Marathon Weekend 2026

Hi! I’m new around these parts (usually hang out over on the DVC threads). Hoping you won’t mind me joining in here! Planning to try and sign up for our first MW this time round. Well, DH will be trying for the marathon and I may try and hobble my way round a 10k. Looking forward to picking up all the tips and advice from everyone here! Feeling thoroughly confused and overwhelmed with the registration process already…but I’m sure there will lots of info over the next few weeks. If anyone can point me to a ‘marathon registration for dummies’ type guide that would be great!

Try here for a detailed explanation and good luck!

Catching up on last week's SAFD, I'm planning on signing up for Dopey #3. My son will run the 5k with me, and if I can convince my mom to come, my husband will likely sign up for something.

I booked the first part of our stay yesterday - 3 nights in a boardwalk view studio. I need to get my mom to confirm if she's going before Thursday, so I know if I'm booking a 1 bedroom or 2 bedroom at BLT.

getting started early too. My flights are booked (on points so I can cancel/ change anytime). If I get in, planning to fly out Tuesday so I can do DATW - that was so much fun this year. I’m not too worried about hotel especially as this will need to be a solo trip.

SAFD:
I have shared before, maybe too many times… My previous career was as a Law Enforcement Ranger for California State Parks and National Parks. My second residence was at Humboldt Redwoods State Park and my last was at Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park/Redwood National Park. I did a lot of running in both parks. This is where portions Return of the Jedi was filmed and I used to love running among those redwoods and was always on the look out for an Ewok!

Welcome to your newest addiction

SAFD: Running early in the peaceful early morning hours and watching the sun come up makes me think of the opening scene from the Lion King. "Nants ingonyama bagithi Baba" I had to google that, because thats not at all the way it goes down in my head lol.

I was about to panic thinking I needed to book a room then a realized this is for DVC folks, which sadly I am not one :(

Most likely doing this one solo as well. Of places to run a solo race, Disney makes it easy. No car needed to rent or figuring out unfamiliar places to eat pre race, ect ect. My wife may come if we could find someone to watch the kiddos and get them to school, and thats not likely. I also have a friend potentially going with his family. He and his son may run the race. Plan right now is to fly in Saturday early morning and return on Tuesday to have a day to enjoy the parks post marathon. Plus I do not want to fly one day post marathon. Hope everything works out and I get a chance to meet some of yall for this first time and for others, since a long time ago in 2019.

I just booked my DVC room too! Switching it up this year and going back to Boardwalk. I managed to snag a "resort view" (formerly standard view) one bedroom for the whole week! DH loved coming down for DATW and now we won't have to leave in the middle of it to go to the airport.

Yeah! Love it! The boardwalk is so great (we are staying there for princess in two weeks!) and I do love that 11 month window. I had to choose from Riviera or the GF and I went with the GF because I thought the monorail would be good for the morning of the full. This is ALL assuming I am going to actually do this....lol. 🤣

What I think will be really cool, is ski and snowboard big air is gonna be set up in downtown SLC
Definitely trying to figure out a way to come back for part of the Games. This is going to be EPIC!

I stayed at the Boardwalk for all my races until maybe three years ago, when I decided to try Bay Lake and the monorail. I will say, it is really nice, but I also never had issues with the buses at BWV. One thing I will miss is having a spectator or doing some actual spectating at that point in the marathon. Since this will be my spectating year for that race, I may try and get to Main Street or TTC before moving back to Boardwalk or over to Epcot.

What does DATW mean?
Day after the Wace?
I love this alternative meaning! :D

I was able to snag a tower studio at Riv again for MW, thanks to an awesome renter! The downside is no bathtub but I loved that room when I stayed there a couple years ago. And I’m not doing a split stay this time so I can unpack and settle in right away! I think I might look into walking to the CBR Aruba bus stop though, on race mornings, to avoid the long bus loop

If you do this, I may ask for a fuel swap. :D
