Unless I just missed it? it seems nobody else has started a March trip thread so I guess I'm the only idiot going during this crazy busy season! Unfortunately I cannot change my dd's birthday (that was poor planning on my part lol) so we are stuck going next week. This is a re-do from what was supposed to be her 7th birthday trip in March of 2020, so we are celebrating her 9th next week.

We leave tomorrow, heading down I-75 and stopping overnight at the KOA in Jennings FL. Then a nice easy 3 hour trip into Orlando Saturday (hopefully). They are calling for storms and high winds tomorrow night and into Saturday so fingers crossed the driving isn't too bad in our class A cause poor DH doesn't need any more grey hairs, he has 2 daughters so he has enough grey already.

We are checking into a preferred site on Saturday the 12th and checking out early Sunday the 20th. I have my green Mickey head with Ruthies12 on it that I'll put on the front of the camper if anybody will be there and wants to say hi. I'll try to come back on with my site number once we check in.

We have 7 day park tickets and thank goodness already made our park passes awhile back cause they are completely greyed out on the availability calendar for our days. Please pray for us :rotfl2:

There is an official March thread but don' think I have seen one specificlly for Fort Wilderness. Safe travels! Have fun on your trip.

We're on our way down 75, currently in Georgia. The forecast shows severe storms in Northern Florida where we were going to stop tonight so I looked around and was able to call and get a campsite at a place closer to Orlando. The new site is only an hour from the fort. Question for you more experienced peeps- what time should I plan to arrive at the fort tomorrow? Wanting to minimize the time we have to sit around and wait for our site to be available but it being a Saturday during spring break I'm afraid to arrive at check in time. I did online checkin but still worried campers will be backed out to the road tomorrow.....

I would plan on getting there as early as is reasonable for you. It will give you the best selection of available sites or the earliest checkout if nothing is available. In January, I arrived around 9am, but I needed a long Full hookup site and was hoping for an available site. My assigned site wasn't ready. There were very few open sites as it was marathon weekend. I did find an available site, but not in the loop I preferred. If I had arrived 2 hours later, around 11 (check out time), there were dozens available.

Arriving around check out time would have been the best choice on a big checkout day (Sunday of marathon weekend). Being Spring Break, I still think earlier the better. You always have the option of waiting in the overflow lot. You can wander the Fort, go to a park or hit DS until your site is ready.

Well we made it! Storms were going to hit us at the place we were at and not abate until after their checkout time so we decided we'd rather get the drive over with before the storm and sit in Disney's parking lot. So we are here! Managed to get parked in the lot and our jeep unhooked before the rain and wind started. Our site is not ready but we are all checked in, got DDs bday button and the cm wouldn't tell what site we are getting but did confirm that we are getting the 100 loop that I requested so yeah for that!

Fam is napping while we wait but I'm keeping an eye on radar. We are parked not far from the ranch building so we can run in there if a tornado warning pops up. Right now just saying severe storms. Fingers crossed this passes quickly!

We made it into our spot! Got the text right around 10ish and it was spot 117 which is one I wanted so we didn't see if we could switch, we just took it. I love this location! We are right across from the walkway to the marina.

Was only sprinkling when we got the text so we hurried on down to the loop and of course just as soon we start backing into our spot the sky opened up lol. Figures. But anyway we are all set up now and dd wants to go the playground and then we'll hit the camp store and waste time until our dinner at wilderness lodge. We have storybook dining at artist point this evening. Nobody in the family felt like going to Disney springs. Probably best to let them relax anyway, we have a busy week ahead of us!

Welcome Home Ruthies! We LOVE the 100 loop.

We do too! :thumbsup2

One time we stayed in 116 right next to the walkway. It was sweet - I could take my folding chair to the very back of the campsite nearest Trails End and hear the music from the porch and in-ground speakers. :music:

GREAT site, Ruthies!

I may try for a Preferred site when we go back again. How long is your MH? I'm 42 ft, but need room in front for a car. I can't tell how much room there is behind your rig.

There is gravel behind our camper, we have just the tires on the concrete for the jack's to go down. Camper is 38 foot. I used the fort wilderness sites app and had a list of ones we would fit on so as soon as I saw the number, I looked at my list, realized we would fit, and off we went. There are some in the preferred sites we would not fit on so I was a little worried about that.

We were in a Full (1624) in January. I've always pushed into the rock pad to give me plenty of room in front as long as there aren't trees at the back.

117 looks plenty long enough.

Yea!! So glad y'all made it OK. My phone has been warning me all morning of the storms in Fort Wilderness area. So glad all went great with your site. We always tried to arrive no later than 8:30 AM to get the sites we wanted. Our favorites are 700,800 or 900. Happy birthday to your DD & have a BLAST this coming week. Only days for rain is Tues. & Wed - temps. in the hi 70's to low 80's. I love your Motorhome!! Thank you for the great pictures! Love to hear all about your adventures if you have time.
