March 4, 2007 Wonder - Anyone Else?

I have a question. Looking over the DCL materials and other stuff, it appears that there is not really a formal night on the 3-day or 4-day cruises. They only talk about the formal night on the 7-day or longer cruises. What is your take on this? Is there one? Or is it just that people choose to mke one night a formal night? Or is it that people choose to dress up on the night they are scheduled to eat in the fanciest of the dinning rooms? Still trying to decide whether to bring the sport coat and tie.

From what I have read on other threads, there is what is called a "formal night" on the 4 day cruise. I think it is the Nassau night. I originally thought it was whatever night you ate at Triton's but I have read that is not correct, it is the same night for everyone (Monday - I think).

It is more dressy than the other nights, but not like on the 7 night cruise, where they wear tuxes and formal dresses. My DH is taking Dockers, a nice shirt and (yes) his formal shoes. If you are comfortable in a sport coat, I think that is what most men wear (from what I read), but not necessarily a tie. The women are wearing anything from fancy dresses to nice pantsuits. I am just going to wear a black skirt with a nice top. My DD will either wear a dress (she loves dresses) or her Cinderella costume.

I found this stuff on threads titled "Wonder 4 nights), no particular thread, just those in general.

I knew I shouldn't have opened my mouth. 2"-6" of Lake Effect today.

Frazzledad, how are you doing? You haven't said much lately.

I would send you a picture of our snow storm, but it melted off in 2 hours. It was our only snow storm this year and actually accumulated on the ground, but not the streets. I can't complain about it, it is nothing like what you have been going through, but it does make it hard to finish the metal roof on the building we want done before we leave next Tues. The employees just might have to work Sat and Sun to get it done, but if they are not working today, that will limit their overtime.

Linda

Thanks, Linda. I'm still trying to kick this head cold or whatever it is. Went to the Dr. Monday and got some meds. Trying to stay away from the rest of the family so they don't get it. Definitely don't need anyone sick for when we leave.

I'm kind of bummed that the "formal night" is going to be Monday. We are going on the all day excersion to Atlantis/Aquarium. We get off the boat 9:30 and get back at 4:30. We have first seating! Yikes! I hope we have plenty of time to shower and get cleaned up. Not to mention the fact we'll be exhausted. I am packing my DH's sportcoat, dress khakis and nice dress shoes. Oh yeah; and a tie. Bryce will be in khaki's and a nice shirt and my Daughter will be in a smocked dress. I would think they would do it the night before we get off the ship??? They didn't ask me what the schedule should be though did they? :rotfl2:

Linda; definately try to pack some of those items in a seperate bag if you can. The airlines will charge you a fortune if the weight goes over 50 lbs. I'm nervous about how much luggage we'll have. I'm going to set our things out tonight so that I know we've purchased everything we need and I know what is going in which bag. Oh I hate to pack! :headache:

I'm planning to get the paint chips and making name tags too. I really want to meet everyone. That was such a great idea!

I'm off to start putting things together.

The threads that I have been reading about the schedule, it doesn't seem anyone has been thrilled about formal night being the night of Nassau. Pirate night is the last night. For us, that is good, because we are actually dressing up more for that (will take more time getting ready), than "formal" night. Since I haven't done this kind of thing before, I don't know if "formal" night would actually be better the 1st night or the Castaway Cay night? I think Nassau will probably be the busiest for most people, especially with the ship docked not as convenient as Castaway Cay.

Oh, I am well aware of the charges for extra weight. We have some nimrods (did I say that out loud) that work for us. We are in commercial construction nationwide and sometimes have to send our guys on airlines. Well, let's not take extra bags and even out the tools, let's through them all in with our clothes in one bag. Does anyone know how much those big wrenches weigh? Well, the airlines do. Duh! Oh, I need a vacation from these guys. Can anyone tell?

Well, I have divided out that bag I had initially packed that was very heavy. I actually have 1 bag packed, I think I will have another done tonight.

The paint chip name tags are a cheap, easy way to do it. The thread for the 7 night Magic trip that leaves on March 3rd (I accidently got on that thread), is doing foam Mickey ear name tags. Someone is making all those up. They also have scheduled 2 different group brunches at Palo, several pre-cruise meetings. This with over 100 dishers. I am not that energetic. They do impress me though; they have even come up with an official name for their group and made door signs with the name. And these people have never met in person, you would think they were best friends (all 100 of them)

Linda

Ok; clearly someone has a lot of time on their hands and now I'm jealous. Foam name tags for everyone? :rotfl: I wish I had time to make all of you time tags. With it being the end of the month, I'm doing good to remember my name. (I'm in real estate.) I think your idea to do the paint chips was so fun Linda! I think we should definately plan a time and location to meet up. It sure would be sad to go home and not have met any or some of you after all of the posts and introductions that we've made. Linda; you and I are staying at the same resort for our land portion. We could meet prior to boarding the ship maybe the night before or something :goodvibes

Frazzled Dad; I hope you're feeling better soon. I felt a scratching throat coming on today and immediately reached for the Zicam. With all of the ice we've had lately I've been so nervous with the kids playing outside. I can just see one of them breaking an arm or leg. Wouldn't it be our luck. LOL!!

Michelle

Eagercruiser; congrats on your test by the way. :cheer2:

Eagercruiser

Yes, congrats. What are you studying? I remember college days and loved them; although I stressed about that also.

Doodlesmommy

We will be at Epcot on Thurs. If I remember right you will also be there at the German restaurant in the afternoon? You have reservations correct? What time? Maybe we could meet up around there.

We are doing Thurs Epcot, Friday AK and MGM and Sat MK. I think Sat night we might go to the Cirque D'Sol like show (the earlier one). I am playing that one by ear, just seeing how tired we are and how much we have spent by then.

Remember, we will be the one's making a terrible fashion statement in bright orange Boise State University shirts :scared1:

I think all or most of these people work who are doing all this planning. And they all have kids. I don't know how they do it :confused3

I will try to find out where the Cast off party is and maybe make suggestions on meeting somewhere for that? Any ideas are greatly appreciated

I am lucky enough to be able to choose whether I am going to work from home or go to the office. Well, EVERYONE at the office has been VERY sick lately; so to say the least, I have been doing a lot of work from home. Also, the whole family is taking Airborne several times a day.

My DH was wrestling with the DD and he sat on her heal and heard a crunch. She seems to be o.k., but it is hard to tell this early. And I don't know how many times I tripped over the vacum cord today. It is getting scary. I am kind of thinking with the flu going around and the clumsiness we should all just stay in bed until we leave. Oh, you can get up to pee and pack. There will be enough eating on the cruise, I think I might limit that :rotfl2:

Linda

Ok; Avery (my 3 year old daughter) woke up at 4 a.m. this morning complaining of a headache. I put her in bed with us and around 5:00 I rolled over and put my hand on her head. Yep; 101 degrees! Unbelievable! We are trading off with her today. Someone do a get well dance.....quick.

Michelle

Oh my gosh Michelle,Linda ,Frazzledad.I hope you and your families get back to your normal self soooooooon.I am doing the get well dance right now.Infact my 8 year old started coughing a little two days back.It always starts like this for her.I have been giving her cough syrup every night and although the weather is in 40s since last couple of days I am still sending her to school in layers of clothnig.Yesterday she came back home sweating.A good home remedy for cough and cold is honey mixed with ginger juice(1tsp. honey to 1/2 tsp. crushed ginger juice). It works like magic for my kids. But it is not recomended for dry cough.

Linda, thanks for the offer on getting Bonnie for me,but I think you have enough on your hands right now than to run to a grocery store.I hope your daughter's foot is alright.By the way how is your toe?

Eagercruiser; congrats on your test by the way. :cheer2:

Michelle

Thanks Michelle and Linda as well.I am completing my remaining few credits for bachelors in accounting.I did Bachelors in Commerce from India but its a 3 year degree there. So to get an undergraduate degree in USA I need to do 1 more year of study.Got married early and had kids soon after marriage. Now that they are grown up a little I decided to finish it up.Its more of a personal challenge now.Its hard to study among 20 somethings.Sometimes I think I should have been doing masters degree by now :). But better late than never.Have to thank my DH for supporting me.

Thanks for asking about the toe. It is doing good, I am pretty much walking normally. It is still sensitive, but doing much better. Riki's heel seems to be o.k. I don't know if anyone else experiences this, but if she hurts herself and we keep bringing it up she milks it. So, we didn't bring it up today and she was walking on it, but tenderly. She has P.E. today and didn't ask for a note to be excused, so I think she is o.k.

DH started coughing today, but I think I am just being real sensitive about not getting sick. Doodlesmommy, a fever is real sick. We haven't had fevers, but I jump at every sniffle, sneeze and cough. Here's some pixie dust to get better, figure eagercruiser can do the dance, I will pixie dust (don't want me dancing - it is pretty sad) pixiedust:

Well, I am going to do a little work and climb back into bed. I am pretty achey today (probably not sick, I have fibromyalgia and it likes to act up when the weather changes and the weather is changing here). So, just a little rest and I should be good to go. Plus I haven't been getting to bed at my normal 9:00 lately, it has been around midnight, which is really late for me.

Linda

I hate to be a tattletale, but I saw a post by paxton'smom on another thread (she might have even started the thread). She is cheating on us. I thought we were all exclusve on this thread.

Just kidding.:lmao: I was surfing to see if any other groups had written about meet and greets to see where they had it on the ship to respond to Linda's question. When I saw Paxtonsmon's topic, I got excited figureing we could benefit from the responses. Turns out we are the intended beneficiaries. Thanks Paxtonsmom. I'll let her report what they said. Don't want to steal anyone's thunder.;)

Frazzleddad, I ordered sand pails for the kids from Shirley over the weekend. What a great idea. She was such a nice lady. Talked to her for 45 minutes.

I have read a few posts regarding meets. It sounds like meeting at the Cast off Party might work. I guess they put a stage over the Goofy Pool. So, maybe we can say facing the pool. Anyone have any suggestions on how to be more specific?

Also, I hadn't thought about this, but we should put our user name and real names on the name tags. The Mickey paint chips aren't that big, so I am going to use one for user name and 1 for real name.

Any other ideas on this?

We only have 5 days until we fly out and 10 days until the cruise :cool1:

Linda

Hi everyone!

On the Thanksgiving cruise we had a meet at about 2:30 at the Goofy pool. This way we all had time to eat and we were done before the lifeboat drill. One member of the group had even made Tshirts for all of us, so we were pretty easy to spot!

Totally agree. Shirley was awesome to talk to and had a great sense of humor We are staying in Cape Canaveral the night before and we are going to try and stop in to see her if we have time.

Who is Shirley?? Is she with the same company that advertises on this site? I ordered sand pails filled with goodies for the kids a few weeks ago. It was so easy and she was so accomodating. I wonder if its the same person.

I was actually logging on to say thank you for the well wishes and pixie dust. Avery is now fever free and getting better. It may have something to do with the bottle of Tylenol we've forced on her today but fever free nonetheless. (Just kidding.....we didn't give her that much. ;) ) Now if we can just get the rest of us from getting this little cold we'll be doing alright.

I never thought of the shirt idea. That would have been fun. I don't guess there is time for that now. How bout we post pictures so we can all figure out who we are meeting. Meeting at the pool before the party sounds like a great idea. If I knew what I was packing I could tell you what we'd be wearing. Seems like there is always something better to do than pack every night. Survivor and Grey's Anatomy were on tonight. I wonder why nothing gets accomplished on Thursdays. :lmao:

7 more days til we leave!!!! :tink:
