March 2012 flights

I hate to rain on everyone's parade but in March you are going to pay premium prices, and there will almost certainly be no sales whatsoever. It's a high demand season and route.

And, flight prices almost never go down, they always go up. They cheapest rates are available early, then it gets more expensive. Airlines make the bulk of their money from business travelers that book a week to days or even hours before the flight. Been there, done that.

Finally, don't bother waiting for frequent flyer miles to help you, especially on Airtran. Their A+ rewards seats are usually gone early, if avail at all. If the price for seats has already gone up, there are no A+ rewards seats left.

Welcome to the new state of air travel. Less planes, all packed. And Airtran, the absolute cheapest option to MCO from northern cities, will be eaten up by Southwest flying bus service next year....then it REALLY gets fun.

i sure hope the prices will go down -
i have not flown since 2/2009 - back then we still had a free checkedbag, and i paid $588 for the three of us to fly Non stop MKE - MCO.
i have begun checking daily :headache::sick: and the price does not go any lower than $358/PP - = $1040.xx, coupled with $120 for roundtrip checked bags- no way am i paying that.( this is the lowest i found, Airtran - Frontier out of MKE is $1800.xx!:scared1:) i have signed up for sale alerts and keeping my hopes up for a Spring break sale ( i know they happen for us snow birds:yay:). I will keep checking and i have commited myself that i will not pay more than $800 for us to fly.( that is still $266 R/T, which i think is high) if that does not happen by the time we hit our 45 day mark,( which is 2/9/12, so spring break sales should be out by then) then the trip will be cancelled. I will not pay as much to fly as i am for the resort, tx & food combined.
southwest is out also, they have only connecting flights and at horrible times.
if i see fares low, i will definately post them here ASAP.
driving is not an option for us -

That would be great if post...I'm holding some home. Although, I will not cancel our vacation..I'll just suck it up! The thought makes me cringe, but I go back to nursing school and this will be our last vacation until I'm done.

We're in Woodbury, so not too far from either of you! If you look at airfare out of Chicago for the same time frame, it's about 1/2 the price. So annoying![/QUOTE]

Not far at all!! :)

We are in Ohio and usually get our tickets for $150 or so. This time they are almost double. I looked for February on Southwest and much cheaper. I even looked for next month and much cheaper, so I will keep looking. If they don't go down, we will drive....

March 2011: I flew for $225 round trip.

March 2012: the cost is $528 round trip. Same time of year, same airport, same airline.

Oh how I miss the days of paying less than $150 RT from MD to Florida. Now it's easily $200 RT but when you multiply that by 5 people that's a lot of cash...that we could spend elsewhere in Disney. So I think our future travel is going to be driving or taking the Autotrain...but even Autotrain is NOT cheap! :)

My DH and I are doing a short adults-only trip this March and I keep looking at flights but can't get myself to pull the trigger on spending $400 for us to fly, so I think we'll just get some extra quality time together by driving. ;)

I'd drive if I could, but this is a girls only trip for my dd's and I and I don't feel comfortable driving from Minnesota to Florida without my dh. Flight prices are holding steady...I'm thinking I may just may bite the bullet and get the airfare now.
