March 12, 2011 Eastern Caribbean, Let's rock the Magic!

I'm with you on that one! I've had enough of this snow and freezing cold Ontario weather. It's our first cruise too. My DH, Bruce and I (Michelle) along with our DD10 and DD7. We told the girls at Christmas and we're so excited!

Only 2 months to go!

With today's Blizzard in Southern Ontario, we are really needing a cruise! Between the ultra cold weather we have been getting and now all this snow, we seriously need a warm sunny beach. :)

Our DS11 and DD7 are getting really excited! They have been posting to the kids DisBoard quite a bit.

You could always try naming your price on price line. You could try Detroit to Orlando and then do a park and fly at the Detroit airport.

What day are you leaving home? We are flying out on the 10th so we can visit with friends in Orlando on the Friday before the cruise.

We got a great deal from Flint to Orlando. The 4 of us for about $850 return.

OK so lets hear what every one is doing on the islands. For us its....

St Maarten - snorkel and boat tour

St Thomas - heading to Coki beach in the AM, shopping in the afternoon

Castaway Cay- para sailing

Ship - Palo diner and brunch, couples massage:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Saturday: 5:30 pm couples massage, 8pm Palo

St Maarten: Grabing a Cab and touring ourselves (save some bucks)

St Thomas: Morning Catamaran, Afternoon is beach and/or shopping

Castaway Cay: 1pm Stingray Adventure, rest of day, not sure

Open to ideas and suggestions from others!

Now that our reservation is confirmed and our flights are booked I feel confident enough to post a message here saying that we'll be on this cruise, too.

We're from Austin, Texas and there's 3 of us - my wife and I and our 12 year old daughter who is very concerned that she will be "too old" so I hope that some other tweens can convince her otherwise. This is our third Disney cruise - but the last one was in 2006.

We're flying in Friday evening and staying at the Hyatt Place near the airport. Trying to make decisions about shore excursions - daughter dearly wants a dolphin swim but I'm trying to placate her with sea lions at Coral World.

We look forward to "meeting" some other folks before the cruise.

:welcome: Glenn!

You'll fit right in with all the Texans in our Cruise Meets group!
And congrats on getting all booked and confirmed. Feels great to know this vacation is NEXT MONTH! :goodvibes (We've been having fun being able to say NEXT MONTH since we originally made this reservation 26 months ago!)

We sailed 12/08 when my DD was just turning 12.... She had a blast!!! She made friends first on this forum then having someone to hang with or go to the club with, she made more friends from there.
There is a thread on here somewhere that the tweens within our meets group are communicating on... I am sure someone could post it?

There is a list on page 8 Post 119 of our complete list of meets participants.
(I will add you) Your DD12 will see that she is not the only one her age just within this group!

Also we plan to meet in person on Embarkation day at 3pm Promenade Lounge.

Post up any questions! This is our first Eastern, but 4th cruise. Can't wait!

Anyone else following all the reviews coming in on the new Disney Dream and glad to be sailing on the MAGIC?!?!?:confused3

It sounds like an elegant and beautiful ship, but I am not at all impressed by some of the feedback about crowds, lines, poor quality food, lack of "adults only" at the Quiet Cove Pool due to its location by the Forward elevators, etc.:sad2:

I don't want to go to Nassau or make the trek all the way to Florida for a 4-5 day cruise. So, NOT won over.

I am considering rebooking onboard for a Summer 2012 Wonder 7-nighter (without kids) to Alaska, however. We can drive to Vancouver, BC... that'll save a bunch!!:thumbsup2

Was thinking about waiting until 2013 for the Fantasy, now I think if we sail again on a larger ship with the kids (as they will both be teens by then) it will be on RCCL!:scared1: (say it isn't so!!)

Not putting any $$ down on anything yet, but that's a summary of my contemplations based on what I'm hearing so far...

Anyone else thinking future? I know, we still have this FABULOUS cruise coming up! I am just a planner!

Howdy fellow Texan (there are several of us on here!) I believe that there is a separate meet forum for the other kids (tween/teens) from this meet, so your daughter can get to know some of the girls ahead of time (see post #138 on page 12.) She is definitely not "too old" as there are several girls in her age group on this thread (so they should have a super fun time!)

Welcome fellow Texan, we are from Highland Village (just north of Dallas and south of Denton) Your daughter will not be to "old" for the cruise our daughter along with her BFF are both 16 and love DCL:love::love: we also cruise on Carnival and our daughter loves club o2 but prefers Disney's clubs better.

If you do coral world you can walk down to coki beach and kick back.

Thanks! We never make time for the movies so I'm hoping to catch a few of these.

Hi! We have dueling posts going on...
I have a 10 year old son and he will be happy to know there will be boys his age to meet and maybe hang with!
One thing DCL has done to make it easier for friends/relatives/siblings to be in activities together is to list the actual activity happening at any one time at which ever club or location in the Navigator. You get your Navigator the night before so you can plan out your day.
They separate out the activities by type (sports, arts & crafts, etc.) and offer suggested ages ranges but are no longer enforcing ages separations.
Here are several random thoughts because I just ready about 15 pages of posts:

I'm so glad there will be other boys 10-12ish!?!? I was worried my DS wouldn't have anyone to hang with...but I'm sure that won't be the case! He can make friends with anyone so I shouldn't worry!(I'll have him post on the kid thread in the next couple of days!)

Oh, and I'm excited about that movie list.

Also, lots of Texans...we too are Texans, that are just misplaced in New Mexico!?!? We are below 0 now, have had 2 snow days, and I'm SO ready for the cruise!?!?

My DD will turn 6 on the 16th...I can't believe she's that old!

I'm worried about packing...I ALWAYS pack too much, but will concentrate on swimsuits and cover ups! We have a pool in the backyard so I never feel bad buying new ones!

Can't wait to meet you all! We'll do our best to be at the meeting at 3. We'll be flying in to Jacksonville...SO much cheaper from here and better times for us! My aunt/uncle live there, so free night's stay helps too! We'll rent a car and park it...we'll need to leave around 9 or 10 that morning. Anyone know how early is too early to get to the ship?

We arrived at the port around 10 one trip and they would not let us board for a long time. It was okay for about the first 30 minutes then everyone got restless. I think they let us on board around 11:30 or noon.

I now try to time it so we are not there until about noon. We got there late the last time and it was closer to about 1pm but there was no crowd and we walked right on the ship. I liked that better.

Thank you for posting We were wonder what movies they would have --- can they really have all those movies playing on the ship?? Cant wait!!

I imagine some will be taken off the list as they premier the new ones.

We already watch Tangled but I can't wait to see it again. I also want to see Tron and I know DD12 will probably want to see Gnomeo and Juliet. :rotfl:

They only have one new stage show since our last cruise and I have seen the Golden Mickey's twice already, so I am thinking that will be a good night to see a movie instead of the stage show.:confused3

I have some much to do still. The kids need some new dress shoes and maybe bathing suits and other things need to be purchased....rrrggg...I hate shopping.

Plus I need to make my Fish Extender. I bought some material but that is as far as I have made it.

I am looking forward to seeing some of the new movies, as well (including Tangled). But really, any movie on the ship is great (just being on the ship will be fabulous!) :rotfl:
We've been iced in for the past 3 days, so I have started packing the kids suitcase. Looks like they will both need some dress shoes for the ship, and my son will need a dress shirt . Other than that, they are almost good to go. I may start packing my stuff tomorrow (iced in again). I don't think I will need my summer stuff in the next 5 weeks! :cool1:
I have started my FE gifts, but have a LONG way to go! No worries! ;)
And I am determined to make my own FE. Does anyone know where there are instructions for making one? (I can find the no-sew version, but I want to try to sew it).

6 weeks from today, we will have our final sea day before arriving in Castaway Cay 6 weeks from tomorrow!:banana::banana:

If you find a pattern, be sure it send it my way. Otherwise I am going to try and copy some of the photos I see online. Try being the key word. :rotfl:

Wow! We have sooooo much snow here right now....(remember, we're in Texas, so it's all relative!). And it's really coming down now. I definitely prefer this to the ice we've been having. The drive into the office today was actually very peaceful!

But...I've had about enough of this weather...ready for some sun! Maybe I'll have to start packing this weekend too! Ha!

Guess what I received via Fed Ex today! :goodvibes
