Marathon Weekend 2025

SAFD: I use my Bose QC II earbuds on my runs outside. I've had them for 2 years, and they've done a good job holding up to sweat, rain and all other adverse conditions I've thrown at them.

I love how even when I'm in aware mode, it tamps down the noise from jerks who feel like they want to inflict hearing damage on everyone around them by disconnecting their mufflers.

SAFD: Shokz for me for all of the reasons everyone else has listed. I haven’t had any issues in cooler weather, but I don’t run when it is extremely cold. And the same situational awareness that makes me like them is indeed a negative when there’s so much ambient noise, such as at the start of races, but it is an acceptable trade-off. DW gave me a pair a couple of Christmases ago, and I wear them nearly every time I run. I wore them for the Dopey and not sure if I even had to recharge them or not.

SAFD:
I use the AirPod Pros. I actually, just recently got a new pair. My originals lasted about four years but began failing a few months ago - distorting, failing to link and losing battery faster.

But I did/do really like them. Very comfortable in my ears, sound great and have worked fine when getting wet from the rain. I do only wear one at a time when I run. They do have a transparency setting but I prefer that being off and just using one. Overall, pretty happy with them.

SAFD: I use Anker Soundcores. They fit perfectly for me, and the battery life is great! I struggle with fit of the AirPods.
Reading here, maybe I should try Shocks!
SAFD (on Monday morning :p): I use Anker Soundcore Sports. I have never gotten around to trying out Shoks but they look so bulky. I like the Soundcores because they have that little loop to hold on to my ear and they hold up well to sweat. Also have had them for over 2 years and no battery life issues yet.
Can you tell me how these are charged? Can you hear ambient noise ok if running outside? They look like they might work for me.

SAFD: I'm on team Shokz as well. I just bought the OpenRun Pro 2 a couple of weeks ago after my previous older version finally died after 6 years. Like others have said, I like being able to hear traffic and other people when I'm on a run and I love how they just slip over my ears and I forget I have them on if I'm not listening to music. The battery life is fantastic and the sound is good enough; there's a noticeable improvement in the bass on these new ones which has been really nice. I also appreciate not having anything inside of my ears, especially for longer races and training runs.

I bought Airpod Pros initially to use at work to block out external noise in cubical-land and because I hate the noise of the white noise generators. If you've never tried them, the sound is amazing.
I've found myself using them more often for noise canceling in places like loud restaurants, airline travel, or while doing yardwork. I have noise-blocking headphones with built in radio for yardwork, but the Airpods allow for listening to podcasts. They stay in ok for the listed activities, but I don't want to try them for a run; if I did, it would be on transparency mode.
So if they work for you, the sound can't be beat. But for my runs, I'll stick to the Shokz because, besides situational awareness, not wanting anything in my ears or falling out of my ears. And if I'm cooling down or in a post-race walk to the car, I can just drop them to being around my neck so that they aren't still on my ears.

Big Thunder Mountain is closing for reburbishment on January 6, 2025. Last day of operation will be January 5. Will not reopen until sometime in 2026. Sorry, everyone coming for Marathon Weekend. :(
That length sounds more like it will be closed for the staging of Cars East/Villains Land construction than refurbishment.

Honestly I come in with the expectation that SOMETHING will be closed for MW, and all things considered, if this is it then I’ll take it. IIRC in 2022 Everest began an extensive refurbishment right before people were arriving, RnRC was closed (and I think it was closed again in 2023?), and ToT was operating on one side only so the waits were ridiculous.

Interesting that the AK closings will start the day after the marathon.

They are noise canceling, so I usually have one in and one partially popped out. Definitely not good for ambient noise. They charge in a little case that come with them!

Dumb question, always a lot of talk about riding EE, but could one potentially ride Triceratops Spin? We run right by there.

I know DinoLand has its strong critics, but that silly little area has a lot of fond memories for this family, even those way too expensive carnival games. I admit I will be sad to see it go.

You definitely can! I saw photos last year of runners on Triceratops Spin.

I’m quite certain @Mr_Incr3dible did this past MW.
