Marathon Weekend 2017!

Got a spot for the marathon! My motivation was to run through Magic Kingdom and I'm so grateful to get the chance to do it. I know that's not an option for everyone on here but I will be hanging out at the 13 mile marker waiting on those balloon ladies!
I may be right there with you!

Just ran a loop around our resort with my fellow half marathoners... I'm sopping wet but it was fun. I was only out for 15 minutes... expo opens in 90 minutes...

Sitting here at Boardwalk drinking coffee and watching the rain. Disney definitely made the right decision here and while it is a bit disappointing to not run the half, I am confident that they made the best decision for our safety.

The social media unfolding was a bit disconcerting for me though. I am not on facebook, twitter, etc. so I wanted to be certain of the cancellation before going to sleep last night. They did post it on the RunDisney website finally.

Anyway, this overall experience has been great so far and the rest of it will be what I make of it. I'm changing my game plan from surviving the Dopey and giving less than full effort to the full and half to now being able to focus on doing my best on the full marathon. I am choosing to view this as an opportunity and not dwell on what could have been. I'd already decided to try for Dopey again next year if I survived this one.

I feel no guilt at accepting the Half Medal. I ran many half marathons during the training. For all of you with the courage to be out there right now running your own half marathon.....be safe...and go for it!.

In OTHER news... I will be running a quite cold marathon tomorrow. I need to buy supplies at the expo (what are the chances they have a warm running hat?). If you see an old guy on the course who only trained for a "fast-ish" half marathon... toss some kind words his way ;) Time for some "Adventure Marathoning" -- I *am* curious to see the route into Hollywood studios... :: yikes ::

Anybody on property hear a few loud lightening cracks last night. I woke from a deep sleep on a nearby strike!
Ugh, I'm sorry you got up for no reason!

I'm sure someone will have a hat...if not, they were selling hats at the WWoS gift shop. It's the one on the right as you there the complex, there is a small area of runDisney merchandise and one of the items was a beanie.
You need to wear the luggage tag as your medal :)
Totally gonna do that!!
I just want to say I think you guys are handling this so, so well. My Facebook running groups have some really angry people who seem hellbent on making things miserable at the expo today, and it's so nice to come here and see positive attitudes.
Arg!! Don't take it out on the CMs, people!! :(

I decided not to run on my own today and focus on the full (my first full). I will definitely be back for Dopey 2018 now. No doubt about it.
I had decided not to do another rD challenge, but I think that I will after this. I ran the mileage in training without any injury problems this season. I really want to finish it with races. Our APs will cover the tickets. Just need to convince the wife to make the trip again (third year in a row in January).

I called RunDisney this morning. Goofy and Dopey runners only have only 1 option: the e-gift card, and processing begins early next week. No chance to defer to Goofy or Dopey next year.

While I'm pleased that they are offering some level of compensation (which they don't have to do), I find it odd that the challenge runners have no options. We paid the same price for the races plus a small premium for the challenge shirts and medals so why the lack of options? My only thought is that maybe they can't handle processing more than 20,000 participants in such a short timeframe. The expo will be interesting today!

Hubby and I went for a run around Saratoga and Disney springs this morning, only did half of a half due to having no water, but at least felt like I did something. Ran into some other runners, great comraderie, it made my day. This is why I run Disney

I'm headed to the expo as soon as it opens so I'll report back if it's a madhouse. I'm actually going to try to get there for 10.30 in the off chance that they open early.

Lots of people running at the poly. I'm content just resting today and trying to navigate refunds at the expo, luckily I had nothing else planned today besides recovery time. Pinned my bib to my back to put it "behind" me. :)

Hourglass lake is a 13.1 party right now. I went out to do a 3 mile shakeout for tomorrow and there might be 200 people here during their own half. People wearing bibs and costumes with plenty of crowd support throughout. I saw at least 2 groups offering water or Gatorade and heard some cowbells. It was a pretty fun thing to "bandit" this morning for a bit.

I was able to return my I Did It! shirt and magnet at our resort, just FYI.

We have decided to leave early. :( Whole point of the weekend was to run the half and then stay the night to cheer on marathoners next day since we were here. Yesterday we were also called from our dog's boarding kennel because he'd been attacked by another dog. They took him to the vet and he's fine, but I would feel better if we go pick him up and take him home. Seems this weekend was ill-fated all around.

Wishing all you marathoners much luck and awesome weather tomorrow! Wish we could be there, but will be in spirit. You can imagine our signs at BWI tennis courts:
