I've never been to Mardi Gras at USO and wonder how the...Ummm, ahem, cough, cough beads are handed out? I mean at the real Mardi Gras, Fantasy Fest, etc. there are certain, ummm, requirements that I wouldn't think appropriate for a theme park.

I remember someone having discussed her ability to garner more beads than the "average" female.

At Mardi Gras USO, I believe they are just thrown from the floats to anyone in the audience.

Rumour has it that the most beads are dispensed at the beginning of the parade route.

having been a bead thrower both from a float and as a rabble rouser in the crowd, i would say that with the instructions they give you on the float it should be an even flow. They tell you where the half-way point is so you can parcel out your supply. That being said there are those that do not listen or have a clue as to the length of the parade. You will see some floats that during the stretch for the end of the parade are already out of beads, and other floats throwing a lot of beads at the end cause they hoarded them till the end. While displaying extra inducements is not acceptable, i have found that if you can make eye contact and be noticed you will have a good chance of having beads tossed your way.

Since MsDis and i are local, and over the years have accumulated so many beads. We sometimes go to the parks wearing a lot of beads, just before the parade and collect a few more at the start point of the parade and then we position ourselves towards the end of the parade and stand behind the crowd that is trying to get more beads from the floats. We then take off our beads and begin tossing them into the crowd. It is fun to watch people looking around trying to find the new source of incoming beads. Of course we are discrete and act like we are also trying to locate the unusual source. when they turn thier attention back to the floats we start the flow of incoming all over again. Ok, so we are mean, or i am sure MsDis would say it is just me that is the mean one.

I think evil might be a better term to use....but I think we are both guilty of that!

I've been involved in the shenanigans at Curious George as well...in fact, I'm feeling that evil bug creeping up on me...perhaps an afternoon in the ball area is in order soon!
