A little more expensive than the throw away rain ponchos from the dollar store, but Amazon has mylar rain ponchos (4 pack for $19). I learned about them from someone else one here I think and got them to avoid trying to figure out how to keep my mylar blanket on. Plus the hood helps keep your head warm and out of the wind.I remembered that I have a couple disposable raincoats (think thickness like the ponchos Disney sells in parks) and am thinking that might be easier to manage than wrangling Mylar into a cape and sarong.
The forecasting, especially for Apple weather, has been terrible lately. I blame AI, probably.Just sharing a little example of how not great temperature forecasting has been lately…
My forecast high yesterday was 72º. Actual high? 82º.
QUESTION: anyone have experience using a poncho or disposable raincoat as a top layer to trap heat/shield form wind? I remembered that I have a couple disposable raincoats (think thickness like the ponchos Disney sells in parks) and am thinking that might be easier to manage than wrangling Mylar into a cape and sarong.
SO bad, the Apple weather app! I got rid of it entirely and have been using the Weather Channel, but it’s been wildly off lately, too. Even realtime radar has been terrible, which is the part I need most in summer. The forecasting, especially for Apple weather, has been terrible lately. I blame AI, probably.![]()
sure, though RunDisney sent out an email to its CM this morning advising that they check out from costuming winter parkas, gloves, and hats due to 'possible' freezing temperatures during race week.So you’re saying there’s a chance it could be warmer than the predicted 34?

to be fair, I saw CMs backstage at MK in those items when it was in the upper 40s for the 2023 HM.sure, though RunDisney sent out an email to its CM this morning advising that they check out from costuming winter parkas, gloves, and hats due to 'possible' freezing temperatures during race week.
I'm flying out of Burlington (VT) on the 7th and going through Detroit, so I'm watching this too. Thankfully we're used to dealing with snow up here, but the NY airports seem to get jacked up with just about any weather. Fingers crossed for us!On another note, I'm starting to get concerned about the possibility of snow messing up my flight out. I'm leaving from NY on Jan 9 (hopefully). Anyone else hearing rumblings about a storm?

You can always spot the local CMs when it gets down below 70. I've literally seen them wearing earmuffs and mittens when it is 60 there.to be fair, I saw CMs backstage at MK in those items when it was in the upper 40s for the 2023 HM.
I'm glad I'm on a (rare) direct flight (also on the 7th) - we can usually handle the snow pretty well, it's always the connecting airports that are the question marks.I'm flying out of Burlington (VT) on the 7th and going through Detroit, so I'm watching this too. Floridians are weak.to be fair, I saw CMs backstage at MK in those items when it was in the upper 40s for the 2023 HM.
I saw Monday - Tuesday snow predictions in NJ, so I switched my flight to Sunday to hopefully avoid it all. I've been really lucky with EWR delays this year, but I don't like to take chances for MW.So funny- I looked back at my photos and I'm in short sleeves and a skirt with shorts under. I see I did have a hoodie on in the corral, but it's so weird how people feel the temps differently.

I live just outside Detroit (flying down on the 9th) and the weather looks cold but clear for the entire week....I had sort of been hoping for precipitation so maybe I could have an excuse to come down earlier, but doesn't seem to be in the forecast.I'm flying out of Burlington (VT) on the 7th and going through Detroit,
As a spectator, I’m hoping for at least 40s, too. That I can probably stand with enough layering. Below 40 would be real bad.Accuweather forecast seems to be getting warmer for marathon day. Now a low of 35 and high of 52. Ideally the high would be the low. But if we can get into that 40's for the low, I will take it right now.
I know that it's too early to have a reliable weather forecast, however The Weather Channel is now predicting a low of 42 and a high of 54 for Sunday. Is it too much to ask that we get a low in the 50s?Accuweather forecast seems to be getting warmer for marathon day. Now a low of 35 and high of 52. Ideally the high would be the low. I really REALLY miss all of our direct flight options out of SLC! But at least I'm going through Delta hubs where there are lots of flights, crews and planes in case things do go haywire.I'm glad I'm on a (rare) direct flight (also on the 7th) - we can usually handle the snow pretty well, it's always the connecting airports that are the question marks.
WHEW! DTW usually does a decent job even with weather even if something does roll in.I live just outside Detroit (flying down on the 9th) and the weather looks cold but clear for the entire week....I had sort of been hoping for precipitation so maybe I could have an excuse to come down earlier, but doesn't seem to be in the forecast.
I'm leaving super early Tuesday. Ideally I'm there for my early access at the Expo on Wednesday, but as long as I get there before the 5K start and can grab my bib from emergency pick-up, I'm good.I haven't looked at the Chicago weather yet, but that's where our flight connects through, and I feel like things can get screwy there if the weather is off. This is why we always book to fly down at least 1 day early. (I'm off to look at how full these flights are as well, because they were quite empty last week.)
Damp cold is the WORST! And it makes what may normally be tolerable temps feel miserable. (See my post above about multiple layers in the mid-40s for the HM two years ago.)Note that our humidity, combined with the cold, is an odd combination.
Absolutely. I was just in NYS and it was cold (19-22 degrees), but the humidity was low, so it didn't feel too bad. Even went for a run in two thinner layers and thicker leggings with gloves and a thin hat. Completely fine, if a touch warm. If I do that in 40 degrees here, I'm toast. I'll never get used to that odd combination of humidity and cold. Upside, it doesn't happen too often hereI really REALLY miss all of our direct flight options out of SLC! But at least I'm going through Delta hubs where there are lots of flights, crews and planes in case things do go haywire.
