Welcome kconnor!

I have added you to the list for our second FE group, on the first page of this thread.

If this your first trip on the Magic?

Hi. We're doing our first Disney cruise for spring break. We'll be on the Magic. My son has never done a cruise before, the last time my DH & I were on a cruise was our honeymoon 13 years ago. We're paid in full, checked in and really ready to leave winter behind!

I am curious. I googled fish extenders, and understand it is basically a door decoration, but what is a FE group?

It was the coldest day today so far this winter, so I spent all my free time looking into things for our cruise. I did our online check in as a way to help get through the sub-zero temperatures. I checked out all the online menus and read reviews of our excursions.

Hi,

The FE is more than a decoration ... it's usually a panel with pockets in which your fellow group members leave little cruise presents! Think Christmas stocking, but a la Mickey!

Our FE is a panel with two pockets -- one for the parents, and another for our daughter. We have a nice Mickey appliqué at the top. I made another one for my brother's family with Tinkerbell.

Each member of the FE group agrees to bring a small gift for each of the other members. It's so much fun to come back to your room to see what kinds of goodies your fellow cruisers have delivered! Over the years we have received magnets, CDs with wonderful cruising music (a great way to get through these tough winter evenings), notebooks, highlighters, coasters, jewellery and more.

It is a lot of work to prepare, but it can be fun too. At present, our first FE group is complete and the second group has two members, looking for more!

Stay warm all of you caught in this great deep freeze!

I am excited to finally figure out how to navigate this site to find our group! This is our families first Disney cruise. We frequent the world but wanted our kids older before cruising. It is myself, DH, DD 7 and DD 4.

We are taking this trip to celebrate our 10th anniversary :)

Welcome bearybear and alsynder79! So happy you have found us and joined us! :) I cant believe its just over two months away! How is everyone's planning coming? Did everyone get their excursions booked? How about pre and post trip plans? I would love to hear what everyone is up to! :)

We fly in day before and will stay at the Hyatt for the night and take the bus to port in the morning. Kids are excited about staying there! For excursions I changed my original plans... we are doing a trolley tour in key west on our own. We mostly want to see southernmost point, maybe the fort and get some key lime pie. For grand cayman we are doing the day at Botswain turtle farm and park. For Cozumel my 3 yr old and I are doing the dolphin encounter and DH and the older three are doing the push pull and swim at Chakanaab park. Im excited about all our options. Post cruise we were supposed to stay with family a night but they will no longer be home! So we are staying in a hotel in daytona beach on the beach. Im not sure what we are going to do yet, maybe play mini golf, check out the marine center and beach? It will depend on weather. We fly out of daytona the next morning.

Stay warm everyone! I think I finally have my family healthy!

We are also @ the Hyatt the night before. Our flight does not get in until 11:30pm. And doing the same excursion in Cozumel. We are doing Rum Point Beach in Grand Cayman.
My DS is 6 and DD 8

We fly in the Friday before the cruise, but haven't booked a hotel yet. We're still not 100% sure what we want to do before the cruise.

We've booked excursions at Cozumel and Grand Cayman. My DH & I cruised a similar itinerary for our honeymoon a long time ago, and enjoyed it.

We are driving in from S. Louis on Friday and staying two nights at Animal Kingdom Lodge before the cruise. We are going to the world on Saturday 3/14.

After we are driving home.

We chose: trolley and museum tour in key west
Xcaret park for Cozumel
Dolphin swim and turtle farm in grand caymen
Nothing for castaway

I am second guessing xcaret. Pics look awesome but I am not hearing of a lot of people picking this excursion. Anyone heard anything about it?

alsynder- I have heard xcaret is great except for the fact that I believe its on the mainland and the travel time is pretty long and potentially rough waters. Lots of sea sickness reports.

Welcome disneywells!! Papertraveller should be be along soon and she can get you signed up for FE!

Thanks for the welcome Madzac!
We are so excited! I was suppose the surprise the kids with the trip on valentines day though I told them tonight. We have spent dinner talking about the trip. I just could not wait to tell them.
I have also recruited help to make our fish ender. Can't wait!

We are so excited about our first disney cruise. We are wanting to join in on the fun of fish ending. Would love some help on how to participate.

The Fish Extender Group is a fun way to greet your fellow travelers and share some fun during the cruise. As papertraveller explained, you join a group and bring something for everyone. They in turn bring something for you. At some point during the cruise, you deliver your items to the staterooms in your group and they will deliver to your room. A final list of participants is usually provided shortly before the cruise. It's simple, fun, and brings a smile to everyone's faces. Last year, we brought a bunch of green items and distributed them the morning of St. Patrick's Day. Green buttons, magnets, stickers, etc., so everyone could avoid being pinched. Please pay attention to the ages of your fellow FE Group participants, you don't want to give a 2-year-old the same thing as a teenager!

This is a photo of our Fish Extender hanging outside our stateroom during our cruise last year. We opted for 1 pocket for each person, everyone got to pick their icon.

We had our Fish Extender made by someone who is far more creative (and talented) than the DW or I are. You can search the web for people who will make you extenders. We got ours on Etsy from a WONDERFUL seller who went out of her way to get ours made in time for the cruise. If you PM me, I will gladly share the name of the person we used - she was amazing. I do not recommend waiting until the last minute - SHOP NOW if you're having someone else make yours. However, it can be a simple as a totebag. Last year, one family in our FE Group simply hung a plastic shopping back from their Fish with some Frozen stickers on it. It didn't matter to anyone, everyone loved that their kids made it themselves.

It is always a fun surprise to get back to your room and discover that one of your fellow FE Group members left you a special item or treat. The creativity that goes into the FE items is unbelievable. We are always blown away by what our fellow passengers come up with. One of our favorite items to give (and receive) are decorations for the stateroom doors. By the end of our cruise last year, our door looked like this:

Many of those magnets came from people in our FE Group. We ended up hanging a piece of thin sheet metal up in our laundry room to display all of the wonderful magnets we've received on our cruises.

Participating in a FE Group makes every day a surprise. Plus, the kids love hunting for each room when we're out making our deliveries.

At home we keep our fish extender hanging up in the laundry room. We pass it every day on our way to and from the garage. Plus, you never know when a Disney gift card might appear in one of the pockets!!! :yay:

Hi, and welcome to a fellow Canadian! You'll see we're a friendly and cheerful group over here.

Happy to set you up in Fish Extender list number 2 -- just post the composition of your travel family, including the ages and genders of the kids, plus your stateroom. I'll have you posted on the first page of this thread.

I don't blame you for spilling the beans early. It's still a surprise for the kids, and now you can spend some time exploring videos of the ship and the excursions. This will be our fourth trip in the SAME stateroom on the Magic. If you have kids in the Edge, you'll see our decorated door just around the corner on deck two!

I missed posting yesterday, to mark nine weeks until we cruise! I was up late on Saturday night booking FastPasses for our pre-cruise stay.

We are DVC members and will be at Bay Lake Tower. We're coming in on Thursday, and spending two days at Magic Kingdom with my brother and family. They're going to hit Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom before we arrive.

The two-day extravaganza will include a visit to Bibbidy Bobbidy, then lunch with Cinderella, some time with Belle and a swing by the Seven Dwarfs. Day Two we'll hit the classic mountains.

We didn't try to catch Anna and Elsa since we're hoping to get the princess meet and greet tickets when we board the ship. After that, the dads will definitely need beer tasting tickets too! Fingers crossed!

Disneywells- what did the kids think? How exciting!!! I am so in awe of all of you who are able to keep this a secret. Planning is so much fun I would go CRAZY waiting!!! I see you have a DD13 who will be on board? I do too! If your DD has any interest in emailing prior to the cruise with my DD, shoot me an email tln1@mchsi.com and we can hook them up. This is our second cruise. While she really enjoyed the first cruise immensly she wishes she had met a friend to get to know in Edge. Lilthatsme also has two edge age girls.
