Marathon Weekend 2024

SAFD: Ft Wilderness is my favorite. It’s very easy to rack up the miles without having to run multiple loops. Crescent Lake area is great too. If you add in the pathway to HS and those bus loops, the path along the water behind Swan and the road around those resorts (even the small portion with no sidewalk) it’s very easy to get miles there too.

Tangential question:

Is there anywhere good to run near Universal Orlando? I'm there more often than Disney due to conferences and work

If you have a Garmin Connect account or paid Strava account you can see popular courses anywhere. I'd take a look around Universal or their hotels. I haven't done any running over there myself.

I've run on the sidewalks of Hollywood Way and Turkey Lake Rd when I was staying at the Royal Pacific. I could have run the mile to Portofino Bay I presume, but that meant going through security into CityWalk.

SAFD: I've only ever done one run at Disney that wasn't a race and that was a quick shake out run before I did Goofy this past January. I ran around Crescent Lake because I was staying at Beach Club. It was really nice and I imagine I'll do it again next January because I'm staying at Yacht Club. For some reason I just can't stay anywhere else but the Epcot resorts. 🤣

SAFD: I love running around the Crescent Lake resorts. I usually run pretty early in the morning so it’s nice to see the area without all the hustle and bustle. But it’s also fun to watch the area wake up. Another perk for my directionally challenged self is I know I won’t get lost. Don’t ask me how I fared running around SSR 😅

Side note: I got a PR and Dopey POT this weekend!! I ran a 2:09:xx last year which isn’t fast enough for Dopey placement so 2:08:xx was the goal. Huge credit, as always, goes to Billy (dopeybadger) for assisting me and writing me training plans that continue to produce results.

Joining this thread very late from Team Doofus. I could have sworn that I put a registration reminder in my phone for MW, but I don't see one. So I'll be monitoring on Telegram and looking for an opening. Just dang.
Sorry to hear that you missed registration! I do know of some charities that I believe still have bibs if you would like to go that route. DM me if interested.

SAFD: I LOVE running at WDW and try to get at least a few miles in every day of our trips (minus race weekends of course!) so I have run pretty much everywhere!
- Favorite for longer runs: SSR/OKW - I was able to do 13 miles here one time without looping
- RIP - pathway from WL to FW, that used to be a great run from WL and then around FW.
- Crescent Lake/pathway to HS is pretty special - but definitely need to get the run done early, closer to park opening time the crowds are prohibitive
- Poly/GF route is nice, especially now with the extenstion walkway to MK
- Coronado and Port Orleans have great running pathways
- Unfortunately - our home DVC resort is AKL, which we love in all the ways except for being a good place to run. I have been up and down the rows of Jambo parking lot a few too many times!

Trying to make plans for getting to WD Expo for Dopey. The Expo will open on the first day Jan 3 from
10:00am - 8:00pm. I am a Gold Club rD member which they claim gets you early entrance. But I wont
be getting to WDW until around 1:00pm. So does the rD membership help at all for the afternoon or do I just get into
the virtual queue at that time...thanks

Gold members have to get in the queue if they can’t make the early shopping time.

They have to let platinum members into the building after the early shopping time because that’s where the bags with their bibs and shirts shirts are.

The bibs and shirts are in a very different section though. Easy to keep the platinum member out of the shopping section. however at Springtime I wanted to go back and visit the characters after they came out and they let me right through after I asked a CM nicely if I could go in. (I'm platinum)

Same! :rotfl: Ever go down the off-limits road just on the other side of the parking lots, I want to say itI was off the main AKL/AKV road between Jambo and Kidani - might be gated off by now. Anyway, it went out a good way with nothing but brush and tall grass on either side and was really quite nice! Until it dead ended at a clearly backstage clearing full of trucks and workers. Oops!

They could keep us out, but I don’t think there’s enough of us that they’d really care. And I asked a CM at Wine & Dine and they said that platinum would be allowed in whenever (caveat—that was just one guy, so you never know what a different CM would do)

Could someone post a screenshot of the merch page for MW24? I'm trying to decide what, if anything, I want to preorder when I get my bib and that would be super helpful to know how much to budget for.

TIA :)
