Marathon Weekend 2017!

I bet you could just cut the ribbon portion off the medal pin and use it as a tie pin. It's a little large, but it looks cool.
Definitely going to check out all of the pins with this in mind since we are cruising after the Dopey.

Happy Sunday, runDisney All-Stars! There are less than 16 weeks until the marathon. CAN. YOU. DIG IT?

Now, on to today's Sundays are for Disney question:

What is on your Disney bucket list?

I hope completed bucket list items count. I ran my first and "for now" only marathon at Disney in 2010. Going in it was a bucket list item and that's where it stands now. I have found my comfort level with the 1/2 marathon running with my DW sandwiched by vacation time pre and post race.
Other than that just finding new adventures on our annual October and January trips is on my perpetual bucket list!

Wear them the next day too! Just be prepared to stash them away in a pocket or bag (when not posing for pics) and only wear one while walking around, as they can get a bit unwieldy...
We are only running the marathon, so that won't be a problem. Thanks, everyone! I feel confident already. Now we just have to complete it!

Week 2 of Galloway Half Marathon for beginners training in the books. 3 miles felt good but it blows my mind that I'll have to do 10 more to get through!

Disney Bucket List

Visit Disneyland
Visit Aulani
Do the Wilderness Back Tour at Fort Wilderness
Do the Walk in Walt's Footsteps tour at Disneyland
Do one of the holiday tours at WDW
Eat at Club 33
Visit Disney Studios in Hollywood

Hi all ! I'm Robyn I will be running the Goofy Challenge come January. I'm very excited / anxious for it but the excited part of me outweighs the anxious! I just came across this thread yesterday (Sunday) I usually spend my time on this site reading (lurking) on the trip reports BUT wanted to introduce myself over here. I'm running by myself so the more support from fellow runners the better!

As for my Disney bucket list:
Watch Wishes from the Poly beach
Stay at every WDW resort
Eat/ DRINK my way around the world
Wild Africa Trek tour or Keys to the Kingdom
Lunch with an Imagineer
WDW Marathon

Hope everyone has a Happy Monday!

I was wondering: do people wear their medals much after the race? Our plan after the marathon is to head back to the hotel, shower, nap and then off to Disney Springs (more specifically, Raglan Road) to celebrate. I'm assuming we'll be pretty proud of our accomplishment and want to wear the medals that evening. Is that ok or considered cocky?
Always! You'll hear folks who earned more than one clanging all around, too. :thumbsup2

What is on your Disney bucket list? Name as many as you want and make them as realistic or far-fetched as your heart desires.
I'm local(ish) to WDW so there's not much I want to do that I haven't already. So my list is pretty pie in the sky, lol!

1. See FL AP prices drop significantly without losing benefits.
2. High-speed rail form home to WDW.
3. Eat at V&A once per month.

When the race gets closer and corrals are released we'll put together a comprehensive list of all the dis'ers running WDW weekend. It will include names, costumes, corrals, arrival to the corrals, potential pace/finish times, and a quick number crunch on what time of day you'll hit each of the major milestones in a race. This is done in an effort to help other dis'ers find each other on race day, meet up and chat pre-race, and then potentially find some other runners of similar goals for race day.

I'm thinking about my meals in the days leading up to the marathon (it will be my first), and I am curious what types of foods you folks recommend for breakfast, lunch, and dinner on both Friday and Saturday before the race on Sunday? Thanks!!

I somewhat try to eat normally leading up to a race (i.e. nothing new at races, including eating habits). That being said, I will make sure I have a good amount of carbs in the three days before a race.

You'll want to do what you've done at home during your training. As @opusone said, nothing new for the race. That said, I do recommend a gradual build up of carbs & hydration in the 4-5 days leading up to the race. I find this works better than a huge carb loading meal the night before the race. I will have a big pancake breakfast on Saturday (my coach always says to eat as many as I want), a light lunch if I eat one at all, and a simple meal of miso, sashimi, and steamed rice for dinner. My normal pre-long run meal during training is pizza and champagne or wine, but sashimi is my race tradition.

I agree with others - for me, the days leading up to the races are not the time to try new restaurants at WDW. I only stick to places I have been before.

DATW is the Monday after the marathon. Looks like you'll get two things crossed off your list fairly soon.

Awesome!! Looks like that will be added to our schedule

Excellent! Will definitely be looking for some friendly faces as I'll be running the races by myself this year ... Hoping I can recruit after everyone sees my shiny medals!

Ditto everyone! Nothing new. Know what your body tolerates before race day by simulating some of those meals during these next few months of training. I personally follow the Western Australian carb loading procedure on Saturday (between the Dopey half and Dopey full), but by no means is it something you need to do prior to your first full marathon. Every other meal on Friday will be my standard meals (we're staying at AKL Kidani with a full kitchen). B-eggs,cherries,oatmeal; L-chicken,apple,banana,carrots,Homemade protein bar; D-vegetables,grains,chicken,Homemade protein bar.

Pancakes (or Mickey waffles!) the morning before the big race works great for me, too. Then a sensible, moderate meal (usually chicken and rice) the night has served me well.

If I'm at home, PB and honey toast the morning of the race. If not at home, I like a Cliff Choco Chip bar. I make sure to drink water (not too much) first thing in the morning because I find I lose hydration during the night.

Lakefront Marathon (Milwaukee) for me on Oct 2nd (last weekend for POT). Would love to do the Milwaukee Marathon some day, but it's too close to Dopey weekend at this point for me to justify both. Same with the Madison Half (although I have done the full a few years ago) although I might swing that one again as a half some year.

Good luck in the Lakefront! I'd love to run Lakefront - it's one of the most convenient marathons for me and the course is amazing, but I'm not really marathon-ready by then. And I think I'm done on the POT. I could use yesterday's half for a new proof, but 15 seconds doesn't really seem worth it. So my current POT will hold steady at six minutes over my now-outdated-for-POT PR. As a repeat marathoner but first-time Dopey runner, that's probably for the best.

Pre-race eating is all over the map for me as my half marathon PR followed an unfortunate greasy pizza night with the kids - long story. I often plan for relatively plain chicken, veggies/salad and bread/pasta. My eating style doesn't really match my love of distance running - I'm a big fan of small plates, appetizers instead of entrees and salads. So having to eat more than usual but not too much is an annoying challenge. WDW works really well for me pre-race because, since my kids eat three meals a day and I'm with them, I usually eat well in the days before the races. Just no buffets, which I don't like anyway but am even more concerned about for race weekends. Can't remember who shared that buffet/Dopey story, but I appreciate the warning and am so sorry for your marathon experience! I loved Wave for pre-marathon dinner (chicken) and this year, we have an ADR at Yachtsman pre-marathon (hope that chicken is still on the menu.)

I absolutely hate race morning breakfast. The most I can do is half a bagel or half a piece of toast with peanut butter and half a banana. My husband suggested pasta with a little salt and I did that a couple times - but then I have to find protein. Ugh, I hate even talking about race morning breakfast.
