Marathon Weekend 2024

SAFD:

I'm doing the Dopey challenge and I only have 3 goals for MW:
#1 - Finish.
#2 - Ride Everest during the full.
#3 - See #1 :P

Outside of the actual races, I want to continue my tradition of post-half mimosas. I'm thinking of trying either Olivia's or GF Café. Don't think I'll have the energy to do anything after the full.
We did Olivia’s after PW. We were at POFQ, as I know you were, too. We took the OKW bus after the race, had a great brunch at Olivia’s, then took the boat to POFQ. The folks there were not offended that we were still in nasty running clothes. Highly recommend!

Sooo yeah. Stealing this. Samsies!

And I’ll add
#4 - be adequately trained
#5 - get more sleep than last year and not be a hot mess for Saturday and Sunday.

Mimosas at Chef art smith’s are kinda my thing after the half, though. @azrivest Did you try the mimosa flight at WL?

SAFD:

Disney races are not for PR races for me, so my main goal given I am also doing Dumbo is to get more sleep. I averaged four hours before each race for Dopey this year, and I think I survived on pure adrenaline. But I think I will have a much more pleasant experience if I can get 6-7 hours which is my usual amount of sleep on weeknights.

If they have any rides in MK open during the half again, I would like to do them. Not sure if it was a total fluke this year but I was pretty mad at myself for missing the tea cups which were going when I went by, but I didn't realize were open briefly to runners. Of course I want to do both Everest and ToT again, and if I am feeling good, Everest twice :hyper:

I guess my running goal would to be healthy at the start line with more long runs behind me. I got Covid in early December and missed my last few long runs, and I was only able to make it to BB with all running (okay, slow jogging). It would be nice to be able to run the entire thing, obviously with stops for photos and rides. But I had to walk during the marathon I actually raced last year, so I just am not trained well enough to run 100% of a marathon just yet. So maybe I will change that by January!

Just wanted to say I loved your trip report over on that forum! It was so fun. :)

SAFD: This will be my first Dopey Challenge and first full marathon, my goals are:
1: Finish strong! Injury free and healthy.
1 1/2: Come prepared with a fair number of long runs underneath my belt. My first Disney half I was not prepared at all, and I definitely felt it after.
2: Ride Everest during the Marathon
3: Have so much FUN

Bonus: Get a dining reservation at Storybook Dining at Artist Pointe for after the race weekend!

SAFD: Great timing for this question as today is the first day of training for the Berlin marathon (20 week plan, though serious miles beyond what I already do doesn't start until June). For MW, my only goal is to have fun. My 16-year-old son will be running the 5k, 10k, and half with me. His birthday will be on marathon day so that may be our only park day. It was going to just be the two of us but now my wife may come down which means I am now stalking the website to get her a half bib.

SAFD: Not really a long list of goals.
  • Equal or beat last year's marathon time (3:53). I will take finishing under 4 hours even if I don't beat my last year's time.
  • Actually make it to the pre-race area in time to make a meet up.
  • Try to make it to park close with the family on Sunday night. I have tapped out mid afternoon the past two years. LOL.

SAFD: My goals for Marathon Weekend are simple:

  • Attend Hurricane Hannah's and pre-race meet-ups to see old friends and put faces to screen names for new ones
  • Run all 4 races at training paces so I'm ready to transition into training for my March A race
  • DATW
  • Bonus goal: not bring back any random illnesses

SAFD: My goals for my first Dopey are easy.
  • None of these will be goal races, so I'll run them easy and enjoy the whole experience.
  • Finish the weekend injury-free.
  • Attend as many pre-race meetups as possible, because that was the best part of my last runDisney weekend.
  • Spend the entirety of at least one race jawing at @azrivest for making me think this was a good idea.

SAFD: My rundisney tradition is to make unrealistic goals, not achieve them, but still have a fun run and a great family trip. My first half marathon was Princess Weekend many years ago. Goal: 1:45, actual 1:53, but my sister and I had a great time going to HS and MK the day before the race. My first marathon was rundisney about a decade ago. Goal: sub-4 hr, actual around a 4:14, but we had a fun trip and met up with extended family who were also there for race weekend. My first time doing 2 races in 1 weekend was an unrealistic goal in itself - I signed up for the half marathon knowing it was about 3 months after my due date, thinking it would encourage me to get back in shape. I later tried to chicken out and switch to the 10k (back when races stayed open longer), and inadvertently signed up for both. Race weekend was 12 weeks after I gave birth, but I finished both races, it was my daughter's first trip to Disney and my son's first (and so far, only) time doing the Disney kids' races.

This year is my first time doing Goofy, so in that tradition, my (unrealistic) goals are PR the half (1:53, which I ran as recently as 2020) and do a sub-4 full (current PR is 4:09). Maybe I will meet 1 of those 2 goals, but either way, we will have a great family trip.

SAFD: I'm doing the half for MW and I'm not sure what my goals are yet. I have some speed goals for the fall and depending on how those go I'll adjust my MW goal accordingly.

A couple friends are doing Dopey and we are staying at the Swan (as of now at least) so I do have the side goal of seeing them at least once run the boardwalk but I also don't know our park plans yet so I can't commit.
