I think it has to do with the debarkation process and everyone preparing the night before...DCL probably figures that people won't have a chance to pack their fancier stuff if it has to be out by 11 PM.

On the Med cruise the semi formal nights (if I remember correctly there were two but it might have only been one) were on port days too.

Personally I'd love the pirate party to not be on a port day too.

Also keep in mind that Cabo is a short day unfortunately - so you'll have plenty of time to clean up!

Got a good deal on a hotel near LAX for Friday night. Renaissance Hotel for right at $100. We'll be exploring Hollywood and LA Saturday, then moving to the Doubletree in San Pedro for Saturday night.

Lots of little things planning time right now!

I think I have my family talked into going to DL on Friday. Then Saturday taking a tour of Hollywood. I really hate to fly all the way to CA and not see DL!!

Oct 5 is when Southwest is opening up more flights. Be ready!! We have our flight to CA booked, just need the return trip now. I am so excited

We are less than six months away. There will be so many things going on that will make time fly by!!

I am ready for winter....it is so hot here. It is going to be in the 90s for the next 2 weeks!! Bring on fall & winter!!

Great airfare deal out of Nashville on Delta..booked it on their website, each time I went to pay it would say "Fare not Available" but each time I looked it would be there..so called tech support (not RESERVATIoNS..they're not showing this fare at all) and they booked 6 tix for me...the fare was $158 + taxes and it came out to $189 and change...I just looked and now they have it as $165 on some flights... hope this helps someone!

I did have to take the 11:35 pm flight on Sunday...so maybe we'll spend the day at Disneyland?? Any other ideas how to kill 12 hours ????

that's what I love about the boards!! I saved thousands on our first cruise last May b/c someone told me about a fare sale...we were thinking we'd need to cancel the cruise...we've had to buy something that we hadn't planned on for 5 years (land from a neighbor who had a tragedy hit them) so it made it tough..I told dh unless I found an incredible airfare deal it was cancelled, then that pops up!!! We even got my niece a ff mile ticket and she's able to get on our same flight out to LAX from Boston, it'll be a blast..now I just need to find hotel deals!

So glad you are going Tara. I still can't believe we live so close and haven't met up. We are so busy right now with Cross Country. The girls have a meet every Saturday until the 13th of December. We are going to a meet in Memphis this Saturday.

I am hoping that we can get a flight really close to 12 (noon) on the 20th. My kids have to be back at school on Monday. They will have already missed two days. I told them it didn't matter what time we got home, they would have to be at school on Monday. I can't wait till Oct 5th when SW opens up more flights!!

Aww! My parents live in Collierville! My niece will have to miss that Monday b/c we don't get in to Nashville until 8am on Monday, ooohhh late night flight! So my sister-n-law is driving up from Memphis to get her at the airport, they can only miss 3 days or they'll have to take senior exams!

We are going to be in Germantown...so close to Collierville!!

I think both of my girls will have to take exams because they will miss two days....but I don't care. It is good for them to take the exams, they need to know how so when they get to college it won't be a new thing for them.

I am taking oldest dd to look at The University of Montevallo soon. She is pretty sure that is where she wants to go. It is only 20 minutes away from B'ham, so not too far from us, about 2 1/2 hours!!

I am in planning mode the last few days - LOTS of moving parts and details to manage since I am trying to get Frequent Flyer miles, survey points, and hotel points to cover all the "extras" (2 hotel nights, 2 rental car segments).

It's a lot of puzzle pieces being maneuvered, but shoudl be a load of fun.

I know we SHOULD get a passport for my 9 year old - but having a hard time swallowing the big cost for her. We are able to use birth certificates on this cruise correct?

Yes, make sure they're certified birth certificates, we're right there with you, trying to decide which 'points' program to pull from...got one FF mile for niece....the RT was soo cheap to LAX that we had to just buy those and save FF miles for the really expensive ones. I'm trying to find a hotel that will give free shuttle from airport that will be halfway to the pier, then take a taxi the next morning, just don't want to battle all those at the 3 port hotels for transportation in the morning, not to mention breakfast?

It is much easier to cruise out of Port Canaveral. We have done it four times now. We know what we are doing, where we are going....all the details. Trying to plan things when you haven't been there is difficult.

Arrive Thurs....must get rental car......Friday drive to DL, stay ALL day...Saturday drive to Hollywood. Sunday return rental to airport, have a shuttle service pick us up to take us to the port...arrange some sort of transportation to the airport from the port. Oh, book a hotel for 3 nights.

I guess planning is half of the fun.
