Marathon Weekend Weather

That night was a nightmere it was raining so hard, we did not go out!!!

They had to stop the race for safety.

*Flash to Bang Rule* is applied by measuringthe time (in seconds) between a visuallightning “Flash” and hearing the resulting “Bang”.

So if there a CM officially designated to count Mississippily?
One-Mississippi-Two-Mississippi . . .

I seem to recall reading some race reports of a recent rain deluge - Animal Kingdom? It was supposed to be some kind of "hunt"? and race??? and it was called off in the middle because of the awful rain - but it wasnt communicated well - -

Rain, Lightening, it must be a concern - guess we wont have to worry about the heat - like they did in Oct a few years back at the Chicago Marathon!!

Yeah, we were there - Expedition Everest Challenge. The clouds opened up about the time we finished the 5K. We made it through a very wet and muddy obstacle course and got our passports for the scavenger hunt portion. At some point they pulled people off the run course and shut down the obstacle course. That race is a tough one to stop because once people have their passports, they are all over the park. We didn't know they had stopped the race until we crossed the shut-down finish line. We actually had a lot of fun!

Forecast for Marathon of Rain(not a shower or two) isn't a good sign. Especially for people like me who will have close to 7 hrs in it!

I won't start to take the forecast seriously for at least another week. It will probably change seven times anyway. I have enough stress just thinking about the 26.2 that awaits. :)

Brian I actually agree, but since we cannot actually do anything about the weather we might as well talk about it.

Besides as a planner it forces me to go through the various scenarios early enough to react before I haed east.

As a friend of mine said she can't run as much this week so she is going to talk about it all day long! So obssesing about the weather and are clothing is all we have! :rotfl2:

Ugh on the R-word. Will have to pack for all sorts of weather events. Well, except snow, but maybe cold so that would be similar wear.

Kirsty :lmao:

I know we can't do anything about the weather and PLEASE let it change for NO rain on Jan 10th but all this talk does have me doing what Charles said and that is going over the "what ifs' what are my options.

Duane... LOVED your 'cold' outfit :thumbsup2 I am really bundled and most likely over dressed when I go out right now. I dislike wind and windchills under 30.

No... no r-word. That would be miserable. Those temps aren't inspiring either...

I doubt it will rain (so optimistic, I am), but will pack everything in my arsenal just in case. (And fellow Goofsters, that means a second pair of running shoes too... just in case it decides to drizzle on Saturday.)

I think most Goofy's run in two pairs of shoes anyway. It's not a great idea to run two consecutive long runs in the same pair

Charles that is some really nice news to start Monday off with. Sure sure I know it will most likely change by the time I eat lunch but it's still some nice temps/weather to see before walking out the door :thumbsup2

2 pairs of shoes here :thumbsup2

Doing the Rain Rain Stay Away Dance :yay::dance3::cool1: But cooler temps please stay :wizard:

I would say just a little under the average of the low and hi. So for Saturday I would say race start 38 - Hi 60 would give an average of 49. I would range it between 45-50 depending on the sun.

Thanks so much for the weather updates! I was wondering about how warm it would be at the finish too. I was planning on finishing in a tank top and my shorts and having a throw away long sleeve tshirt on, but I may add another short sleeve t under the long sleeve for another layer. I think I can probably start in that temp in a long sleeve t and shorts and some throw away gloves. I might be cold the first mile but I think I'll warm up pretty quick. What do you all pack for rain? A garbage bag?

You might be colder than you think AT mile one. That is a cold spot right where the roadway exits to Epcot. I would bring you tank but I am not sure that it will be warm enough for it alone.

Rain - I bring a trash sack for rain pre-race. If it looks cold and rainy I may purchase a Tyvek tear away suit at the expo for pre-race. During the race I will go with what I have on. You will chill a little but I find that anything not breathable overheats me.

Don't throw things at me but I actually like running in the rain, as long as it's not real cold or windy. I find that it blocks out all those little annoying messages that are coming up from the legs trying to make me stop running. Since I run with a billed visor or cap rain on the face is not issue. I do not wear glasses so speckled spectacles is no problem. I do not really like Disney parks in the rain due to puddling and the path from the studios to Epcot is a little troubling. All in all, if it rains I won’t be happy but it won’t force me off course either. I’ll just be looking forward to a hot bath and a hot toddy to warm the bones.

The exception to this would be if it were to rain then the temps drop dramatically with high winds and I still have 10 miles of Osceola Parkway and the Epcot area to traverse. I usually have a trash sack in the bottom of the fanny pack that I never pull out in the pre-race area so it could come in handy if it is a long day.

The cool temps look good but I am a Florida girl and am afraid it might be too cold for me. I need advice on what I can do to keep wind/cold out of my ears.

Last year I bought a throw away jacket and had an old blanket. I ended up checking the jacket and wore the blanket around my shoulders for about the first 2 miles. It does stay cool in the first miles especially since its still dark outside.

There are headbands that will do just this! The one I run with I purchased at the expo in 2003. They will have them at the expo or just visit a runner store. The great thing about these is that the top of your head remains clear so you can still dissipate heat. It serves as a sweat band. It can be rolled down to your neck when the temps get to the point where you no longer need. Oh, and it keeps you ears warm.
