Marathon Weekend 2024

I've enjoyed running at all the resorts I've tried in the past. I haven't run at AKL and see no reason to try. I need to try Fort Wilderness sometime. We've gone down to WDW quite a bit in the late summer/early fall and I'm usually in the middle of training for a fall marathon. For a more serious workout, I prefer Hourglass Lake. It's easy to settle into tempo runs or speedwork. For long runs I like meandering around the Boardwalk resorts, heading out to the Studios, and running around some roads circling Beach/Yacht that I'm probably not supposed to be on. But Saratoga/Old Key West are great too and I've had some nice runs around Coronado and heading over to and into All Stars.

I love reading comments from those that were racing the half in 2017 that made lemonade that day by running anyways. I happened to be staying at Pop and was only doing the marathon the next morning. But when I went out to do my shakeout run, hourglass lake was packed. Seeing so many out there getting it done, with impromptu water/powerade stops, "character" stops, spectators, etc. was really something. I actually started tearing up and it just motivated me more to just enjoy myself the next day. After I got cleaned up, my family went over to the Boardwalk area to shop/eat and we saw plenty more over there and that was when it was windy, rainy, etc. We stayed watching and cheering people for quite a while. Many of them finished their runs right in front of the General Store where a couple of clever spectators were using some toilet paper rolls as a makeshift finish line tape for anyone that wanted to finish by "breaking tape". It was just awesome!

Can anyone that ordered a bundle at registration take a look and let me know if it shows when you log into your account, go to BUY PRODUCTS and click YOUR PRODUCTS? I want to know if you see it. I mentioned earlier I thought I bought a package but it doesn't appear so based on that page but I wanted to be sure before double ordering.

If it is showing there for people I'll order now but if you know you ordered but don't see it I'll blame Disney IT.

ETA: I have only been charged for the race, no merchandise, but I'm not sure if that is charged at purchase or later. If you were charged at purchase that would be another clue.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, I see the pin bundle that I purchased. It did take me an extra step on Registration day however. I thought I bought the pin bundle but it did not show up when I checked later in the day (and had not been charged). After reordering it, I realized that it was probably user error. I had added it to "my bag" but had not clicked on the bag to check out, so it was still sitting there.

So, it turns out that the Dallas BMW Marathon weekend falls absolutely perfectly into my Dopey training plan in December, so guess who just spontaneously signed up for the 10K and half marathon as a two-day challenge (they got me with the extra challenge medal just like Disney)? I couldn't help myself; the long run for that weekend was 13 miles anyway. I'm broke again though. Lol.

I was one of those crazy people getting the half done with a friend of mine. Had no intention of doing so, which is why I had a boozy brunch at Ohana. My friend texted me in early afternoon, and I couldn’t say no.

I had no clue about 2017 and had to do some reading. Wow. But way cool about all the unofficial .5M runs that people did. Gotta love that.

Knee twinged on Mon in the middle of a run and I called the wife to come get me. Ice and three days of (mostly) taking it easy, plus a knee brace and I managed 4 miles today without any problems. Fingers crossed that the brace is all that is needed.

Someone posted on this a few days ago. The gist of of it is:
"May, record 100 minutes of running (Star Wars)
July, take 100,000 steps within 10 consecutive days (Magic)
September, record 100 minutes of walking (Marvel)
November, take 10,000 steps a day for at least 10 days in the month (Enchanted)"

Here's the first badge. Appropriately, I got it yesterday.

I need to get out and get my miles in!

SAFD:

Good Morning runDIsney All-Stars!! It is time for a MW thread tradition. It is time to share your goals for Marathon Weekend. Goals can be focused on the races - times, PR’s, # of pictures you plan to get, costumes, fun, etc. or the parks - rides, snacks, rope dropping/closing down the parks, etc. Bottom line, what are you wanting to get out of your time at DW During MW? We will revisit these goals in December.

My goals:
- Ride GOTG at least 5 times! (Hoping to get my last 2 songs)
- Get an ADR for Beaches and Cream, which I have managed to fail at for the last three trips…
- PR the Marathon

DD’s goals:
- Creative costume for the 10k.
- Make her dad wear a matching costume for the 10k.
- Have fun.

Have a good week everyone!

My goals are pretty easy this time:
- Finish ahead of the balloon crew and injury free
- Make it into Trader Sam's to add to my already too large tiki mug collection.

Everything else is a bonus here. I'm going to try and do one of the tours, I think Keys to the Kingdom, but I'm not sure when or what date yet.

I'm doing the Dopey challenge and I only have 3 goals for MW:
#1 - Finish.
#2 - Ride Everest during the full.
#3 - See #1 :P

Outside of the actual races, I want to continue my tradition of post-half mimosas. I'm thinking of trying either Olivia's or GF Café. Don't think I'll have the energy to do anything after the full.

SAFD Goals-
1. Get there healthy and be able to finish. I'm dealing with tendinitis in my left ankle right now which has me feeling like I'm never going to get going again. I'm trying to be patient to let it heal, but missing this prime running weather is killing me. I feel like a lazy sloth. I'm going to add some strength training this week and thinking about some yoga so at least I feel like I'm making use of the down time.
2. Have fun and get some pics with characters I haven't seen before.
3. More park time than this year. I scaled it back a little thinking it would be more relaxing and it was, but I kind of missed the parks.
4. Do something new- restaurant, ride, snack whatever- just something I've never done before.
