Plata but I do prefer Reposado), Cointreau, agave and lime juice. Nothing too fancy.

My recipe is this:

2 oz tequila
3/4 oz Cointreau
1 lime
1/2 oz agave (use less for a less sweet flavor. I tend to use a little less than half).

I like 'em on the rocks with salt. Frozen margs are always welcome on WDW trips:) Keep it simple: tequila, lime, and cointreau or triple sec.

ETA: I don't get super expensive tequila, but avoid the cheapest stuff.

That's about how I make them. Oddly, I don't like mine with salt. I usually love salt and add too much to food all the time, but not on drinks. I also love adding 1-2oz of passionfruit puree when I have it. We are more likely to have Grand Marnier on hand than Cointreau, too.

So, I can't stand Tequila, but my husband likes it a lot, so I make him a lot of margaritas.

My advice is play with different citrus flavors. Orange, Tangerine, Grapefruit. Those all blend really well with Tequila.

In addition, fresh watermelon makes a great margarita. I usually just buy a mini one, blend it up, and strain it and that juice becomes the base. Super refreshing with some lime juice added as well. You can also shortcut this with Simply Watermelon juice, available practically everywhere.

You can try rimming the glass with Tajin also. Adds a unique twist.

We also use Cointreau. It's better than Triple Sec. More smooth and balanced, rather than artificial tasting.

My go to recipe is

2 parts Tequila
1 part triple sec
2 parts Fresh juice
Shake with ice and pour over ice in a glass.

If you want it blended, you have to punch up the juice base with some simple or flavored syrup (like Monin) or add fresh fruit to give it more body, like fresh strawberries, watermelon, mango, etc. If you don't do this, it will taste watered down.

Do you enjoy margarita mock tails though?

I’m not a huge fan of tequila and refuse to spend $$$$ to see if the “good stuff” is any better. Cinco de Mayo is the only time I buy it.

Watermelon sounds like it would be yummy.

If you are making fruity cocktails, the cheapest option is just fine. The only time I splurge for top shelf liquor is in a shot or something like a standard martini.

While I don't drink now, when I did...

A pineapple margarita with a Tajin rim instead of salt. Even better with some fresh jalapeños.

Since we bought our Margaritaville blended is now my favorite. I grate peel off several limes, remove the peel off 12 limes, and puree the entire lime and mix with agave syrup and store. Tequila, lime mixture, Cointreau in pitcher. Hook up to machine to shave, blend and drink. It makes a really good grand marnier slushie.

Mrs. wabbott has perfected margaritas, at least to our taste. 6-8 ounces tequila, 3 ounces limeade, 3 ounces sweet & sour mixer, poured into a 40 oz home blender. Fill with ice cubes and blend. Moisten rim of glasses with the liquid and dip into margarita salt. Pour up and enjoy!
