March 29th, 2014 Fantasy Cruise

Hello everyone! For our last cruise someone started a closed Facebook page for everyone to get to know each other. It worked out great bc it is easier to access. Does anyone know how to do this or have any interest in it??? It was a lot of fun getting to know people before the cruise:cheer2:Thanks!

Well... I certainly know how to create a FB group, but have mixed feelings on it. We had one on our last cruise, and the group got pretty fragmented between the facebookers and not. I must admit, I pretty much stopped using disboards and was exclusively on facebook. When we got on the cruise and met some people, there were some non-facebook people that felt pretty left out.

I'm fine either way... just don't want to leave anyone out. If you guys want me to create a group I can.

AnnMarie3, welcome. We are Michiganders now, but my kids were born in Atlanta, we lived within walking distance of Tritt Elem in East Cobb. I miss it sometimes - especially the nice weather.

klepton, I will put out a post for you to link to for FE info then and gydell can continue to manage the list of all the cruisers on the first page. You asked about FE group size. Personally, I like to give something to everyone; getting stuff in your FE is like getting mail that you actually want and it's just fun to have something there when you go out and come back to your room, and more cabins means more mail! However, some people feel strongly about having no more than like 20 cabins, which I understand too. So I'd like to maintain a total list and then if we get a lot of people, we can make a list A and a list B, but for those who want to be on both, that's fine. As always, it's an individual decision how much to give and how many people to give to. I've heard of people getting stressed out when there are too many cabins to buy/create for and I'd like to make sure it stays fun, not stressful.
I also know where you are coming from with the FB thing. It is easier to 'chat' that way and you do get to know people better but it does leave some people out. That's a tough call. I don't mind if someone starts a FB and I'd join in, but we'd just have to remember to make sure anything regarding an onboard meet and greet, or other group related things get posted on both the DIS meet and the FB.

Where are you in Michigan? We are from Ohio (Cincinnati area), but I spent a lot of my childhood summers in Michigan (Houghton Lake) and get up to other parts of the state somewhat frequently for business.

For FE, I like your suggestion. Do multiple groups but allow those who choose to be in multiple groups. Nice to have someone around who's organized this before... :yay:

I talked to my wife this morning about FB, and we generally liked that better for pre and post-cruise communication. It really is better for engagement, and is much more personal. It was also nice to be able to put a face to a name beforehand. I went ahead and created a FB group, which I'll link to in a separate post in a few minutes. I'll just take it upon myself to make sure that any pertinent information posted on FB also makes its way to this thread so no one is left out.

We've created a Facebook group for any of us who like the convenience of posting to Facebook to communicate prior to the cruise. You can request to join the group here:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/450254265047833/

PLEASE NOTE:

  • This is a closed facebook group, that means that only members will be able to read the content posted in it
  • Others on Facebook *WILL* be able to see if you have joined and are a member of the group. If you haven't told your kids/parents/friends about the cruise yet, and don't want them to find out on Facebook, I wouldn't join just yet
  • I currently have it set up where an administrator needs to approve all people joining. While I don't want it to be Fort Knox, I want to create an environment where everyone can be reasonably comfortable that what they post will only be seen by others on this cruise. Therefore, I'll do my best to ensure that I only approve those who are likely cruisers.
  • Remember that joining the group will remove most of your anonymity; your real name, and any information you've made public on Facebook, will be visible to other members of the group

FOR ANYONE NOT JOINING THE GROUP:
We as a group, and myself individually, will try our best to make sure anyone who doesn't have a Facebook account-or doesn't want to join the group-will get all pertinent information about FE, Meets, group excursions, etc. on this board. The intent of the Facebook group is not to replace the discussion here, it's to augment it.

Hi, I was watching this roll call and it is nice to see it take off! We are a family of 5 from East Cobb (I know - small world!) travelling during our Spring Break. We are DW - me, DH - George, DDs 14 & 12, and DS 10 (ages are at the time of sailing, oldest daughter will turn 15 soon after we get back). We cruised on the Dream for Spring Break '12 and loved it, but I felt like I needed more time on the ship to get the full experience. We are really looking forward to cruising on the Fantasy. We would like to participate in FE's and join the FB page.

Welcome! I never would have thought about doing a Disney cruise without kids, until we went on one with kids. :) There's a lot for the adults to do.

Awesome! I added a link to this post in the opening post. I'll get DW to coordinate our participation with you so I don't have to get involved as much. :woohoo:

Welcome to the forums Soccermags!

Kikids is running the FE, so she can get in touch with you on that. Or just post a few more times here on the forums and you'll be able to send PMs yourself.

We just booked this cruise. It will be me, dh, dd 10 and ds 18. We will be sailing with another family and possibly a couple of friends of ds. Happy 100, we will be your next door neighbors in 10160:). I have previously sailed on the Magic and Wonder and the Fantasy last June.
We are also from the Atlanta area.

Yah!

We may also be cruising with another family. We have also sailed the Magic, Wonder and Fantasy just this last December. We loved the fantasy and booked again for our spring break in 2014 clear out here in the Pacific Northwest, Washington state.

Is 10160 a 5E also? I am so excited to stay in the odd shaped room and squeeze out a little more room in stateroom and can't wait to lounge on our larger verandah!:yay:

Just got back from 10 days at Disney World for Spring Break and decided it was time to plan for next year - so here we are - ready to Set Sail March 29, 2014 on the Fantasy.

This will be our second Disney Cruise. First one on the Magic in spring of 2011 (Eastern Caribbean) was GREAT!

It will be me, my wife and two sons (11 and 8).

We're from just North of Cincinnati.

Looking forward to getting hooked in with the FE and FB groups and getting to know all of you a little better before we cruise.

Mark

OOPS - need to update my Count Down to "second Disney Cruise"
