Marathon Weekend 2017!

You missed one other reason to wear your MagicBand @Keels ...FP+ for ToT and RnRC! Guessing if @Wendy98 doesn't want to stop for characters then rides are probably out of the question...

Would FP+ really work during the marathon, or were you joking? Wouldn't they have to be activated at the front gate of the park to work at a FP scanner?

Also, seems appropriate to pull this out now.

Marathon Weekend Goals

On April 27th, 2016 I posted the following in this thread (~3,600 posts ago). So how does this compare to today? I've included a file with short summary answers of everyone if you don't want to go searching through the old thread posts.

Whoa! My goals have certainly changed.

Originally: Have fun at the Half, have a great dinner the night after, and have enough in the tank to explore Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley

Potter is out, and Goofy is in!
My wife and I dropped our Universal plans, and instead upgraded to Goofy. We still have plans for a great dinner, though! Jiko after the marathon.

I don't start checking the disboards until about 5 weeks out... even though I mostly lurk, I really enjoy the shared excitement :)

To those racing a new distance --- high fives and go get 'em. Disney is where I raced my first half (2008),
first marathon (2011), and only Dopey (2014).

RACE - Half
NAME - Alan
DIS'er name - tennesotans
Costume/Clothing - Running Clothes
Corral - C
Early Bird or Late Arriver - Late
Front, Middle, or Back of corral - Back
Expected Pace - 8 min/mile

Goals:
- new PR for the half
- have a blast :)

RACE - GOOFY (Half & Full)
NAME - Doug
DIS'er name - hauntedcity
Costume/Clothing - Regular running clothes. Probably one of the Jeff Galloway Raw Threads shirts on Sunday.
Corral - H, dropping to I
Early Bird or Late Arriver - Early
Front, Middle, or Back of corral - Back? We usually like to start out in the front, but want to make sure we don't come out too fast (using Run Walk Run)
Expected Pace - 13:00-ish for Half; 12:00-ish for Full. We usually run around 11 min/mi, but need character stops and Everest. :)

@DopeyBadger

RACE - Marathon
NAME - Andrew
DIS'er name - Donald Ace
Costume/Clothing - normal running clothes (possible slight dory nod with blue shirt yellow shorts)
Corral - D
Early Bird or Late Arriver - Earlish
Front, Middle, or Back of corral - Middle
Expected Pace - Will try to average around 8:45/mi. Hope to break 4 hours.

Thanks for putting this together and really enjoy all the running analysis and insider updates you guys have. Pretty much just read/lurk on here but thought I would put my info out there.

Wow, take a few days to go skiing and the thread catches fire :firefight

RACE - Marathon
NAME - Jeff
DIS'er name - JeffW
Costume/Clothing - No costume, blue shirt, black shorts, black Zensa compression sleeves, white visor
Corral - D
Early Bird or Late Arriver - Late (last possible monorail)
Front, Middle, or Back of corral - Front
Expected Pace - 8:30 (if the heat stays in check)

What is on your marathon weekend wishlist? It can be running related, Disney-related or something else, but what are you hoping for during the race weekend?

- Enjoy the entire marathon and not just the earlier (easy) miles.
- Relax over the weekend. For the first time, we are doing no parks.
- Ideally the race will be 50 degrees and overcast from start to finish... but the rest of the long weekend I'd like 75 and Sunny.

With a tailwind all the way around the course...

That's probably how it's supposed to work, but I'm guessing it will be fine. If not, nothing lost.

My apologies if someone else has already started tracking/reporting this, but didn't see the discussion on this:

Marathon week weather is starting to come into extended forecast view (from weather.com):

Mon Jan 2: Partly Cloudy, High 76 Low 59, 10% Chance of Rain, Winds ESE 8 mph, 68% Humidity, Sunrise 7:18am
Tue Jan 3: (pending)
Wed Jan 4: (pending)
Thu Jan 5 (5K): (pending)
Fri Jan 6 (10K): (pending)
Sat Jan 7 (1/2): (pending)
Sun Jan 8 (Full): (pending)

Will add on/update going forward. @DopeyBadger or @rteetz (or anyone else) if either of you had something planned for the weather forecast I'll defer to your approach.

I haven't done anything yet. I probably won't start really looking until 10 days out. I still feel it's too early and things can change. Heck it's 11 degrees here and right now they are predicting 40 degrees and rain on Christmas Day. Weather is crazy.

Thank you to everyone who responded to my post. I didn't realize the 2015 cutoff date for the race time submissions. It is somewhat strange though that I submitted my ToT race time too and they must have accepted it. We both ran that Wine and Dine back in 2015, but because of the weather, it was cut from a half marathon down to a 7-ish miler. I wonder if they'd accept that race result at the expo considering it wasn't exactly our fault for the distance change.

Try again at Runners Relations at the expo. If they were at fault for the wrong placement they might move her up. No guarantees though.

Also if her anxiety is severe enough and Runners Relations doesn't help. Go to the runDisney booth (do not start this at Runners Relations, previous experience states they won't be much help with what I'm recommending) and find out whose in charge of the disabilities runners. See if they can't help her. I use them when at Disneyland because the lights they use for the cameras can trigger migraines for me. I'm not sure what their response for anxiety will be but you can at least see if that they might be able to help.

I may look into that, thank you!

Many thanks again to everyone and I hope you have a happy holiday!

Okay, best get this taken care of, don't want @DopeyBadger chasing after me!

LOL, oh I'll be chasing you. But we both know you're safe, because I won't catch you. :P

Nothing planned for weather from me. I find the most useful weather predictions are about 5 days out for temperature and 3 days out for precipitation. Anything beyond that and the weather predictions are more often wrong than right (less than 50% accuracy). For long range forecasts, I tend to look at historical trends over the last 5 years for those dates. So feel free to take the reins on weather posting if you wish. With all that being said, it doesn't stop me from looking too! :D

Yep, meteorologists here don't even give snow totals until about 2-3 days before an incoming storm anymore because too much can change.

As of right now which I expect to change, only a chance of rain for the half (again I think that will probably change 10 times before the weekend begins). This is using AccuWeather.

1/4- High 73 Low 54
1/5- High 76 Low 55
1/6- High 77 Low 53
1/7- High 75 Low 55
1/8- High 77 Low 54

Do you have an Excel sheet with your weather forecasts, and the historical trends, making sure to account for Polar drift, Sun albedo effect, and Earth's nutation and precession? Keep in mind that the Cubs won the World Series this year, so hell is likely frozen over at the moment, and hence all of you estimates are probably wrong.

You can chase me in the half though if you want :)

That's the plan. Although given your pace, I think you're safe. So, see you at the finish line!

:rotfl2:

Back to the drawing board. I did have a historical weather forecast with Polar drift, Sun albedo effects and Earth's nutation... BUT DARN ME I FORGOT THE PRECESSION! UGH.... Looks like a long night of calculations ahead... Oh and I luckily don't follow baseball so does that mean I can ignore the cubs effect... Probably not... :artist:
