Marathon Weekend 2025

Is Carissa running or is she not feeling well?
Her daughter had a competition this weekend she was supposed to attend but couldn’t at the last minute because of the weather in Atlanta. She was on the stage for awhile but wasn’t supposed to be.
Cone Alley and the walkway weren’t as crowded as I expected. How was that area later in the race?
I started in D and had the most congested runDisney race of my life. I walked most of it simply because there were walkers all the way across and it was too much zig zagging to try to do intervals. I don’t mind and had a lot of fun today but it was so tight even in places where it didn’t feel like it had to be (parking lot, for example). I came to almost a dead stop getting on the walkway between the Poly and MK. Definitely not my favorite half course due to the narrow parts and the lack of World Showcase at the beginning but it was still fun and I loved the characters!!!

I waited literally 20 minutes for this portapotty. I watched sadly as all the runners passed.

The portapotty situation is SO STRESSFUL for me! I don’t understand why the first few stops have only ONE or TWO! I waited ages during the 10k too at the first stop which was a mile in and had two and then when I got to the second stop the line was worse as only one!

Oof. That was rough. 2ish hours in the rain before starting was new to me… and not something I care to repeat. I will say that my disposable rain coat was amazing though! I didn’t even wear the stupid rain pants because the raincoat was so long. I basically stayed dry except for my shoes, which were completely soaked by the time I got to my corral. Didn’t have time to make the meetup.

Loved the new route through MK - enjoyed that much more than I expected! And the Electrical Water Pageant was great, even though it was wall to wall people walking through Cone Alley 2.0.

The standout complaint for me were the cones IN THE MIDDLE OF THE COURSE to cover potholes. Like, I appreciate the attempt to alert folks to the potholes, but putting a single cone in the middle of a race course is as idiotic as not fixing the darned pothole before staging the race. And in a section that was very dark, no less.

I’m planning to cheer from outside DHS tomorrow, so give me a wave if you’re running & see me with my sign!IMG_1444.jpeg

I spent so much time in congestion, I think that's why I hurt so much. I'm used to being able to stretch my legs more when I run, so being in crowds means I have to do a more compact shuffle-jog if I'm not walking (that's what if feels like to me) and it wonked up my right calf and knee, and walking became torture. Stopping for characters helped, and running helped, but there's only so much running I can do before my lungs are like "um...you have to stop now"

I was able to run up the grass median on the hill after the never-ending cloverleaf, which is one of my favorite things to do for some reason 😄

But my gosh, the people walking everywhere but where they're supposed to was killing me! Also, runners don't need to pass me on the right when I'm walking right next to the right hand line of cones. Towards the end of the path to MK, I was about ready to toss the next rude, pushy person into the dang lake. We all know it sucks to be stuck going at a slower pace than we'd like, but there's some places that you just don't have a choice. At least the water was further from the path than it is on that HS-Boardwalk stretch--I'd rather fall in the wet grass than the canal 😅

I occasionally had to run on the right today simply because there were walkers all the way to the left. But I tried to be very aware when doing it and just walked when it wasn’t possible (which was most of the course).

Post race big breakfast at Kona Cafe. We had everything. Glad we got a reservation for final breakfast seating at 10:50.

After we ate, we waded knee deep in the pool for a bit.

Also very glad we went to the expo yesterday and I picked up a new pair of ASICS. Felt pretty good to run in them today.

I really wish people would be more cognizant of where they are walking. And stop walking in huge bunches of people I run/walk and I hate that we get a bad rap because other people don’t care.

Hoping the marathon has more room to stretch out tomorrow.
No. They don’t care. Cue the “I paid my registration fee too so don’t tell me I can’t walk side by side with my five friends!” entitled nitwits.

Poly-to-MK was crowded for me (front 1/3 of D, but I was taking it slow) but steady in terms of pacing. It wasn’t any worse than cone alley during the marathon has been, even though it was congested.

Tortuga Tavern’s door was open today, likely for bathroom access, so that’s an additional option/alternative to the Adventureland bathroom.

Yeah, I was so close to the right hand cones that I could touch them, and someone still shoved between me and the cones to pass
