March 15, 2015 MAGIC Cruise!! :)

I am in the FE group - my daughter has some issues with red food colouring- so we try to avoid it - but she also understands that sometimes she gets things with red food colouring and either doesn't eat it or trades it with her sister. She is the 12 year old.

Hi, I'm Kelly! Myself and my husband will be cruising with our 8 (daughter) and 6 (son) year old. I'm excited connect and figure out what I'm doing.. Feeling kind of lost and nervous!
1st Disney cruise booked for our 10 year anniversary!

litthatsme- I already ordered some FE stuff and Im afraid there is some red dye! Im sorry! Hopefully she can switch red things with her sister! So glad you are definitely in with us though! When will you tell the girls?

kellydean- welcome! So happy to have you join us! Your kids are such great ages for a disney cruise and will have a blast!!! This will be our second cruise and the first one was truly the best family time we have ever had! Cant wait! Hopefully the chatter here will increase as we get closer!

The first couple days of the first western cruise navigators were posted... here is hoping they post the rest! Anxious to see what all we have to look forward to! What I gathered so far from what was posted in case you all didnt see it. Here is dress code, menu and show for each night.

Day one- cruise casual, restaurant menu, Let the magic begin show
Day two (key west)- cruise casual, restaurant menu, variety act
Day three (at sea)- formal, restaurant menu, twice charmed

Welcome Aboard! You'll have a marvellous time -- ask any questions you wish. There are lots of knowledgable, very friendly people here!

We were just discussing the excursions at breakfast Saturday morning. I think we're planning on swimming with the dolphins in Grand Cayman, Cozumel is a toss up between the Twister Boat/Isla de Pasion adventure we absolutely loved last year and some other, new excursion, while Key West is total mystery. Any recommendations for a good Key West excursion? Keep in mind the kids will be 15 and 11 at the time of sailing.

I'm also wondering about Key West, but I can tell you that in Cozumel my husband and I just loved doing the America's Cup Challenge 12-metre Yacht Race the last time we were there. We may sign up to do it again this time. I would think your kids would really enjoy it... hands-on sailing. Everybody gets something to do on the boat.

I paid off our cruise yesterday and I'm praying we don't have to cancel. My youngest is having some complications with his heart disease. We are hoping to get it all taken care of with medication. But his cardiologist wants to wait until the end of January to decide whether or not he wants him to leave the country! Luckily we do have trip insurance and we double checked with it and they will refund us in full if we have to cancel. We also have a cruise planned end of May. After that we will be platinum and that is a HUGE goal of mine. My oldest is graduating college in May so these will be the last school vacations he gets! Pray we don't have to cancel- it will break our hearts for so many reasons!

oklamomof4boys- you are in my thoughts and prayers! I so hope eveything is ok with your son first and foremost and second that you dont have to cancel! Thinking of you!!! :)

In Key West we didnt see any disney excursions that grabbed us. I got tickets for one of the trolleys, not the conch train one but another one as kids were free. So we plan to do that, visit southernmost point, check out mallory square and get some key lime pie! :)

Madzac,
Okay, maybe I'm just blind again (My previous post about the FE group should provide plenty of evidence of my cluelessness! :badpc:), but I'm not seeing links to the menus. Can you point me in the right direction?

Thanks! :thumbsup2

There are some menus on the disney cruise line blog website. They arent all up to date though. I havent been able to find anything better.

My aunt messaged me tonight that they are now going to be out of the country in March! I am so disappointed as we had been planning for a year and a half that we would stay with them a night after we get off the cruise. :sad2: So now we have to figure out what to do for that Sunday. Since we thought we would be staying in Ormond Beach, we are flying out of Daytona Beach instead of MCO. If I had known she would not be home I would have booked us out of MCO and we could have had more options for the day. I think we might stay in Daytona Beach for the night, not sure exactly what we will do. Anyone have any thoughts? I suppose we could drive to Orlando and back, it just seems like extra work, I dont know! Disney and Universal are out as its just too expensive for six of us for one day tickets only.

Hi all,

Since we were originally booked for this cruise, I thought I'd check in and let you know how our cruise went in case it helps anyone.

We just got off the Magic on Sunday Nov.16th.
This cruise was supposed to be Cozumel, Grand Cayman, Falmouth Jamaica, and Castaway Cay. After 2 attempts, we did not dock in Castaway Cay and had a sea day instead. We also couldn't tender in Georgetown, but did tender in Spotts Bay. Disney gave us complementary passes for a bus in between, but we didn't use them as our tour picked us up and dropped us off at the tender dock. We didn't plan on shopping in Georgetown anyway.

My observations:

1. This was our 2nd cruise, with our first being on the Fantasy (Eastern Caribbean). I thought I might be disappointed with the Magic because it was older and didn't have things like the mid-ship detective agency, virtual port holes, etc, but it did NOT disappoint at all!
Even though I was told the ship was full at check-in, it never seemed as crowded as on the Fantasy. We never had a problem finding a spot at the pools to swim or watch funnel vision. Cabanas (breakfast/lunch) was busy, but we always found a table (for 5) with little effort.
I also like the fact that walking from Aft to Forward wasn't as much of a journey as it is on the bigger ships.
Even though there are less laundry rooms, we never really had a problem finding an available machine. The only day it was busy was the morning of the last sea day, but it cleared up by afternoon.

2. In Grand Cayman we did the Disney excursion that included an island tour (quick stop in "Hell" and a wonderful experience at the turtle farm) and also snorkel at Stingray city. What an amazing experience!
Stingray City: It was $30 cash to buy the photos (e-mailed to you). I don't have a waterproof camera, so the photos I took from the boat did not compare.
Turtle farm: The kids all got into a pool with some of the smaller turtles, got to hold them, and bigger ones in other tanks. The guide got us into the park, gave us an introductory talk, and then let us have 30 minutes to explore as we wished. It was the perfect amount of time.

3. In Jamaica, we did the "Green Grotto Caves" tour. There are mosquito's and bug repellant is recommended, but we didn't know ahead of time. Our tour guide there was so amazing with the kids, got them to go off together with a flashlight and really tried to both calm them yet keep them having a fun time.
Afterwards, we went to Chukka's private beach for an hour which included Jerk Chicken lunch. Such a beautiful beach with warm clear water. Wished we had more time there, but 1 hour was ok. Lots of dogs hanging around, but none bothered us.

4. We did not get off the ship at Cozumel, so I can't comment on that port. We did not get to get off at Castaway Cay, so I can't comment on that either.

5. It can be chilly in the theatres, so you may want to bring a sweater if you get cold easily. The "Dreams" show is outstanding.
Many times I saw lots of small kids dancing at the "Promenade lounge" area, so cute and unexpected.
Wash your children's hands on the way OUT of the kids clubs to help reduce the chances of catching something. We didn't do this and I think it may have made a difference in our kids getting sick on our last full day. We had to use hand wipes on our way in to all restaurants and to handle the tongs at Cabanas. On our last full day, in the afternoon, they would not let us self-serve the ice cream machines anymore, so I'm not sure if it was a sign that something was going around.

6. I was also worried about the plumbing on the ship since the drydock. We did not experience any issues in our cabins, but there was a strange odour in the hallway Deck 2 Aft portside. I also overheard staff calling for maintenance for toilet overflowing in at least 2 rooms elsewhere. I don't know if they flushed inappropriate items or if it was ship plumbing.

7. We had 2 minor maintenance issues with our rooms, probably due to age of the ship. They fixed both super quick. One of our rooms creaked a lot in rougher seas, but it didn't seem to affect our sleep. We all slept well, just not enough since we never went to bed before midnight. We made the most of our time :)

In closing, I want to say that we had an absolutely great time! I am sure you will enjoy your cruise too.

One more thing:

Brunch at Palo was amazing! I have Celiac and must eat gluten-free, so that was the highlight of my eating experience. The chef there made me gluten free versions of the pizza and pasta and was super nice.

So much better than the GF pizza at Pinocchio's and the GF pasta in the main dining rooms.

Maria, thank you so much for taking the time to stop in and share your experiences! Thats wonderful! I am glad you had such a good time and that you all loved the Magic! Makes me all the more excited!! :)

Oh but how disappointing about CC! I would have been so bummed too :( We are so looking forward to going back there and checking out some of the many things we missed!

oklamomof4boys, please know we are keeping your family in our prayers and hope your dear son comes through just fine, and ready to go on the cruise.

Maria, thank you so much for sharing your Magic trip report. Glad you had a great time, and as MadZac says, you've just whet our appetites to get moving NOW!

Finally, a note about the FE list. I know that some people have started to prepare their gifts. If you are changing your arrangements, jumping ship, or decide not to participate, please post here to let me know as soon as you make the decision.

Also, if you are a lurker who is reading and just not posting until the cruise gets closer, please confirm that you're still interested. I imagine we will see some changes as the paid-in-full date approaches.

I have already started sorting my treasures. I create a large ziploc bag for each stateroom, and place the items in each bag as I find them. I won't be starting my crafty pieces until January, I think.

And finally, Happy Thanksgiving to all of our American cruise friends! DH is a diehard (long-suffering) Detroit Lions fan. He won't be having turkey tomorrow, but he'll be watching the game!

Morning all,

I just booked our port excursions and did online check-in. The countdown tells me 104 days to go!

I was too lazy to stay up until midnight to do the booking, so just finished it now. Got everything -- Tuesday Palo brunch, Deluxe Stingray City in Grand Cayman and Fury Catamaran in Cozumel. Port arrival time of 11 to 11:30.

I checked cabanas at Castaway Cay -- three adult ones left at Serenity Beach, that's it!

Price of $549 is a bit too much for us, not to mention the difference on the exchange rate.

Now I am super excited!

Congrats on getting everything you were hoping for! Your excursion choices look great too! I think the Fury looks like a blast... wish the minimum age wasnt 5!

Two more weeks for us silver folks!

How is everyone? Happy December!

Two more weeks for us silver folks!

This will be our last cruise as Silver, we can't wait to be Gold and take advantage of the earlier check in & booking date! I'm ready for the 12:01am check in on the 15th - it's on my calendar with a big reminder.

We're still up in the air on our excursions for Cozumel. Last year we had the best time with the Twister Boat to Passion Island, but the boy, DS (11), says that swimming in the ocean is itchy, so he doesn't want to do anything that involves swimming. We're going to talk to his doctor about some sort of spray or cream that will eliminate the itchiness. Does anyone have any home grown remedies we can try, just in case? Last time we were on the Magic, some fellow cruisers had a homemade spray that my son tried and had success with. Unfortunately that recipe has gotten lost in the chaos of a move, remodel, and general life since that trip. Hopefully the doctor will have something, but I like having a backup just to be safe.

Also, is there a way I can find out if a server from a past cruise is still on the ship? We had the best server the last time we were on the Magic and we'd love to have her again if at all possible. I'm going to call DCL to ask. If anyone has experience with this, I'd love to get your insight.

Lastly, is it too early to get kids talking? We joined our Meetup Group at the very last minute last year & my kids had about 1 week to get to know other kids. Am I jumping the gun thinking about it now?

It's getting so close!!!!

Our check in is getting so close! (Silver) Trying to look at excursions and find something that we can all agree on is the hard part.

We decided since we're in a time zone 3 hours behind FL that we're going to switch to late seating…that will mean we can utilize dine and play and all the fun evening activities we haven't tried before.

I checked in a couple of days ago also. I am really wanting a cabana on the family beach- unfortunately my youngest is under 18. If anyone has one and is going to cancel, could you please let me know before you do it?
