March 5, 2011 - Bushwacker Wild Wild Westerners

Please feel free to share as much as you feel comfortable with sharing. The more you do, the better friendships that form. This has always made the biggest difference on our meets thread.

With that said . . .(and so you don't have to call us the "Ready" Family, although don't get me wrong, I actually like that name and my husband will get a kick out of it b/c I am such a planner that we truly are always "ready" when our vacations roll around) . . . we are the Ward Family!!!

My kids really did not love the kids clubs in 2009 so we'll see how it goes this time. They even made friends from our DIS group meet and still did not want to go. Oddly enough, one family (with a daughter just one year older than ours) from our DIS group in 2009 was moving to Mandeville two weeks after our cruise. how bizarre is that? And, we are all still friends!!!

DS will be two weeks away from turning 14 so I'm sure he will want to go to "The Stack" although I don't know how I feel about that. Anyone have experience with the teen club?

Our girls will be 4 and 3 when we cruise, are there other young ones out there? I am really hoping they enjoy the clubs and that we can enjoy some time as grownups again!!!

This is our first DC, but have been to DW many times. We are from Nebraska and will be traveling with two other families. This will be a Christmas surprise for our children and are looking forward to getting to know some of the other families on our trip.

Hello Ward Family.... This will be the first time my DS is old enough for the "Teen Seen" so we will see how it goes. Now with the "Open" activity seen, we will see where he gravitates to. He is a tall boy though. He is 12 and already 5 foot 11. He will soon be 13 though. Did your kids actually talk and communicate with the kids prior to the cruise. I have found this to be the difference. When we just told them about each other and then introduced them on the ship, was much different than them emailing, chatting and us exchanging pictures. So I think the more you put into it, the better the results. Cool about the other family. Are they coming this cruise too?

There has been so many new fellow cruisers, that I am going to send out one BIG to ALL!!!!!!!

Cruising with the ejkj family will be myself, DH and DD's... Emily soon to be 17 and Kaylee 14 at time of cruise

Did your kids actually talk and communicate with the kids prior to the cruise. I have found this to be the difference. They really did not talk with the kids before our first cruise. SO, maybe that will make a difference.

As for the other Mandeville family that we met on our first cruise -- I just left her a message and I'm going to try to talk her into it!!

They are from Nebraska as well, but I haven't conviced them to join Disboards.......yet!!! There are four more adults and 4 more kids: girl(12) girl(8) girl(7) girl(4). I will have to ask their permission to post any personal info. We have winter break from school that week, so it worked out perfect for us to go. We are still trying to recruit some other families from school to come along.

Some maybe bad news:

They changed Madison's spring break to the end of March not during Easter like they always do!! What does that mean? We MIGHT not be able to pull Madison out of school, she MIGHT have her ERB testing then. She can not miss that!! I put in word that a latter date or even earlier date would be better. I'll let you know as soon as I know!

Ok, enough said about that!

Just PLEEEEASE do not be thee case. Last time we pulled out it was for that very reason... Do you want me to write to the district.... I could them that it can not be..... This is the DISer I was referencing; but wanted her to introduce herself. This is my friend BJ.... Got to her. Hey BJ, last cruise with us, you had Mike & Melissa from Nebraska too.... You may have a MN Nebraska fan that you started. DS still wears the shirt you gave hime. Look at our California pics through Emily's account he has it on there.... So Nebraskans and Louisanans.... At least we are keeping it all in the same states...

just wanted to say that we are going on our very first cruise, a Disney one too! DH, myself, DD7 and DD10....we are soo excited and just cant wait!

Wow!!!! Our group is really growing.



The weather in Missouri has been beautiful for the most part this month. Still enjoying some pool days but have also been enjoying our new hot tub it's Russell's hot tub, that is...but he shares I think he decided he might need it since I "convinced" him to do the WDW half-marathon with me in January!!!!! He's starting to train and is really doing GREAT!!!!! I'm really PROUD of him!!!

We leave for WDW a week from tomorrow. Our daughter, Kristin, meets us there on Thursday 9/30!!! And the Wine and Dine Half-Marathon that Kristin and I are doing together is Saturday, 10/2 at 10 PM. Then it's time until 3 AM at Epcot!!! Wonder how many glasses of wine its going to take this old gal after that run??????? Maybe I need my Bushwacker friends there at the finish with ice cold Bushwackers for me.

Michelle--Keeping my fingers crossed that things work out with your daughter's school How dare they change Madison's spring break. Take some to the teacher and principal and be an until they agree to do the testing any other week but THE WEEK OF OUR CRUISE!!!!!!

OK! Time to settle down. I need my beauty rest you know especially if we're "adopting" Tink's kids that week!!!!

Looking forward to meeting all of you! A little bit about myself. I have a 10 year old and 7 year old girls and we are looking forward to our very first cruise. It took a little convincing to get my husband on board but he finally gave in
We are taking advantage of the Kids Sail Free program and got a CAT 5, so pretty happy . now I am just waiting until some good fares come out ..i look almost almost everyday. I still have to book a hotel at Port canaveral for the night before, and book a rental car..hoping to do that this week sometime...

So excited to have gotton a great deal in a pre-cruise hotel and rental car.
On hotwire, got the Comfort Inn and Suites for only $66 per night and it includes a hot breakfast and its only 10 minutes for the terminal! As for a rental car...we got 2 one-way rentals. I went on Costco.com and got for our first part, got a full-size car for 39$ and with taxes its like around $52 and for our return also got it with taxes included for $55 so we are saving lots of money $107 round trip for a family of 4, works for us

The girls really wanted to go on the Disney Cruise Bus but when we factored the cost and then the fact, that we are coming the night before and I would like to get to the port earlier than later ...it works out perfect for us..now waiting on Jet Blue to send out some great deals!!

And also decided so skip excursions except in Key West where we will take the trolly tour on our own and that will give is the freedome to get off and on. After we pay for our cruise, will book Palo and our Couples Massage

Sounds like you got some really good deals on your hotel and car rental!

I think we'll do the trolley tour on our own too. I like that you can get on and off too!

I don't think we'll do Palo for dinner but might for brunch and of course, we've got to book some spa time!!!!!
