March 15-22, 2008 Eastern - Way-Way Early Check In

I didn't think the seas were supposed to be that rough in March. Were you on an Eastern or Western last year?

We're staying deck 5, but toward the front (in a SPH). Do we need more than the bonine since our family is prone to motion sickness and this is our first cruise?

I know you posted a while ago, but I thought I'd mention that I'm quite prone to motion sickness (which stinks, because I used to like roller coasters, and it's tough to be a passenger in a car unless I take meds). Though for some reason, it's not as bad on airplanes... usually. I went on a Disney cruise... about 3 years ago and IIRC the seas went up to somewhere around 16 feet at one point - enough that you definitely felt it.

I took the "new" "less drowsy" Dramamine (I believe that's bonine) before I got on the bus to get to the ship... very glad I did, btw. I had *no* problem on board. In fact it was rather an odd feeling. I've been on "head boats" and know what starts to make me feel ill (hey, it's not always been such a problem)... and it was very odd that my brain and body were registering motion that it *knew* should make it nauseous... but I didn't feel queasy *at all*. I spent my day at sea, and a couple of the evenings periodically recognizing that fact and trying to adjust to just how odd the combination was LOL.

If bonine works for you normally, it should do you for the cruise.

My entire gang is so excited about the cruise. It's all we talk about these days.

Nancy---we will be arriving at the Radisson on Friday at 9pm so will not be able to meet up earlier. My husband set up a 10am pickup shuttle time Sat so the 11am kids meet wiil work for us.

I love the idea of decorating the doors-hopefully I can get my act together and do it.

Also, I think my kids would love to be involved in the DIStag-sounds like fun.

So my "To Do List"---make magnetic decorations for the door
purchase green beads
LOSE WEIGHT so I can enjoy the food!

Julie

The group is growing - GREAT! The 11:00 meet for the kids sounds great. My kids are getting excited.

The 3:00 meet sounds good too.

I have been working on door magnets. We have 3 cabin doors, so my plan is to have each one with a different theme. I got inexpensive dry erase boards so we can keep up with each other. I think I'm going to have a princess door, a pirate door and a Mickey door.

The tag idea seems like fun also.

We have the late dinner seating. We have not booked any excursions yet. I think we may explore on our own.

Lisa

We've got early seating. Works much better for us since we usually eat early at home.

Just a common-sense recommendation - especially with the kids - it's a good idea to place the board that you keep track of who's where inside your cabin, rather than on the outside of the door. (sorry, not only mom, but teacher :-)

We'll have some white space where we don't mind people leaving messages on our magnet (at least a main one) on the door - but the board (might end up being a notebook) for who's gone where will be inside. It's a pretty safe ship, or has been in the past, but there are *lots* of folks on board.

*g* I *might* put "Cozit" on the door... or I might just tell you all what to look for... depends on whether DD9 figures out the magnet decoration(s) before last moment or not...

Welcome Carol - I'm glad you're joining us! :welcome:

Our travelers for this cruise includes me, Nancy, DH Don, and two DD's (10 & 5 at cruise time).

This is our second disney cruise - the first being a western - so I'm in the same "boat" you are with excursions. We're also thinking about just one excursion and we'll probably just wing it on the other island and do beach time at CC.

BTW, my dd (10) is looking for an e-pal - do you think your dd (10) would be interested? She emailed with several other girls before our last cruise and would love to do it again.
Ooooh! Can I be her penpal, too?! I just love emailing people around my age, especialy when they like Disney. Nobody around here really does  I just turned 13 a few weeks ago, but I don't act like anyone else at my school, lol.

I think we're going to stay close to the ship, probably do a little (or a lot of)
shopping. I've heard that a good time to be on the ship is when it's docked. I would like to get some snorkeling in and have my family try it. I think we'll take our own snorkel gear. Do any of you have any teens who have done the teen excursion on Castaway Cay? This sounds like fun. From the looks of it it looks like we have quite a few 10 year olds sailing. If any kids are interested in e-mailing my 10 yo daughter, let me know.

Lisa
I'm a teen! And I want to email your dd :) I need some DISPenpals!
No teens yet, sorry. DD10 did do a scavenger hunt on CC - and she loved it!

I'll send you a PM with DD's info - she'd love another to virtually meet another 10 year old girl!

Nancy
I'm a teen! hehe. But, I just love emailing girls my age. Can we email eachother? I think that'd be fun!

I'm 13-ish! We're about to book, too! So, can I participate in the kid's meet?

Of course. The idea is to let some of the "kids" meet each other before boarding... and the adults as well. There's a list of folks on this list who will be there on the first page of this discussion thread.

Of course it'd be even better if you dragged your folks along as well :-)

Of course I'll drag them along ;) When are we meeting? And I was wondering... I don't feel comfortable in the 13-17 atmosphere, so is there anyway that the cruise line would let me go to the 8-12 year old thing? I'm not mature at all, lol. Oh and, what dining is everyone doing... Second or first?

First. Not new to the board, my mom(LisbaBi) has already posted.

Second and more importantly. Not sure if DCL will allow you to go down to the 8-12 age group, but there is a 10-14 age group.
Also given that the cruise falls during spring break, I am sure there will be a lot of 13 year olds in the stack. Ill be 17 and up there all the time.
I am not sure if you are allowed to be apart of both Ocean quest and The Stack though.

I hope they let you be part of both. I really don't feel comfortable, though. Older kids don't like me! :rotfl:

Sorry. Disney only ever allows a change in the age groups if the child is within a month of the age change for groups - with the *rare* change for slighty more than that *if* there is a sibling in the other group.

I've been told that your best bet is to go to the teens' club the first night, to start to get to know folks there, as it's easiest at that time... and that there are *always* at least *some* 13-14yos who are in the same boat as you... I know I've heard that there have been problems in the past with the younger vs. older teen differences, but I've also heard that they've finally gotten a clue and have gotten a bit better at everyone finding a niche. If you've any problems, the cast members are generally *great* at helping out and trying to match people to each other as well as activities.

And of course, you're *never* trapped there (as long as your folks don't insist to you), so you can always check out other parts of the ship... and I saw several roaming groups of both middle school and high school aged kids numerous time on the 4-night trip we took a few years ago.

They are very good in helping teens find people to hang out with. Multiple times I have seen them walk up to a group of teens that are already together and introduce a new person.

Also about her worries of being with the older teens. We typically don't like hanging out with the younger ones. For instance on my last cruise there was a group of us(about 10-12 17yr olds) together, and a mob(way to many to count 13-16yr olds). For the most part every breaks down into groups based on ages it seems, unless there are only a few teens on the cruise, but that shouldn't be happening since it will be spring break.

Is it cheaper to book through the DIS's thing? It's WAY too expensive to book through Disney. I mean DISBoards.. Like the Dreams Unlimited Travel. If I can find it for less than our original price, we can go! :woohoo:

julie t - sorry you won't be getting in until late on Friday night. We're going to sign up for the 10am shuttle as well - perhaps we'll be on the same one! If not, we'll definitely catch up in the terminal.

We've got early dining - I'm hoping for PLA!

We'd be up for DISTag too. We've got a couple of things for our door already, and will probably make something new for this trip.

Nancy

Look at mousesavers.com for suggestions. I booked through Disney, myself.

Don't you agree it was a bit expensive though? We only have 3 people and it was $8,000 something!

Thanks for the suggestion, by the way.
