Marathon Weekend 2026

Good afternoon RunDisney All-Stars! Welcome to this week's edition of Sundays are for Disney (SAFD). It's been a while, so let's have a training check in. How are things going with your running this summer? Have you started your plan for MW yet? Training for something this fall? Taking it easy until time to ramp things up later? Let's hear about it!
Training is going well enough. The heat is killing pace but thats expected. While I have missed a few runs, it has not been devastating misses. I have a 10 mile race in 3 weeks, which has been my motivation to stay in shape enough during the summer to run that race with a goal time. After that race I have a week or two before my official marathon training plan starts for Disney. I feel like I will have a very solid base headed into marathon training! Looking forward to the miles to see what I can do in January.

SAFD: Training is going well so far. My pace is definitely slowed way down in this GA heat, but that’s okay. I’m training for a half on September 20th and then Dopey Training starts a full week after that. Though I now have a marathon 5 weeks after Dopey that is my A race for the season because it’s flat and primed for a PR. So I plan to use the marathon of Dopey as a practice long run. Considering only running the first 22 miles and then walking the last 4 so I can keep it under 3 hours of running and aid in recovery. Though it’s probably going to be a game time decision on what I do. Because I’m likely to be stubborn and still go for broke on it 😂

We have a XC meet in Portage that day, but lmk if you’re coming up on Friday or staying through Sunday if you wanna meet up. (Check Benzie county area for hotels or cabin rentals and it’s only like at 20min drive to the race start and probably more affordable than TC.)
Thanks for the tip, I will look into the Benzie area. Still a bit undecided, but looks like a beautiful race and leaning toward it. I will be coming up on Friday, but likely heading out after the race. Would
be great to see a fellow DISer!

It really is a nice race. They have changed the course a bit since I ran it but it was well organized, clearly marked, and mostly flat (aside from a few hills near Pierce Stocking drive.) That close to the lakeshore means that there's not a lot in the way of fall color yet, and given our weather so far, it'll likely still be pretty green.

And also, standing in Lake Michigan post-race feels sooooooo good.

SAFD: Running 3 days a week, keeping a base mileage of around 20miles per week. Official training for MW starts Sept. 1, and I will go up to 4 days/week. I swim, bike and do weight training as well. I rarely take a day off, which I know isn't a good idea but it keeps me sane!
The heat and humidity have been kicking my butt here in GA, but I'm excited to see some early morning temps back in the 60's on the upcoming weather forecast!

My husband and I are planning it! I should mention, however, that it is a game-day decision. If it's as hot as it has been, there's no way. We did the Garden Spot races so there's the road apples prize if we do it. Can't beat a prize that is shellacked road apples!
I had to look up the road apples prize! So great!

Here's hoping the humidity takes a break and we get lucky in September! (And January and all the other race dates...)
