March 18, 2012 Spring Break on the Dream

We are actually looking at the same two as you...the Dolphin Encounter and the Stingray at Castaway Cay. My debate is...do I really want to spend the $$ on the Dolphin encounter and do I really want to get off the boat in Nassau?? As far as the Stingray, cost is not a problem, there just seems like you would have plenty of fun on Castaway Cay without booking an excursion.

Yay! The holidays are over, and I get to concentrate on preparing for this cruise!

This is our first cruise ever. We are WDW veterans, but never stepped foot on a cruise ship. I am so lost I have no idea where to start planning. This cruise will be me, DH, DD13, and DD11.

Our reservation says, "Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom Category 09B, #GTY " I have no idea what that means, other than we have a room and beds to sleep in. :woohoo:

We also have second seating for dinner. Again, IDK what that means. I talked to someone at a party yesterday that said that we would want to be careful not to miss fireworks. What night are fireworks?

Any guidance/help would be greatly appreciated. I am so excited!

Piglet and Potatohead --

We decided not to get off the boat in Nassau because there is so much fun to do -- you might enjoy a quick trip to the new Straw Market just to say you got off the boat.

And my kids said they didn't want to do the Stingray adventure.

Instead my hubby and I are going to Spurge and do REMY...not normally our type of restaurant, but it seems worth it. :)

Welcome Wellmansteak! :welcome:

9B GTY means you will get at least a 9B cabin with a window on Deck 2. Possibly will be upgraded to something "nicer." I think you'll be pleased no matter what room you get. Closer to sailing you'll actually be assigned a stateroom number. You'll be able to compare that to a deck plan and see if you got an upgrade.

I think you'll be pleased with later dining. It means you see entertainment at 6:15 and eat at 8:15.

I also have DDs ages 13 and 11. My 11 year old may (if Disney allows it) go to the younger club with a friend. My 13 year old is anxious to know another 13yo going on the cruise. perhaps we can talk via PM.

You'll love your Disney Cruise!

The fireworks are usually on night 3. (Pirates in the Caribbean Night).

i just noticed you have Trussville as your hometown. We live in Birmingham. So close!

I tried to PM you, but I have to have a rating of "10" and I only have "3." I guess that's an excuse to stop lurking on these boards! :surfweb:

We kept the cruise secret from our daughter until Christmas. Until then she thought we were leaving her behind.

What a sweet video!

We had our girls (DD11 & DD13) unwrap something similar on Christmas morning. :santa: I didn't think about an ornament...they unwrapped t-shirts and a piece of paper.

Even on the Disboards you didn't say she was coming! Sneaky! So how old is DD and I'll add her to the list of those DISers sailing with us.

My kids opened a picture made by one of the DISigners that siad they were going on this cruise with friends of ours that moved 2 years ago. We are so excited about spending time with this other family. I've even got an app downloaded on my hand-me-down iphone to track how many days until we leave.

We were not 100% sure when we first booked, but after we decided she was going, we wanted to surprise her. She's 12. The original idea was just the ornament but we weren't sure she'd put 2 and 2 together so we added the card. It had a graphic provided by our TA with Mickey and Minnie on it.

will be in the same club as your daughter.

I've watched your cute video... Please tell me how you trained your daughter to clean up after herself...she's so polite and considerate. Love the "I thought I wasn't going..." line.

We enjoyed this cruise last year and are repeating this year - we're bringing along my inlaws, which will be fun. Last year we did not book any excursions, and the boys (twins now age 13) and I did not get off in Nassau. I used to go to the Caribbean for business (yeah, you're really feeling sorry for me, aren't you?!?) and let's just say Nassau isn't my first choice. With so much to do onboard, we decided to enjoy the ship for the day instead. My DH and one of the boys did rent bikes on Castaway Cay (did not book ahead, BTW) and they had lots of fun.

This year, I did book 2 excursions. In Nassau, I booked the "Seaworld Semi-Submarine" for a little more exploring ocean life, then we'll go for a little walk in Nassau just so the boys can see a totally different looking city (we live in Toronto, and our visits to the US don't exactly count as visiting a "foreign" country!). I hope it's good. For Castaway Cay, I booked the stingray activity. The boys were intrigued by this last year once they saw it, but we couldn't book same day - no availability.

As the boys are twins, they always have company, and they didn't take to the kids club at all. We never spend enough time together as a family, so that was OK with us, but we did think they might enjoy meeting other kids. One of our boys has a physical disability and we had mobility issues (elevator access etc) on our first visit to the club. I think that put him off, made him feel a bit unwelcome, although the CMs were trying to put him at ease. Also, they both have some medical issues (born extremely prematurely) and until recently haven't stayed up really late. I think you really, really need to get your kids to spend time in the tween club on the first night to help them "connect" with the club. We weren't prepared to run the risk of illness by having them up past 11:00 (and then some?) to participate in the first night, so they missed out on that and never really caught up. Not DCL's fault at all. We'll see how it goes this year, but I've really lowered my expectations for any time they'll spend in the club, and hope to do more aquaduck, minigolf, family entertainment etc.

Oh and I promise to be clearer with the boys that I will not fund anything but the first bingo cards of the trip...they can pay with their spending money...and if they DO win (as they did last year!!!), the first thing they must do with their winnings is pay me back for the cards! They won $250!!!

what part of birmingham?

DH encouraged me to book the dolphin encounter, which I feel sure that we would enjoy. However, I am still not convinced. Part of me really thinks that we should just stay on the boat and the other part says when will we really be back in the Bahamas?? Heard so many things about Nassau not being safe that I really don't want to get off the boat unless we are doing an excursion. DH has always wanted to do Discovery Cove and I have heard that it is great. Maybe I can convince him to do that on another Orlando trip :).

twinmum thanks for the info and yes, I do feel sorry for you :) good advice for getting the kids into the kids clubs on the first night.

GatorandNole we are on deck 10 also!!

We live in Vestavia.

I hear good things about the Dolphin Encounter..are you doing Blue Lagoon or Atlantis? Blue Lagoon would save you money over Discovery Cove...not so sure that's the case with Atlantis.

We watched the movie Dolphin Tale this week and I was itching to get in the water with "Winter" I bet it would be fun to do the Dolphin Encounter!

winning $250 is great...but I understand trying to make clear that if they get addicted to the BINGO, they are paying for the cards!

Can we make it to 6 pages....!!!...Anyone have WDW pre or post cruise plans? My dd and I are flying down Thursday before, we will be at POP - heading to MK on Friday - going to BBB that morning then lunch at Cindy's castle....We can't wait! The BBB & lunch are a surprise to her.

67 days until the Dream!!:dance3:

Anyone here checking for Palo openings? We booked dinner for DH and me as soon as we could, but couldn't get my inlaws booked with us as they are new DCL cruisers. Once their window opened, I got them a table for 2 but could only get them a ressie for 8:30 when ours is at 7:30. I'm hoping we can either catch an opening before we cruise or move them to 7:30 once we board.

Last year, at some point leading into the cruise (maybe 4-6 weeks before?) a bunch of Palo ressies became available. I got one because someone on the DIS posted about finding them (we're good at sharing here, aren't we?!?). I'll be checking for Palo myself and will let you know, but it'd be great to know that others are also checking and will fill us in (once you make your own ressie, of course!).

P.S. We hit page 6!

Hi! I posted before, but not sure I ever included our info. We're all set to enjoy our 2nd Dream cruise - our family group will include me, DH, and twin DS boys age 13. One of our boys has cerebral palsy and will be using his walker/wheelchair (I mention it because it makes us easy to spot!). We have an accessible Deluxe Family Oceanview with Verandah on deck 8. This year, DH's parents will also be joining us - they have cruised before, a few times on NCL, but never on DCL. We're looking forward to it!

:welcome: twinmum and stoneydisneycruiser!

glad to have you join the thread.

twinmum. Keep checking on palo. reservations do come available. also, you might call the technical folks (when you call disney and they give you the option of "having difficulty with our website, please press 1." i think the website was acting strange at the 90 day mark.pirate:
