March No Buy..Rolling Into Spring!

I'm calling this a no buy even tho I spent $98. I got a birthday check for $125 from my uncle , and I really needed professional clothes. I laid out all my clothes on the bed that I thought were still wearable for work, and decided I just needed a couple blouses, a white tee shirt for under a jacket and a pair of shoes. I ended up getting 3 blouses, 1 white t-shirt, 2 pairs of a shoes and some of my favorite shampoo for $98. Thanks New York and company and Payless BOGO, get one half sales. :-)

March 12 : 0

We try very hard to be flexible and supportive on this thread. But, I think we are going to have to draw a line in the sand here. The way I read it you bought SEVEN personal items and didn't spend a dime of budgeted money. I think that has to be something other than just plain old, "no buy day."

How about "Birthday Blessing" "Birthday Blowout" "Jackpot" or "Go Pro" day?:goodvibes

Everyone gets to make their own rules, so if it's a "no buy" for her, it's a "no buy" for her. That's the beauty of the thread!

Virgderon: I would have called it a no buy because what if your uncle had sent you the exact same items wrapped up in a box? You would have called it a no buy day for sure. This was a gift as well, this way you just know everything fits :yay:!

Everyone is coming to my DS's party, so that's good. He chose a bowling cake because he thinks he can play with the cake topper later. :rotfl2:

I thought annsteere was being sarcastic and saying it was even better than a $0 Buy.

Virdergon, I think you did great with your purchases today! What a great idea to lay all the clothes out to really get a grasp on what you truly needed!

I spent about $180 today. :faint: Close to $50 of that were prescriptions, but still. Ugh. I am not in pace to meet my budget goal for this month. Almost all the spending today was groceries, so we should be good for a while. I did notice that the sales are not as good as in the past. Also, we biffed on a couple of items that we thought were on sale due to product placement and signage, but they turned out to not be on sale and we didn't notice until we got home. Sigh.

I'll update my numbers later today. I'm posting from my phone now.

I agree that the comment meant that it was a better than a zero day! At least that is how I took it.

Bought lots of stuff today, but some of it are going in the wedding budget : a dress for step-daughter, and shirts for the guys. All on sale too!

This month is a LOT more expensive than February so far... it will be hard to stay under budget...

RonandMel,

You are going to be an absolute beautiful bride!!! Your dress is beautiful, as are you!! Thank you SP much for sending me your picture!! I can't wait to see wedding pictures on the beach! I am so happy that someone is taping your ceremony!! It will be a great keepsake and help your Mom feel as if she were there!!:goodvibes

Thank you Sunnie. Glad you liked the dress. :goodvibes

A quick run to their Goodwill in the afternoon while they napped was mixed. Got white dress trousers that will be a wardrobe basic. I've lost 17 pounds since last summer so they were a need. Also got a pair of "Lilly" print slacks that were definitely an indulgence. But, they were only 5 bucks and that is what allowance is for. . . .the occasional frivolous spend. . . right?

I wouldn't call 5$ for slacks frivolous, I would call it a great find. :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

I too took annsteere's comment as sort of "tongue-in-cheek" funny, better than a no-buy day. :)

As for food, I too have noticed that prices have gone up and sales are not as good. :sad2:

Virdergon, I think you did great with your purchases today! What a great idea to lay all the clothes out to really get a grasp on what you truly needed!

D'oh! I didn't read it that way originally, but I totally see it now! I don't know where my head was at. Sorry annsteere!

I thought about it later, and in the spirit of the thread, I should have counted it as a buy day and added the $125 to my available budget to spend.

I know we are flexible, but that is what I probably should have done. Maybe I will add one more no buy day to my total goal to make up for it.

I took annsteere comments as being light hearted, and thought she was very funny !!! I did do really well. In the past I would not have been nearly as careful about what I was buying. I also went to 4 stores and 4 stores only, where I knew they were having sales or I had a coupon. My habits have changed so much since I started on this thread!

I love how supportive we all are. We are awesome.

Yes. I had my tongue firmly planted in my cheek. The last thing I'd like to see on this board is a spirit where we judge each other or try to tell anybody else what their goals or measurements should be.

Apologies to anybody who thought I was serious.

I'm in for the month! This should be a good month. No birthdays, baby showers, weddings, ect! I am hopeful that we will be spending a bit extra on moving, but we'll see if our current house rents soon. We did move back our move date to May 1st, so we have a bit more time.

I'm going for 14 no buys this month.

March 1 :cheer2:

March 2 $31 groceries, $40 gas

March 3 $20 groceries (why is there always one more thing to pick up?)

March 4 :cheer2:

March 5 :cheer2:

March 6 $273 groceries- that will hopefully keep us in food for the next 2 weeks and it includes a baby shower gift (apparently I spoke too soon when I said we didn't have any this month) and dollar bills to play a shower game.

March 7 :cheer2: PLUS, I actually won all my dollar bills back plus $36 at the shower last night. That was enough to cover my baby shower gift. Hooray!! I did pay tuition for my guys today, but that comes out of a separate account, so I'm not counting that.

March 8 $40 gas, $11 landfill run. I also got my hair cut, but I paid for that out of my shower winnings!

March 9 :cheer2:

March 10 $16 ticket to the local children's museum

March 11 $17 groceries-it was my turn to parent help in DS's class and I didn't read until this morning that I needed to bring a special snack. Nothing like an early morning grocery run. $40 gas AGAIN!

March 11 We were going to run the St. Patricks day run this morning (first run of race season, YAY!!), BUT there was a huge SNAFU where DH and I got seperated and once we finally found each other, we were too late to register (note to selves, never attempt race day registration again). The boys did run in the kids race, which was really the point anyway. Not racing saved us $60. We did spend $1 to park and $4 on doughnuts after the "race". Plus I decided to have everyone over tomorrow for corned beef and cabbage, $25 groceries for that. Tomorrow should be a no buy day.

March 12 I always jinx myself when I say "tomorrow should be a no buy day"! $65 car maintenance-oil change with some additional work. $25 packing supplies-ran out of packing tape. $30 dog food.

Spent the day fretting about the events in Japan. DD is far south of where it happened, but it's just so devastating. I've taken a lot of calls and facebook messages from people who were worried, which is understandable since most of our friends only know that she is in Japan , not exactly where. I'm more than thankful she is safe, but what a terrible thing for all the people there.
