Marathon Weekend 2023

There is no logical reason they don't.

Staffing and logistics take money and effort, two things Disney seems loathe to expend right now. Disney also appears completely uninterested in activities that harbor goodwill unless they are also definitive money makers. The kid’s races are nowhere near the scale of the larger weekends so it’s not hard to picture that they simply don’t create enough revenue to be a priority.

Sorry to be so cynical.

My distaste for RunDisney is no secret and I agree with you completely. I hate the race-for-proifit model and avoid them when I can. Disney races are against my better judgement because I love the parks so I hold my nose and swallow.

I suspect whatever they decide to do with kids races will be far too expensive and make them a profit that more than offsets the costs so I'm just surprised they are leaving money on the table.

SAFD
I’d say muppets but I’m just manifesting it for springtime surprise lol

honestly I liked keeping with classics but going with a duo motif:
Chip & Dale 5k
Horace/Clarabelle (or Oswald/Ortencia) 10k
Donald & Daisy half
Mickey & minnie full
Goofy’s “doggone” race and a half goofy & pluto
Dopey & Snow for the Dopey or make the all race challenge the sensational six challenge with the whole gang

I would be surprised if they are never brought back; I just think they are on the back burner for now. They seem to be starting to get around to some of the back burner stuff in the parks but it’s anyone’s guess what they will and won’t prioritize moving forward. I hope it’s sooner rather than later.

Does anyone remember which events sold out first? My daughter is interested in running the half marathon and I'm interested in the Goofy Challenge. Would it be wisest to select the half for her first and then the Goofy Challenge for myself or vice versa?

I would say register for the half first! Goofy seems to stay open a while longer. But you should be able to register for the one and then immediately the other without logging out or anything.

Thank you. I vividly remember the anxiety that I experienced signing up for the marathon for myself, let alone signing up for two different races. I would hate to successfully sign up for the Goofy Challenge only to have her miss out on her first half marathon.

Oh yes, it is stressful! Good vibes to you for registration day!

I'm in the same boat - I want to do Dopey, my oldest daughter wants to do the half and my youngest the 5K, so trying to come up with a strategy to get us all signed up! I think I am going to ask my husband to sign the kids up, as I am worried about Dopey going fast due to the anniversary. I think we will do 5k sign up first, then half based on @DopeyBadger's info

Are you and your daughters running in Springtime Surprise?

UUUGH. I have completely lost my mojo. Guess I have about 4 weeks to see if I can find it again, or I'm going to be sitting out registration day.

Partly because I am doing some mindless tasks at work right now and partly to keep my momentum, I have taken to listening to the episodes of Rise and Run (a podcast focused on runDisney events) from this past year's Marathon Weekend. It's helped me quite a bit because I remember my race weekend experiences and keeps me thinking about what I want 2023 to look like. Also, if you have Disney+, the Disney Insider Season 1, Episode 5 has a lot of video from Marathon Weekend (I think 2020?) and it brought back on all of the emotions and "special feelings" for me. There are probably other online resources, but those are what I'm working through right now.

Need mojo? Watch a good running movie. My go to is Western Time. Search it on YouTube. It follows Sally McCrae at Western States 100. Honestly, I can’t not run after watching that movie; it is just under 30 minutes.

Hope you find your mojo!

Best way I've found to kickstart my mojo is to sign up for a race. Putting a race on the calendar gives me something concrete to look at and focus on, helping me get out the door.
