Marathon Weekend Weather - version 2011

I'm loving the lows...just want the highs a little more up there! I did the Jersey Shore half in May and it was brutal!! Did A LOT of walking and had Fred Flinstone feet at the end! I think my back still has tan lines from that run!

oh no, don't say 'muggy'!! yucko.

In Connecticut, we've been having such great clear thin air.

I'm hoping for low 50s as the high. For me, its the best temp..keeps you cool and isnt uncomfortably cold. One long sleeve shirt to toss and ur good!:wizard:

I agree. I never said I wanted muggy or 60's. Ick!
Low 50's are ideal for me. I've been training indoors.

I'll take 40's though as long as there is no rain!

Having been out on my bike this AM in the near summer conditions I AGREE. Seriously, folks who are wishing for start temps in the upper 50's low 60's are not understanding what they are asking for... I feel for the Med Staff in the event the temp starts off in the 60's...

For sure!!

Thanks again for this thread Charles, I read everyday.

I would like 50's or 60's for the start. I run better in those temps than in the frigid cold. I would really like to wear shorts and a tank - not 3 layers of clothes!!

I was out this morning and temps started in the low 60's. Got pretty warm pretty fast. Luckily there was a breeze that helped.

But, even though I am a warm weather person, low 50's at 6 am would make for a good race.

enjoy,
Duane

OMG I did that race too. My worst half marathon time ever. I walked so much b/c I kept seeing people passing out all around me. They said 178 people were sent to the hospital that day. :(

Mid-high 40s or low 50s would be great as a starting temp.....**fingers crossed** for good weather!!

Gonna start stalking the weather now....it's only gonna get worse and the time gets closer!

My worst half time too! My sister got sick several times during the run. Glad she made it to the finish line!

Seems like the models are syncing up. I dropped the Weather 4 U as it does not allow you to drill through to more detail… I added the wind and Feel Real component to the forecast since it seems like all commercial forecasts have a front passing in the early part of the weekend. Wind is included if the estimate is 10 mph

NWS
5k Start – Lower 50’s – Hi Upper 60’s
Half Start -
Full Start –

The NWS long term discussion indicates a belief that the front coming into the state at the end of the week will pass the Central Florida region. I am a little out of sync with the NWS on the 7 day look out. It will sync up better once we get into a smaller outlook.

Liking the way the forcast is looking:). I also am hoping for Accuweather's slightly cooler temps. I think I can safely start packing this weekend. T-5 days and counting 'til we head south to the Mouse!

I'm one of the ones voting for warmer weather, but the forecasts right now are quite liveable. I was just sooo worried that it was going to be like last year. With the freezing cold December that Florida was having, I'll happily take 40s! 4 days til departure!

I feel the same way. last year was so miserable, it can't get much worse, so I am not complaining! As long as I don't have freezinf rain pelting me in the face again I am good to go! :rotfl:
BTW...to someone who lives in 97 degree weather with 100% humidity for a good portion of the year, 40 can FEEL frigid lol!

mid 40's look sooo nice!! so here's my question.. since I am use to running in mid 30's with a long sleeve winter lined turtle neck...
should I still run in a long sleeve but not such a heavy one?? I will run in capri running pants, but wonder if a short sleeve will be too much.. I guess I can layer, but I wonder if a thin long sleeve shirt will be good enough.. its crazy how 10 degrees can make a huge difference...

are you wearing long or short sleeve if the temp stays as the forecast predicts?

I'm wearing capris too and I'm planning on wearing a lighter long sleeve under my short sleeve and praying it will keep me warm enough. I've been running in 15 - 25 degree weather with a jacket and that was a little too much for me. I'll have a throw away sweatshirt for the start. I think you'd be fine with a lighter long sleeve.
