March 1-5, 2009 Wonder Cruise

Hi Everybody!! We didn't find any of you on Deck 10 during the sailaway party--I sent my kids around looking for the green tags while I "held our spot" by the railing--but they came back with no news of green tags.

We all head a great time. Our 15-year old son spent lots of time in Aloft and playing basketball or soccer on the sports deck, so we went hours at at time without seeing him. Daughter (12) did not participate in the kids club but instead hung around with her parents most of the time.

Unfortunately I fell ill on Wednesday afternoon with fever, chills, etc. Didn't go to dinner that night (missed Parrot Cay) or breakfast on Thursday morning. My family had to do the packing--I was so weak I had to use a wheel chair all through the disembarking process and through two airports. The good part was I slept on the flight home and then in the van all the way to our home 3 hours from the airport. I am still fighting a fever and headache.

We spent wayyyy too much money at Shutters--my husband and I are both suckers for photographs and we have family photos taken two evenings, plus individuals of the kids. I think I have 25 8x10 photos--yikes!! Then of course had to get a big photo album to put them all in.

We went to the DVC presentation on Wednesday at noon (I was still feeling good) and ended up joining. Hopefully we can make it work. It sounds like a wonderful thing and my husband talked with several people who all said it was great and they wished they had joined up sooner. We bought the minimum points possible (160) but should still be able to vacation every year if we can get away and if not, the points will carry over to the next year. There were all kind of incentives to join on the ship--we got a free 3-night cruise to use by the end of 2010 and lots of other perks. I wasn't expecting to join but just went to the meeting for the information. So we will be "doing Disney" for the rest of our lives, hopefully, and then will be able to pass it on to our children to enjoy when we are gone.

I am waiting for my husband to get home with our photographs--I still use a camera & film so he had them developed today and I can't wait to see them (7 films!). We had an underwater camera and took some fishie pictures while snorkeling--but this year none of us swam out far enough to get a mickey photo.

DH and DD did end up going parasailing at CC and had a great time, though said they would like to have been up in the air a little longer (it was only a few minutes--which was probably OK with DH but DD wanted more!)

I have also been waiting for the world to stop rocking--mostly from the boat movement but partly from being ill!!

Take care, everyone!

starmom, how did your son do with the trip? Did he like it?

We all loved it! Kids club was amazing, it was the most relaxing vaca ever! He loved going in there! I would like to do the 5 day with double dip as well next time! I met some great people on the cruise it was the best!

Did you have to pay like $20,000 to join the vacation club or do you get to do payments or something? I only read about it and didn't really get how it works?

160 points x $105/point. I think the downpayment was like 10% or something but one of the incentives was $5 back per point purchased so we used that towards the downpayment. Then then rest is spread over 10 years of monthly payments with interest--but we can pay it off any time with no prepayment penalty (if we find chunks of money along the way). :)

We so enjoyed this cruise! Unfortunately, we didn't meet any other disers:guilty:

Quick question for you all. Does anyone else have sick kids? I don't know if it's from Oceaneers Club, our time at WDW or just plain being exhausted, but both of my little girls are running fevers around 101.5 - 103.3 and have terrible coughs. Looks like their little vacation from school will be extended! Just thought I'd check to see if anyone else got sick--thanks!
Susie

Mine's fine, did you fly home? Maybe it was the plane? I find it hard to believe that anyone could get sick on that ship I think my skin is peeling off from washing them so much! hehe

Hey everyone. We got home last night finally and I'm glad to say I'm finally home. I'm glad to hear everyone had a great time. The cruise just felt to short for us to get to do everything. My kids (esp DD8) loved the kids clubs. Ds5 enjoyed them but wanted to stay with mom and dad most of the time.

Did anyone find the ship extremely cold the whole time? I know the weather was sucky for us anyway. I was so cold I wore my jacket the whole trip. The poor waiters probably thought that was the only thing I packed as that was all they saw me in :rotfl: . I just kept thinking wheres the warm weather, we suppose to be in the Bahamas. I know most of you all are from the north and enjoyed the warm weather but this southern won't be cruising in March again.LOL

We did the Blue Lagoon Island dolphin encouter and really enjoyed the whole experience except the fridged water:lmao: . Bought some great pictures of the kids with the dolphin.

Castaway Cay was really nice but again I was cold and the water was freezing. My dh went to go snorkling and came out sherving. We did the stingaray adventure. That was cool until one thougth my finger was it's lunch and bit me:scared1:. Thank god they have no teeth.

We love the shows onboard. Dd was asked to be a drawf on the first night (she was the tallest one on stage). Food was pretty good on ship.

Gosh I sound like a huge complainer but it was cold! We did book a place holder date for a 7nt cruise and took advanture of the 10% discount and 200.00 onboard credit. I think we'll enjoy the 7 nighter more due to the fact there are more sea days. All in all the cruise was ok but next time well book in the summer time for warm weather. Oh all four of us came home sick, sick, sick!!

I know it wasn't the trip home since she started to get feverish on the plane home Saturday. I love the hand cleaner aspect of the ship and you wouldn't think one could pass any germs, but if you sat in the shows at night, you'd hear people all over the place coughing. That's the only reason I was thinking the cruise at all. We were in WDW before and after the cruise, so I know she could have picked it up anywhere. :confused3 You know those pesky germs, they're everywhere--even Disney!

I definitely agree with you -- it was cold. Inside and Out! I didn't exactly plan for such cold weather, so my "warm" clothes got plenty of use. Oh well, next time I know to bring a nicer sweater to wear to dinner instead of my fuzzy hoodie!

Thank goodness, we did not get sick. We are both still recovering from all the fun we had. I can only imagine how much harder it would be if we were sick as well. I hope your girls start feeling better.

Here's a photo of us from pirate night. I don't know how to make it smaller!

Anyone considering using the $99 voucher later this year? We are looking at dates in November, but I think I'll be going with my friend this time as DH can't take any more time off.

I love all of your pictures! It looks like your family had a great time on pirate night! :goodvibes

We were thinking of taking the kids back this fall, but I am not sure it will happen. I did a rough breakdown yesterday of the prices, and I think the $99 bounceback offer would still cost us around $2400. That would be a trip with hardly any extras. We would have to fly there, stay one night in a hotel, and rent a one-way car to get to the port/back to the airport. It is also amazing how much tips, taxes and port fees add to that $99. It is still a HUGE savings over paying full price, but I am not sure we can really swing two cruises in one year. :sad1:

sas_mk...where do you live that it would cost so much for airfare? Whew! It's less than $200 per person for us--I got it for about $130 on our last trip.

But I know what you mean...it really ISN'T a trip for $99...especially after I added up my account from Shutters!

I am from Utah. Right now, the cheapest flights I can find are for around $380 roundtrip. We are thinking maybe it would be smarter to wait until the new ships come and one of the old ships is relocated to the West coast. Then we could drive the 12 hours to the Port!! I'm just ready to get back on board now!! :rotfl:

Yes, it sounded like the port fees and taxes add up to another $150pp, and that gets us a guarentee room in that category, not a specific room number when we book - the waiting starts all over again. :rolleyes1 It is definately a great deal - we are looking into October (I think Halloween :maleficen might be fun!) - but we usually don't take 'large' vacations twice in a year, so we are still planning.

Poppy, I don't know if you checked, but next year school calendar is up on the web. We are thinking about going during fair week. The kids also have off the following Monday for Yom Kippur. However, halloween is also a possibility. When we were coming home from BWI I was able to locate your place. It looks very nice.

I actually did check the 2009-2010 school year calendar, but I'm planning on going with my girlfriend and not with the family. (I know, I know....) Anyway, we'll probably go visit my family during the insane week in October. I'm sure you know which one I mean!

So you saw the farm from the highway? It looks much nicer from afar....less smelly too!

We ended up changing the week that we are doing the bounceback to October. So my daughter will miss more school. Oh well. Can't resist going to WDW for the Halloween candy!
