Marathon Weekend 2017!

I have wrapped four boxes. Three have notes in them and the fourth has the bands. I am putting the first box under the tree with the first note. It is a clue to the next one. They will have to open each box and figure out the clue that leads them to the next box. It leads to the fourth box that has the bands which will be hidden in the living room in a chest.

I am hoping they are as excited as I am. Right now they are convinced I am going solo, doing my best not to spoil it.

That is awesome! I'm sure they will love it. You went solo last year, right?

For any of guys and gals that like podcasts, Let's Run Disney just put out a short Marathon weekend "preview". Can't say there's a lot in there that you probably haven't seen here already, but if you need something to kill 45 minutes it's worth a listen. Also I'll throw another one I've been listening to lately - House of Run. Good podcast covering all kind of things running.

i moved here from Colorado to get away from the snow and cold so I hear ya. But the temperature dropped about 45 degrees in just a few minutes. That's insane! :)

I have a love/hate with the 'Ohana shrimp...I love them because they are so yummy, but I hate them as I always end up being the designated shrimp peeler at my table.
On Marathon weekend I'm usually their with just friends and my wife. I'm pretty it'd get uncomfortable if I started pealing any of their shrimp for them.

I'm from Maine. I'm always the peeler of shrimp & breaker of lobster shells.
It would be handy to know how to get the most meat out of a lobster. I usually stick with tails which is basically Lobster for dummies.

Thanks for the House of Run recommendation! I'm always looking for more running podcasts. Have to say I wasn't nuts about Let's Run Disney the first time around and I didn't realize they were back.

@Keels

We're going to to try and make the meetup at Hurricane Hannah's on Friday. DW and I are running the half on Saturday morning.

For those not staying at the Beach Club or Boardwalk area, will they let you through the guard gate at Beach Club to park there, or do we need to park in the public parking area outside of the Boardwalk Inn and walk the long way to Hurricane Hannah's? We've never gone to the Boardwalk area when not staying in one of the resorts there.

Sooo, my girlfriend and I submitted the same race time for the upcoming half marathon. She and I completed the Tower of Terror 10-Miler in 1:52. When we submitted that time for the Wine and Dine in 2015, we were placed in a middle corral, which worked perfectly for us. For the half marathon in January, I was placed in a middle corral, but she was placed in the absolute last one. Does anyone ever had any good luck with getting Disney to change their Corral? My gf sometimes has anxiety problems, and waiting in our corral for over an hour after the first corral begins might be an issue.

I called RunDisney and they told me nothing could be done. I also sent an e-mail. Hopefully some Disney Magic will come our way.

My kids don't even know I am racing. I was planning a Christmas morning scavenger hunt--if I can get my act together and make one up. I plan on the reveal being the fact that they get to go to my next race ( they love the destination ones). Then I will casually mention where it is.

The only people who know I am doing this race are a few runner friends. Extended family doesn't know--I am paranoid someone will ruin the surprise for my kids. Also, my kids are so hyped up for Christmas. One more big thing and I think they will explode with excitement. I need them to stay focused for school.

Never fails: all the exciting stuff finally comes out when I'm away from a computer for days!

Quick catch-up:

Waivers!!! I'm quite pleased with a K corral for Dopey with no PoT submitted. I was in J for the 2016 full with PoT.

No through-the-castle for the half?! I don't really care, personally, but it'll be interesting to see how that goes over... because you know a large percentage of runners will not have noticed that on the map!

Folks who've been clearly mis-corralled: do speak with Runner Relations at the expo if you have screenshots of what you entered/submitted. I was with a friend who did just that not long ago and RR couldn't have been nicer and it was all handled in mere minutes.

Beer at mile 25: YES! I took a chance on one because a lovely spectator handed it to me for free and it was fab-u-lous. Couldn't drink more than a few good swigs because it was sloshing all over my hand, but it tasted amazing, numbed my screaming legs just a tough - enough to finish strong - and threw some carbs in the tank to keep me going.

Training: I. am. DONE! Did my final Dopey training this past weekend: 3/6/12/22. The 22 was HOT. Crazy-hot. Pushing 90-hot. I never want to do that again, TYVM.

What is on your marathon weekend wishlist? It can be running related, Disney-related or something else, but what are you hoping for during the race weekend?
~ Finish all 4 Dopey races uninjured, healthy, and feeling good
~ Fun times with my running family
~ Weather that's just right: not too hot, not too cold. Which, of course, will totally be "too hot" and/or "too cold" to someone else, lol!

Try again at Runners Relations at the expo. If they were at fault for the wrong placement they might move her up. No guarantees though.

Also if her anxiety is severe enough and Runners Relations doesn't help. Go to the runDisney booth (do not start this at Runners Relations, previous experience states they won't be much help with what I'm recommending) and find out whose in charge of the disabilities runners. See if they can't help her. I use them when at Disneyland because the lights they use for the cameras can trigger migraines for me. I'm not sure what their response for anxiety will be but you can at least see if that they might be able to help.

The last TOT was in 2014 and 2017 Marathon weekend proof of time races have to be January 1 2015 or more recent. So if that was her proof of time it was too old and that is why she is in the further corral. What proof of time race, race date, and estimated time did you enter for yourself and for her? Runner relations might help you if you have screenprints of what you submitted for proof of time, but if an ineligible race was used for POT then the screenprints will not matter.

You can always drop back to the later corrals. Good luck!

Did you both put the same estimated time? If it's under 2:45 for the half they check the proof but if you estimated over they don't even check it. If you put a proof that didn't back that under 2:45 up you are put in the last corrals. Did the POT race you entered take place between January 1, 2015 & Oct. 4, 2016? Tower of Terror would be too old to use. If you both put the exact some stuff not sure why you aren't the same. I have heard of people getting it fixed at RUnner's Relations at the expo if you bring the proof you did enter a race meeting the criteria & the race you entered on print outs. Just be nice & expect a no it can't be changed.

The last Tower of Terror that I see run in Disney was on 10/04/14. Is that the one that you submitted as proof of time? If so, that could be the problem. Proof of time for this year's Marathon Weekend had to be from a race run after 01/01/15. It may be that your girlfriend's proof of time was spot-checked and flagged as invalid while yours slipped through. The race would have been good for proof of time for the 2015 W&D, though, which explains why it worked out for that weekend. If that's the case, I don't think you'll have any luck with a corral change since the proof of time was not valid to begin with. It can't hurt to ask, though...

Well the weather people were completely wrong. I got my whole run in with no thunderstorms and it only rained on me about 1/4 of a mile. It was pretty much a perfect running day. 50-60's, cloud cover, light breeze. DH rode his bike with me the first 15, then I finished up the last 10 on my own. I listened to every playlist on my phone lol. Yay for taper time! I know a lot of you don't go that high in mileage but my JG plan called for 26 so I compromised with 25. But while I was obsessing over the weather I forgot to check what time sunrise was lol. We got out there way too early and had to sit in the truck a half hour! We have no street lights out here. :)

MY weather people were completely wrong, too!
I went to bed expecting 45 degrees and light rain. I woke up to 32 degrees (plus/minus 2 degrees), icy roads, rain, sleet, snow, and dozens of car slide-offs. :scared:

Long story short, my hip hurts from turning to the right about 800 times (200 laps and 4 turns each lap) on an indoor track. :crutches:

HEY! BUT I COMPLETED 23 MILES! Bring it on, Goofy! :goofy:

Doug
