Marathoners--Sleep Adjustment

Does anybody think a 3:30am monorail from the Contemporary is too late?
Aisleleven, do you have anyone who will be cheering you on from the Contemporary? My mom will be with me and wants to watch from outside the Contemporary and then meet me in the MK parking lot when it is over.Is the course marked from the day before, so I can show her where to stand to cheer (Hopefully she can make it to the finish by herself, we will take a test run on Sat.)?

Hmmm...I don't know...I think my group of cheerleaders :cheer2: will watch us on Main Street and then meet us at the MK finish since we are only doing the half this year. Last year, I did the full and I saw "my fan club" (lol) on Main Street, right outside of AK, on the Boardwalk and then at the Finish line at Epcot...

While they were certainly setting up for the race the day before, I don't remember if things were clearly marked...they were certainly marked well on race day...there were bleachers set up at the Epcot finish and there probably will be some at MK as well...I'm sure she'll be able to find her way...she may have to take the monorail...or ask a CM who should know...

Also, there is a little brochure for the race with the course and viewing areas for spectators...It gave the estimated times to be at certain mile markers...be sure to ask for one...

Also, you may find some more spectator information at www.disneyworldmarathon.com

I hope it is easy to get back to the CR from the 1/2 finish...lol...I'll find out soon enough!!

The standard marathon advice is to get a good night's sleep two nights before the marathon. Most people are anxious the night before the race and don't sleep well anyway. I plan on trying to get a full 8 hours sleep Friday night to Saturday morning. Then get what I can on Saturday night.

Exactly!!

Well put!

That's what I'm planning to do!

O boy......I got a ton of questions............

I am concerned about my family in this whole event,
They of course will nto be getting up that early ( kids are 11,8,5, and 2)..........I would love for them to catch up with me later..what should I tell them to do? I mean where should I tell them to go? can they actually see me finish the race? I know the half ends @ MK but where exactly? the park lot? Wasnt aware there was one actully being that anyone who drives there needs to go to the TTC. Anyway, hubby and I have nextels so I can communicate with him through the race if need be. but if he wanted to see me finish, where shoudl he go.

Someone mentioned checking in? whats that about.........
is this for your possesions? I think I plan on carring everything I bring.

Also, if I get there early, before having to go to a corral, I would love to meet up with some WISHERS.........(being that I am doing this alone) is there a desingnated area where we can meet? I know someone mention green scarves, (still trying to find one) but this is beginning at the EPCOT parking lot? if so perhaps we can meet at one of the characters areas..............
O boy I am sure I will think of 25 more things to ask...........so if anyone can anwser these for now that would be great!!!!

OK...

In your race program (the booklet you got in the mail with your official waiver), there is a page for spectators (page 24)...it gives the places and estimated times the runners will pass...you can also get a copy of this at your resort when you check in...it will also have a map of the course...

I appreciate that your family won't want to get up at 6:00AM to watch the start (and chances are they won't see you anyway...24,000 people!!) but it was really cool to see my friends cheering me on when I ran down Main Street. Have them get there before the park opens at 9:00 and they will give them wrist bands so they can come in and stand on Main Street and watch/cheer on all the runners...then after you pass, they can make their way over to the Pluto Parking Lot at the MK and watch you finish. Last year my friends called me on my cell phone (I have Nextel too which worked GREAT!!!!!!!) and let me know where they would be standing so I would know where to look for them...and I was able to let them know what mile I was at so they had an idea of how long it would take me to get to where they were...you should have an idea of how long it takes you to run (or walk) a mile so you can guesstimate what time you will be at mile 10...MK is between mile 10 and 11...

Last year, I know there were bleachers at the finish at the Epcot Finish Line...I am sure they would have the same thing this year at the MK finish too...

I don't want to confuse anybody but there are 2 different "Check In's"...#1 is the check in at the Wide World of Sports where you will pick up your race number and chip. You MUST do this on Friday or Saturday BEFORE THE RACE...you will not be able to check in (to get your race number or chip) at the Start Line...

At the Start Line is a Bag Check area...if you have things you want to check (like a coat check)...they will transport it to the finish area for you...They will give you a bag to use when you pick up your race packet at WWofS...

HTH and wasn't confusing!!
GOOD LUCK!
:cheer2:

thanks alot!!!!!!!!!
hat meade sense and no not to hard but now a few more Q's have arose lol.....
You mentioned wrist bands...... do you need to prove you have a family member in the race in order to get a wrist band? Do you need to pay to get in the park to see this ( stand on main street to watch) in other words, will we have to use a day on our passes? actually by sunday we will have no passes......
thanks agian you are very helpful.

No, you do not have to prove you have a family member in the race...just tell them to be there pretty early (7:30-8:00-ish) - well before 9:00 when the park opens...there will be people there at the gate, tell them you (they) are there to watch the marathon and they will give them wrist bands and let them on Main Street...They may have to wait for you to come by, but they can cheer on the other runners (which is very helpful to the runners) but like you said, you have a Nextel, so you should be able to give them a pretty good idea when you will pass by. They will not be able to go into the rest of the park...Just Main Street...They will not need a pass (or use up a ticket), they will just have to leave after the runners pass by and the park opens at (9:00 - if there are still runners/walkers after 9:00am, I think they divert them through FutureWorld...not 100% sure about that though...)

My friends also had big posterboard signs...lol...so that was a dead give-away as to why they were there...lol

Good luck!
:cheer2:

Wiskband--also--check you average pace for your training walks/runs...and you can calculate what time range you estimate to be at mile marker whatever that coincides with main street--have them there about 20 minute or so ahead of when you estimate yourself to be there.

Did my long walk this morning. Woke up early (before 5:00) and decided this might be a good 'test' run. Had a sandwich, grabbed my fanny pack and radio and out I went. Did I let 10ºF (windchill->4ºF) and snow deter me? NO!!! Off I went into the dark at 6:45. Used my Power Gels and even a bit of the Clif bar to sustain me. Had my water, but it froze on me. That was when I knew that it was cold out there! :earboy2: Felt myself walk quickly and slowly depending on the time, and ended up doing my cooldown for the last little bit because the roads had gotten busy with traffic and slick with ice. End result: 9 miles [I think] in just over 2½ hours. I'll take that! :flower:

I had a wonderful Christmas yesterday with my family. Lots of goodies to eat...does that constitute as carb-loading? Hope everyone else had the same!

Wrapping update: The kids were talking about their gifts yesterday, and I realized that there was one box (one with the books for the girls, snowboard helmet for DS17 etc.) that hadn't been distributed. We did that when we got home last night. This morning, DS17, was off to shop. I asked him what he was going to buy, and he told me. I replied, "But I I got you that." Nope. The electric razor? Nope and "I was real disappointed about that, Mom." A search through the house came up with a bag of gifts (the "big" ones! :earseek: ) for him and a couple for his youngest sister....and you guessed it....they had gotten overlooked and were NOT wrapped! :faint:

Naturally, this hit the wrong thread-maybe not-it does talk about sleep adjustment :p -UGH! Think I'll go back to bed!

Last year we used bag-check for items that we wanted AFTER the race. It was very cold that morning...about 34 and breezy at the start....brrrr! We knew that we would want warm clothes to put on when we finished....hoping to keep those over-stressed muscles and joints from getting too cold and cramping up!

LOL, Debbie! I think this post definitely fits under sleep adjustment. You are doing the important tast of highlighting to us why we will need to lay everything out the night before the marathon. ;)

Glad your ds was able to get his goodies before he left and fought the crowds! Definitely sounds like some of the wrapping (or not) that I did around here! :teeth:

WAY TO GO on that long walk!! You are a brave woman!!!! Here's to those warmer temps in WDW! I can't have my water freezing on me! :earseek:
