Mardi Gras on a Friday night?

Is there anything other than the parade on Friday nights during Mardi Gras? I know the bands all play on Saturday, but we won't be around for that. We will be heading down in 2 weeks for the first time and can't wait!

There is a band there on Friday night but not a name band. When they start the whole week long celebrations they are there the whole week and then move out on Friday night.
