Marathon Weekend 2017!

I bought a 20th anniversary Half shirt. Now I don't even want it really. Good thing I didn't buy the I did it shirt.
We R going to go to the Expo hall when they open to return that and the I Did It shirts. I can't imagine r they would turn us down.

Just finished 13.1 around hourglass lake- quite a few runners out. Now I'll feel good about Dopey medals, although still disappointed about this of course. Been planning to run this dopey for more than 2 years.

I do think rundisney made the right call- quite a bit of lightning in the distance. But very sorry for all who have been looking forward to the half.

As many have said already- you should be proud to be here. The training is the hard part, this was supposed to be our well earned dessert!

To all of the awesome Half Marathon runners--I know you have prepared hard, and this is a true disappointment. But because you are so determined to begin with, you will figure out some way to make this up to yourself. You have earned that.
Didn't know how to react last night. To be candid it was more of a relief. Just before this all broke, I was going to tell my DW (Dopey-er) not to be surprised if I didn't finish the 1/2. My knee was very 'loose' following the 5K and 10K runs (need a knee replacement in a few years), so when the news broke it was initially a relief.

Now, its more of a numb feeling. Mother Nature won this one. RunDisney did the right thing. I sure did want that pic of, and the experience of, running up Main Street USA that DW has had on her prior DW 1/2's. But there are other greater 'tragedies' in life so one must keep the cancelled 1/2 in perspective.

We'll likely use the credit towards our planned participation in the Super Heroes in Nov and will gladly take the Coast to Coast medal too.

We talked about returning in 2019 for the Dopey for both of us, with me either stronger lower body to compensate for my bad knee or with a brand new knee.

Still going on with our plans today for a very early dinner with DW, DSiL and DBiL at House of Blues then I'll cheer them tomorrow when they run the full (and me with a ressie for a solo breakfast st Kona Cafe mid race).

Wearing my half marathon gear today. If you see someone wearing their half shirt with long red hair in a ponytail, green ribbon tied in a bow around it, Ariel flip flops, and a cursed 13.1 Donald sweaty band in the magic kingdom.... come say hi!!

Not real impressed with Disney giving only the gift card option for Goofy/Dopey runners but I guess they didn't have to do even that. Just not sure when I would use it but oh well.

I'm going to rock my bib as well. It's already pinned to my shirt, so why not? Disney did the right thing and I am extremely thankful that they are offering refund options. I'm going to defer the registration to the 2018 WDW half.

Goofy & Dooey runners DO NOT need to go to the expo but must take the gift card option.

So glad I can avoid the expo. I was planning to take the gift card anyway so that works as well. I hope for those of you who head to the expo that it goes quickly and smoothly for you.

And just so thankful for this forum and all of you here. It really is a great community here. We are headed to DHS today with the kiddos and plan to make the most out of the day.

Sorry we missed the meet up yesterday but hoping to see some of you before the marathon tomorrow. Bundle up though - looking colder and colder for the morning!! Brrrr.

Got a spot for the marathon! My motivation was to run through Magic Kingdom and I'm so grateful to get the chance to do it. I know that's not an option for everyone on here but I will be hanging out at the 13 mile marker waiting on those balloon ladies!

There were dozens of people running at POP/AoA when I finished at 6:30AM - it was a bit lonely at 4:15AM when I started though. There were cheerleaders on one side of the bridge, and a water station setup on the other by some lovely guests at POP (I assume).

Security was getting the cheerleaders in trouble for being too noisy :)

Now to get breakfast, and die for a couple hours before braving the expo for my refund.

My strava if you are curious https://www.strava.com/activities/823867332 :) not my best effort, but given everything it is good enough.

Also - quite the light show between 5:30- 6:00AM all around, so probably the right choice to cancel.

edit: if you saw figment before 6:30, that was me - I changed for the last 5K. I couldn't let my costume go to waste.

Will also be rocking my bid on my bag, I ran a half marathon today, on my own terms :)

I don't think this is accurate. Reading the event guide it uses the term 1/2 marathon runners, which would include IMO those registered for the Gofey and Dopey.

When you read more of the details it says challenge runners will get electronic gift cards. No other options provided.

Well this has been an exciting ten hours! I raced off to Magic Kingdom yesterday without my reading glasses. So I wasn't checking email and was barely reading texts from my family. I went to dinner in Epcot, drove back to my resort and was getting ready for bed. I was about to lay out my half marathon attire but decided to check in with my Facebook running buds... and I read all these condolences about the half being CANCELLED!. I was THIS CLOSE to waking at 3:30am, dressing, and walking down to an empty bus line :(

My first thought was with the Goofys and the Dopeys. I LOVE that some of you ran 13.1 "off course" to compensate. :: HIGH TEN :: for creativity and gumption. To those who were running their first half marathon -- MAJOR MAJOR :: hugs ::

In OTHER news... I will be running a quite cold marathon tomorrow. I need to buy supplies at the expo (what are the chances they have a warm running hat?). If you see an old guy on the course who only trained for a "fast-ish" half marathon... toss some kind words his way ;) Time for some "Adventure Marathoning" -- I *am* curious to see the route into Hollywood studios... :: yikes ::

Anybody on property hear a few loud lightening cracks last night. I woke from a deep sleep on a nearby strike!

Think Lightning McQueen will be parked outside of the expo today??

In all seriousness, my heart goes out to everyone missing out on the half, especially those here solely for the half. I hope you wear your medals proudly. You've still earned them.

Now, selfishly, I'm really not looking forward to the zoo that I imagine the expo will be today. I have to pick up my marathon packet and would like to check out some rD gear.

of course the weather is now changing to scattered thunderstorms and pretty much clearing up (i.e. only rain) after 9am....so they couldn't just delay the damn thing from 5:30 to like 9:30???? Really? So you take up a couple of hours or park time to have runners go through, geez, would it be so bad than pulling the plug completely? I know there is setup and on-course volunteers but geez.
No because they want MK vacated by a certain time with all runners gone.

Plus even though it is disney property, I am sure permitting for the roads is still involved.

Plus, the whole volunteer schedule would be hosed as I am sure people might have had other plans later in the day.
