March 14, '10 "Wonder"ful cruise!!

I got my seabands at CVS and they have a children's version. I got those for my kids.

The room assignments are for those with guaranteed rooms instead of a room number. DCL may upgrade your existing room and then yes it would change. We are in connecting Cat 9's and chose our rooms so I am not expecting anything but it would be nice!!!!!

We had guaranteed 12's on our last cruise and were upgraded to side by side 9's, a very nice surprise indeed!!

I would say possible it will change but not probable.

FISH EXTENDER EXCHANGE LIST! If you are interestesd in participating in a Fish Extender exchange, please PM me with the names of those in your cabin and ages of your children. I'd like to get the list going so that we know how many to prepare for.
If you are not familiar with the concept, here is a thread that explains a bit of the concept:

http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=33184281&postcount=2

My understanding is the more people that participate, the greater fun it becomes! Let us all sprinkle pixie dust on your trip - join in the fun!

Yes, I love to sew and have an embroidery machine that I really enjoy using. I'm in the process of making my list of "must dos" for our cruise. I need to finish up the shirts, I plan to make our family a fish extender and I want to make my children (at least my daughter, my son may not be interested) a pillowcase to be signed by the characters on board
I know I'm going to make a few things for my daughter to wear. Not sure what else yet.

I just got an embroidery machine in November. I love all the possibilities of what I can do. The problem is figuring out what to do next and what to wait on. I made a Jedi Mickey shirt for one of my boys during the holidays, which turned out really well. I saw some designs of a pirate Mickey that I want to download to make shirts for the cruise. And I want to make pillowcases for signatures as well. My list keeps growing!

Door magnets.....?? Anyone else making them?
I was going to print them on magnetic paper OR should I just laminate them at my school and then buy magnetic tape(I would label my room # on back in case they get knocked)
Should I do it the that way or would the magnetic sheets be best. They are expensive here.
If shorts are okay for dining that will be better for my son. DD doesn't care I think she would rather wear a sun dress anyhow. DH I think I will cut back his pants to only one pair of Dockers-style now for the trip.Got the green light today from my Dad that he will for sure drive down my suitcase:thumbsup2 Yipee now we can fly down with carry-ons only. No cost to check the luggage, no weight restriction and No worries about my suitcase being lost or delayed too is a bonus. (although this has only happened one time to me) BTW, my Dad is not going on DCL but he and my Mom are staying in a condo at Cocoa Beach for the month of March. I told them they will have to go to Jetty Park to wave and watch the ship pass.

Happy New Year, Everyone!!!

I only have my photopass pictures to do and then I can give my FULL attention to the Disney Cruise!:woohoo: I am starting to get really excited!

Our trip to Disneyworld was wonderful. We arrived on Christmas day and left on New Year's Day. We stayed at the Bay Lake Tower, which was great! Everyone had their own bed to sleep in and the boys doubled up. They have 3bathrooms in their 2 bedroom units, so the girls were excited to have their own bathrooms to get ready in and I was excited that I could just close the door and not have to look at the mess. We were able to watch fireworks from our balcony, which came in handy on New Year's Eve. We were at Epcot and decided to leave because it was getting everyone frustrated trying to keep 7 of us all together. We all decided that we wanted to go back to the hotel and watch the firework from there. We could actually see Epcot, Hollywood Studio's and Magic Kingdom's fireworks from where we were. I have NEVER saw firework like that before. They were amazing!! But enough about that trip, it's cruise talk time.

I will be looking for those sea bands, too, just in case. I read that site that you put up, Shannon, and I learned that you have to start taking the Bonine the night before. I didn't realize that. It's a shame that it doesn't work as good if you just take it if you start feeling sick. I would like to know for sure if my daughter actually gets sea sick or if it's just in her mind. Since we only have 4 days, I think I will make her take the Bonine before hand and throughout this cruise. I don't want it to be ruined by not feeling good.

Those vacuum bags work great, but I suggest the roll up bags. I bought the vacuum bags first, then realized that we had to come home and I wouldn't have a vacuum with me. The roll up bags work great, too. But just remember that no matter how much room you make it still weighs the same. For carry-ons this is no problem, but for those checked bags, it might be. The first time I used them I was so excited that I had ALL this room left, but then my husband reminded me that it still weighs the same not matter how you pack it. Bummer!
I am going to try to get us all in carry-ons. It will be challenging, but worth a try.

Paragd911 - So nice to see Disney taking care of you guys. I wish the government would do the same. I glad that you will be able to enjoy Disney after your cruise, too. This way it won't be so sad when the cruise is over.

Hello Everyone!

Just a little over 2 months now til we sail, YAH! My name is Carrie, DH is Alex and we have two kids Juliana who is 2 and Lucas who will turn 6 on March 14th. This is our first Disney Cruise and first cruise for the kids. We are from Oklahoma and are also on Springbreak. I expect to meet lots of Texans on this cruise. Is the whole state on spring break at the same time?

DH and I are also celebrating our 10 year anniversary this cruise and I managed to get a Palo Reservation. I am really excited to have a nice meal without the children.

So can you veteran March Cruisers tell me what the temps are like, so I can pack appropriately. Are the theaters etc, cold too?

While my daughter will only be a few weeks shy of 3 she refuses to potty train, so we will have to use the nursery. We have her booked there during Palo of course, but are there any other times/events we might want to attend as adults and would need to reserve the nursery for her?

We are also staying 3 nights post cruise, I just got that booked a couple days ago and managed to get a great deal with the new codes for AKL Club Level. I decided since this is our anniversary trip, we were going to splurge.

Anyway just wanted to say hello and introduce myself.

Carrie

Welcome Carrie.
Congrats on your upcoming Anniversary. What a nice way to celebrate!! You will love Animal Kingdom Lodge.
I cannot speak to the question about cruise weather in March as this is my First DCL as well. Many times to WDW in March however.
Happy Planning.
This thread has been awesome for planning/?s and just a chance to share our excitement together. :cool1:
Today was my first day back to work :teacher:since the Christmas break--UGH. But, I feel swamped already so this will help to pass the time I suppose. We have a superintendent visit next Monday. So, wish me luck. We all have to get together a bunch of paperwork for that as per our principal's request. I am not too stressed however because I have been doing everything that we are asked to produce.
The Dollar is at 96 cents today for the exchange so that makes me happy. Hope it stays and continues to climb a bit.:thumbsup2

I'm a disabled Vet from the gulf war. The VA takes "Wonderful" care of me.

Hi Carrie.

The weather can be in 80's to lows 70's This is the 3rd spring break Cruise. (in fact same week too!). I bring my wind breaker.

Welcome Carrie!
What a wonderful way to celebrate your anniversary.
Yes, the whole state of Texas is actually all on spring break that week. This is the first year that the state had to start on the same week, so our breaks are at the same time. I personally like it this way. It was getting hard when the kids had friends and they would start school 2 weeks earlier, and then they would have different spring break time. They just couldn't do anything together. So now we are all on the same schedule.

We went on spring break 7 years ago and I remember Castaway Cay being nice and warm, but the water was a bit chilly. The kids had no problems getting in, but I had to slowly get use to it. I don't remember being cold on the ship, but that was a long time ago. I hope we have good weather on our cruise!

Paragd911 - I am so glad to hear that the VA takes good care of you. I have just heard so many horror stories that there are veterans that can't get the care they need, that I thought we should be taking better care of them. It's good to know that this is not the norm.

This is good to know. I think I'll pack a light jacket just in case!

We have gone the same time the last 2 March's and the first year was warm at Castaway Cay, but last March it was cool, the girls did not even get into the water as it was too cold for them, but it was nice for playing on the beach.

Both years it was cool and windy in Cape Canaveral, so I would not forget a coat.

Hi there fellow cruisers! Just finally posting to the cruise meet thread. This will be our second DCL cruise; prior to this one we did the Western back in Feb '08. We are looking forward to spending a couple of days at WDW, going on the cruise, then a few more nights at WDW. Sounds like a great Spring Break!

My family consists of myself, DW (Tinkermom3 on here), DS15, DS13, and DD8. They had a blast on their first cruise, and are so looking forward to this one!

Looking forward to getting to know you all better over the next couple of months.

I just got the Country Inn and Suites for a $49 bid on Priceline for March 13, total with taxes is $62. I guess that means we will not be staying at WDW, but that is for the best, as it would have been too much after getting up at 4:00 AM for the flight. They stayed up till midnight on New Years Eve and they were out of it for 3 days.

I am trying to figure out if it would be best to keep our Kid Suite, that I have booked, or get 2 regular rooms.

We will be going to Disney for just half the day, then driving down to the hotel. We have annual passes and I just checked their expiration date and they expire March 14th. What luck. So now we HAVE to go!

Im really looking forward to this cruise. its 10 deg here.:sad2:

I have a cpl of folks ask me about Shadow.

Normally I let "little kids" & other folks in wheelchairs pet him. But when its a ship Full of kids i dont let anyone.:sad1:

He works for the "petting" that i give him. If i let everyone pet him, He wont work for me. (sorry)

I'm a trainer of Service dogs.

For FE "gifts" Toys are allways good lol. He cant have "food" of any type. (his tummie)

This is one he got the last time. (And the collar too)
