Marathon Weekend 2026

Good afternoon RunDisney All-Stars! Welcome to this week's edition of Sundays are for Disney (SAFD). It's been a while, so let's have a training check in. How are things going with your running this summer? Have you started your plan for MW yet? Training for something this fall? Taking it easy until time to ramp things up later? Let's hear about it!
Training is going well enough. The heat is killing pace but thats expected. While I have missed a few runs, it has not been devastating misses. I have a 10 mile race in 3 weeks, which has been my motivation to stay in shape enough during the summer to run that race with a goal time. After that race I have a week or two before my official marathon training plan starts for Disney. I feel like I will have a very solid base headed into marathon training! Looking forward to the miles to see what I can do in January.

SAFD: Training is going well so far. My pace is definitely slowed way down in this GA heat, but that’s okay. I’m training for a half on September 20th and then Dopey Training starts a full week after that. Though I now have a marathon 5 weeks after Dopey that is my A race for the season because it’s flat and primed for a PR. So I plan to use the marathon of Dopey as a practice long run. Considering only running the first 22 miles and then walking the last 4 so I can keep it under 3 hours of running and aid in recovery. Though it’s probably going to be a game time decision on what I do. Because I’m likely to be stubborn and still go for broke on it 😂

We have a XC meet in Portage that day, but lmk if you’re coming up on Friday or staying through Sunday if you wanna meet up. (Check Benzie county area for hotels or cabin rentals and it’s only like at 20min drive to the race start and probably more affordable than TC.)
Thanks for the tip, I will look into the Benzie area. Still a bit undecided, but looks like a beautiful race and leaning toward it. I will be coming up on Friday, but likely heading out after the race. Would
be great to see a fellow DISer!

It really is a nice race. They have changed the course a bit since I ran it but it was well organized, clearly marked, and mostly flat (aside from a few hills near Pierce Stocking drive.) That close to the lakeshore means that there's not a lot in the way of fall color yet, and given our weather so far, it'll likely still be pretty green.

And also, standing in Lake Michigan post-race feels sooooooo good.

SAFD: Running 3 days a week, keeping a base mileage of around 20miles per week. Official training for MW starts Sept. 1, and I will go up to 4 days/week. I swim, bike and do weight training as well. I rarely take a day off, which I know isn't a good idea but it keeps me sane!
The heat and humidity have been kicking my butt here in GA, but I'm excited to see some early morning temps back in the 60's on the upcoming weather forecast!

My husband and I are planning it! I should mention, however, that it is a game-day decision. If it's as hot as it has been, there's no way. We did the Garden Spot races so there's the road apples prize if we do it. Can't beat a prize that is shellacked road apples!
I had to look up the road apples prize! So great!

Here's hoping the humidity takes a break and we get lucky in September! (And January and all the other race dates...)

Good morning RunDisney All-Stars! Welcome to this week's edition of Sundays are for Disney (SAFD). Time stands still for no one at Walt Disney World, with attractions coming and going (or being updated). The latest casualties of this have been Tom Sawyer's Island and the Frontierland riverboat. What other attractions do you think it's time to update or replace entirely? You've got the whole World to choose from, so no need to limit it to the Magic Kingdom.

SAFD: Despite the last sentence above, I'm going to limit myself to two attractions in the Magic Kingdom. First off, the Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse has always seemed kind of an odd choice to me. I think it's time to find a better use for that area, small as it may be. My second choice comes with some hesitation. I've always loved The Enchanted Tiki Room and I always try to find time for it on my trips, but its age is clearly showing and it could really use some updating. It seems like Disney has an ideal fit in Moana to update the story, while keeping the theme and spirit consistent. I'd love to see Moana, Maui, Te Fiti and Tamatoa integrated into the Polynesian culture storytelling of the attraction.

SAFD: Keeping it in MK, I say this all the time to Disney. Please please do something with Tomorrowland Speedway. It stinks to high heaven! If I have to pick one outside of MK, I'd probably say Figment is way overdue for an overhaul. They keep bringing out Figment merch, but the attraction itself is just plain awful. Even Eric Idle doesn't remember what he did for that ride.

SAFD:
Oooooh man. Get ready for the pitchforks for the people who want to keep everything Walt was part of.

I agree about Tiki Room. Even if they just did a good refresh on it. If they can do it for Country Bears, why not Tiki room?

Magic Carpets. How many lever up/down rides do we need?

Tomorrowland Speedway. How is this not at least electric at this point?

Are they planning on doing anything with the building that was used for Stitch?

Mission Space. I don't think that needs an explanation.

It would be great if they could add new scenes to FOP (kind of like they do for Star Tours) but also address whatever issue is making things blurry on the display (anyone else experienced the decreased picture quality in the last couple of years on this, or is it just me?)

SAFD: Not to sound like an echo chamber, but Tomorrowland Speedway should be an embarrassment to Disney. There are any number of ways they could update it or they could replace it entirely; the only option that should be out of the question is leaving it as is. I’d even take a closure over continued operation in its current state.

I think many of the classics could use some TLC. Nothing major necessarily, but updates to the audio systems and visual effects where appropriate. Don’t need to name names, I think there is a lot that can be gained from better day to day upkeep on almost everything in all the parks.

Animal Kingdom needs more…and will still need more when the Zootopia show and tropical americas are open. I hope there is already consideration being given to adding a third attraction to Pandora. Hollywood Studios has so much being replaced/reimagined right now that it really can’t take much more being shut down for a while. Would always like to see more attractions around World Showcase in Epcot and, as a Figment fan, would love to see an attraction that better justified the ubiquity of the character around Epcot.

SAFD: adding another vote for revamping and modernizing the Speedway. Also, I agree that we need more Figment.

Are they planning on doing anything with the building that was used for Stitch?
I believe the issue with that is there's asbestos, which is fine as long as they don't play with it. And since the whole building is connected to Cosmic Ray's, they don't want to play with it because they'd have to shut down one of the busiest restaurants in Disney for an extended period of time.

SAFD: leave Tiki Room alone! They did a refresh in the late 90s with Iago and Zazu and it was so over the top annoying. *shudder*. Thank goodness the tiki gods spoke with that fire and Disney changed it back.

I’d add some non-E ticket attractions to Studios, rides that are high capacity to do something with crowds. Rides that are inside…
