Marathon Weekend 2024

Sunday is too soon for my muscles, I find walking around a lot the most helpful. I have a massage booked for Monday with hot tub time before. Does it need to be in-room? A spa seems like a great place to spend some homeless time.
I think the only spa option is the Grand, which is a lot more money. I'm not opposed to it if the service justifies the extra cost, but I don't want to pay extra just because of the location.

I think there are more than that, but I’m going there partially for the hot tub access. I’ve tried 4 other places with other pros/cons. I didn’t know about the in-room pricing, will have to look that up next year!

SAFD: Add me to the list of Texas runners who are accustomed hot, humid runs. I live in the Dallas area and I trained through the heat of the summer until it finally cooled off about a month ago. I hate cold weather with every fiber of my being (hence moving to Texas) and I actually plan my runs each week this time of year based on when it will be the warmest (For example, moving my run tomorrow morning from 6:00 AM when it will be in the 30s to 6:00 PM when it will be in the 50s).

As far as planning/hoping, I have a few items of cold weather running gear that I will pack if the forecast looks particularly nasty. Ideally for me, I would love race temps in the 50s with highs around 70 during the day. I thought last year was particularly pleasant until it warmed up a bit too much on the day of the marathon. And I will echo everyone who said no rain and/or lightning. I despite running in the rain.

Houston here...well Webster/League City. I didn't run as much outside this year as I did last year, but I can attest that running in the heat helped me tremendously last year. I ran typically in 95+ degree days around 2pm to maximize the misery and I got in much better shaped doing that than I would have otherwise. And I know this is true because this year I spent more time in the Gym and treadmill and so my heat training suffered and now I'm significantly slower. With heat I ran marathon at 10 min/mile, but now my time will likely be closer to 12 min/mile - sigh.

Does anyone else have systemic issues trying to log into their RunDisney account? I still need to sign my waiver for MW so tried to sign in through Chrome this afternoon. It initially told me my account was locked and sent me a code for access. After putting in the code, it said I had been logged in, but wouldn't proceed past that message page. Trying again got me a message that I couldn't be logged in right now. Switching to Edge, I first got a message that the system was broken and I should try again later. Trying again later, I got a message saying I wasn't eligible to log in to the system at all. I'm getting that message on Chrome now, too. I guess I'll try Safari when I get home, but this Disney IT ineptitude is getting old.

I had a similar issue last year - eventually I realised it was because I had used a different e-mail for my race sign up to my rundisney account. Unfortunately they weren't able to resolve it for me until I got to the expo. At one point they sent me an e-mail asking me to link my account or something like that and I think if I'd done that at the time it would've been fine, at the expo they resent that link and it worked to link my accounts.

I will say, going on a Disney trip in January is a pain, since you need to pack for all the seasons. And when you're coming from the cold, you feel cheated when you show up and it's cold down there as well, since it's Florida, and therefore always hot*

*I know that's not true, but that's the general mentality from people in Canada who have not experienced Orlando cold
My husband grew up in Seattle. He said the coldest he's ever been is waiting for Illuminations at Epcot one night. They were not prepared for cold weather and it was frigid sitting around World Showcase lagoon. :P

Okay! I'll have to figure out what I'm going to do! I don't want to be three hours behind 😂
I will also be 3 hours behind for DATW. The crowds are soooo much smaller first thing in the morning for castle/medal pics, that I can't bring myself to bump them to the afternoon. And of course, the park hopping restriction doesn't go away until Tuesday. *sigh*

I have not had any issues signing in from my phone (safari), just now and a few days ago.

Thanks! I was able to sign in just fine through Safari when I got home. It seems that the RunDisney site just doesn't play nicely with Edge or Chrome. It may have something to do with the settings that my company locks into those browsers since they're on a work computer, as I couldn't proceed to payment with either browser during MW registration and had to make an emergency switch to Safari on my iPad to get in. It's weird, though, because I have no issues logging into the main Disney site to do things like make park reservations with those browsers.

Have you tried signing in to the Disney World website? I had this issue briefly last week, but signing it to another website seems to have done the trick

I can log into the main Disney site with no issues. It doesn't help with getting into the RunDisney site, though.

I've been using the same email for both RunDisney and My Disney Experience since the systems started, so this wouldn't be my issue.

Does anyone happen to know if they still have a decent selection of the "old" magicbands? I don't really want to upgrade to the new ones, and would rather just put a new puck in my old band (my mb is 4 years old now, and it wouldn't open the lock on our room a couple of times in September.) The choices for the discounted ones through our reservation don't match DH's current band, so I'm wondering if picking one up at like the pin store in DS might be an option.

I’m originally from WNY, but have been a Floridian for 30+ years… the cold snaps here STILL catch me off guard every year, lol!

I feel like MB+? MB2? has taken over everything. I don't really want to use it for interactive stuff, I just like the fun designs. And I DEFINITELY don't want to have another thing to charge. But I bit the bullet and got 2 because they were the only cool designs I found, and I feel like my puck is dying for long distance ride photos

There's the Mandara Spa at the Dolphin. I don't know how their prices compare to Senses, but if you're moving to BWV, the Dolphin is a hop away (if you're doing Dopey, not a quick hop, but a hop).

yeah. we have MB2 right now, and I reeeeally don't want to upgrade to the mb+ because, like you, I don't care about it lighting up when I walk past something, and i do NOT want to charge it. I just want to get a new puck to put into my current band.

So I have not been back to DW since July, but I do remember seeing a lot of the older model magic bands in stores. There were certainly more of the new style but still quite a few of the older style.

Being stubborn and not wanting to have to charge another thing, I bought one of the old style MB - a runDisney one, so should be good for a couple years! 😆

My understanding is that people drop in and out through the day, so it shouldn't be a big deal.

The store outside Space Mountain/Tron had a ton of them when I was there last month.

i do NOT want to charge it
You only have to charge it if you want the interactive elements and light-up stuff. It still works as a plain ol' MB without charging.

I think you might have to charge it if you want photos from rides like Tron and GOTG as well? I don't have one but my mom does, and it didn't work well on picking up photos when it wasn't charged.

I'm thinking of getting a massage after the marathon. The question is, should I schedule it for the Sunday or am I better off waiting until Monday or Tuesday? I've never had a massage so soon after a race.
I was told by someone I use that it is better to wait a day or two after the race but I think there are different opinions and depends on what type of massage. The marathon is obviously hard on your muscles but so is a deep tissue massage by design (causes some irritation to increase blood flow to the area to flush out the bad stuff and promote faster healing). So if you do a massage on Sunday, it should be a much lighter touch and really ends up being more of an assisted stretch than a massage. That might be exactly all you are looking for. Otherwise you might get more benefit if you wait until Tuesday for the massage and instead do the usual stretching, foam rolling and active recovery on Sunday/Monday.

Hmmm I interchange between MB2 and the interactive ones from day to day, but have never paid much attention to ride photo consistency. In theory, the base technology of the interactive band is the same as MB2. But it's Disney IT so who knows? I'll have to test this out next visit.
