Marathon Weekend 2025

Finally got a chance to read over the event guide. Does the underlined portion mean we're doing a decade thing with the weekend characters again? If so, I really hope the marathon gets some older characters and not just those from the last 20 years.
First off, great eyes. Second, I wonder if this means we might see Steamboat Willie? That would be seriously cool! To my knowledge, the only time that you can see him is at Fantasmic.

Think the included RunDisney shirts go back to having the Park Icons on the sleeve?
I didn't know they did that in the first place. Looks like they had them in 2020 and not at all since, so I'd assume they aren't changing it. Only possibility is if they do something differently when Brooks becomes a sponsor but I thought it was assumed that the partnership starts sometime later in the year (the announcement said starting with *a* 2025 race, which is very vague but implies that they're not doing it for *all* 2025 races).

What did they do before? I’m guessing you’re talking about 2023 (10th Dopey and 30th Marathon, plus retro theme).
As far as I could tell, there was no theme and it was just a random assortment of characters prior to 2022. 2023 leaned into the 90s characters and 2024 did different decades for each race. As someone who only runs the marathon, it was a bit disappointing when I didn't know or didn't have any nostalgia for most of the characters this past year.

If they’re going to copy what they did last MW with the decades thing, hopefully they do it in reverse order.

I wonder what they mean by “era” though (and also, now that I’ve typed that out it seems to be pandering to swifties and the whole eras thing.) Are we talking black&white (steamboat/oswald) and then color animation (SB, SW, etc), “golden age” with LK etc, and so on?

It’s a truth universally acknowledged Carissa is a swiftie

That said the eras would be
Golden: Snow White-bambi
Wartime/Package: Saludos Amigos-Ichabod and Mr. Toad
Silver: Cinderella-Jungle Book
Bronze/Dark Age: Aristocats-Oliver and Company
Renaissance : Mermaid-Tarzan
Experimental/Second Dark Age/Post Renaissance: Fantasia 2000-Bolt
Revival is technically listed as Princess and the Frog-Present but personally I feel that era ended with Frozen 2 and I refer unofficially Raya and the Last Dragon -present as the Streaming Era

Good morning RunDisney All-Stars! Welcome to this week's edition of Sundays are for Disney (SAFD). We're just about a month away from Marathon Weekend kicking off and training plans should be peaking, so let's have one last training check in. How has your training been going? Feeling confident as we head into the home stretch? Struggling and need a pick me up? Let's hear it.

SAFD: November was a bit rocky for me with some residual hamstring soreness from my October race and W&D plus an inspection at work resulting in some missed runs. I managed to pick up a head cold just before Thanksgiving that's migrated into my chest, too. Despite that, I've been able to get back on my training schedu and haven't missed any runs for a couple of weeks now, even if my pace hasn't been where I'd like. Overall, I'm feeling pretty good about getting to MW and getting Dopey #7 done.

SAFD: I’m officially a MW dropout! My hip is flaring up in a major way. I was managing after dropping down to running every other day but that’s not cutting it anymore. I’m done pushing it in my training, fearing I’ll end up doing more damage. So there will be other races in the future but MW isn’t in the cards for me this year.

SAFD: My training consists of being online somewhere at 7am sharp and pressing buttons like a madwoman in preparation for attempting to get VQ for GotG and TBA. I missed out on TBA during W&D and so I need to up my VQ game.

Beyond that, I randomly started a Garmin Coach training plan and expect that I will be doing some runs around Crescent Lake or Pop (juggling multiple reservations now).

SAFD: I've managed to not get injured yet, so in my book training is going great! I'm tired but I guess that is to be expected at this point. I don't think I've missed a run that was planned. Maybe shaved off a half mile here or there but largely keeping with it. I'm "only" running the marathon.

SAFD: training has been going pretty terribly, as far as getting runs done. When I actually get runs done, they go great--my 13(.12, because why not add the little bit to get the total half distance) run on Thanksgiving was less than 3 minutes shy of my unofficial PR and I had no ill effects afterward.

I'm totally undertrained, but I'm just going to go with it. I know I can get through the first 3 races with minimal difficulty, the only mystery is the full. But with my CrD corral boost, I should have about 8 hours to spend on course, so that's just an 18 minute overall pace, meaning I won't die, but I might not get quite as many photo stops as I'd like. I'm planning to do as much running as possible before the sun rises so I can go slower in the sun.

I don't think I can ever do MW again, because this time of year is just too hectic, and I'm not even trying to juggle a job with home responsibilities this year.

SAFD: Tore my meniscus back in June-July. Got some meds from Ortho and took 6 weeks off. Recovered enough to do okay at W&D. But behind in long runs. Had to bail halfway into last week's 20 miler because I was wiped out energy wise (the tank was empty). Trying again today with some great weather. Hoping to get a 22 and 24 the next 2-3 weeks and then starting the taper.

SAFD: getting back into it after two weeks away in Japan and could be better, could be worse. The foot issue that was bothering me earlier this year is creeping up again, not as bad as it was in May, when I had to cancel a half and I was concerned about how it might impact NYC, but it's something I'm keeping an eye on. Less worried about it now because I'm not pressing for a PR in January so I have no problems dialing it back if it comes down to it. I am thinking about getting new pairs of shoes (again), this is the pair I ran NYC in and I did a decent amount of walking around in them in Japan so I'm sorta wondering if that's causing them to wear down more than usual and it's impacting the foot again. Was already going to get one new pair for the marathon, this would be so I could rotate new pairs for Dopey.

So far my training has been going well. I haven’t missed many runs and even the ones I struggle through, I’ve finished. I did a half marathon yesterday at marathon pace, which is my longest run of the training block. I feel good today other than my legs being a little sore this morning and feeling more hungry/thirsty than usual. But we went to Magic Kingdom today and walking around feels fine, even GOOD. After my last (and only) half, standing up was a struggle, so I’m pleased with this easy recovery!

SAFD: november wasn’t great for running specifically, but I’m optimistic for this month. I’ve gotten in a ton of cross-training like I did last year and things worked out fine. I got a massage this past week that solved a lot of the tightness and aches I was having in my calves and hamstrings. I was pretty much recovered (not sore from the massage itself) in 2 days, so I’m planning on scheduling one a few days before we fly down.

SAFD: Overall I am happy with how it's going. Missed a couple of runs a few weeks ago because my hip was super tight and I didn't want to push it given my injury histroy there. Got refocused on stretching and release and that did the trick. Definately at that stage where even the "easy" runs don't feel fantastic but I come to expect that with two more weeks until taper starts and I have been able to hit my planned runs and paces. I'm not pushing for any time goals this year so I would say I am happy with where I am at right now and hoping to close it out over next few weeks injury free.

SAFD: Feeling reasonably good, although a little undertrained - I was sidelined for a couple of weeks back in late Oct/early Nov with a bad cold that I've been digging my way back from. Praying that was my training season cold and for good health for the next five weeks.

I'm reminded again just how brutal it is to get every run in this month with a combination of the holidays, work functions, school functions, and now throw in cold weather (although at least it has been mostly dry). But at the same time it's also where the training seems to pay off with each passing week... so I sort of have a love/hate relationship with this part of Dopey training.

Won't be setting any records for the marathon, but so long as my health and training keeps up the next few weeks, feeling in a reasonably good place.

SAFD: I was out for a couple of weeks with a bad cold, but I'm finally better so looking to finish strong. I have the BMW half marathon coming up in Dallas this Sunday, then I imagine my coach will give me some longer runs to finish out before taper. My longest to date has been 18 mi right before I got sick. It went pretty well, but I would like to do at least one more long run. Thankfully I haven't had any injuries this fall- been consistent about foam rolling, stretching, and doing some PT at home for a weak hip flexor. Here's hoping things continue going smoothly!!
