Marathon Weekend 2017!

Hi all, missed last years marathon weekend but I'll be back running the marathon for 2017. Hope everyone's prep is going well! Living and training in London (cold and wet) and running the Dublin marathon (cold and wet) in prep for Disney in January I'll take cold and wet please. Any kind of heat and Englishmen tend to frazzle, whilt then dramatically collapse

People aren't always discrete....at a local half a women ran into someone's backyard and was pulling her pants down on her way, In My opinion it is a a big deal because it's not necessary,... It makes it sound like runners are savage people who have no respect for other's property by saying it's perfectly normal.
It bothers some people, and not others, but it is normal for most races. Normal meaning within behavioral norms for distance runners. I have only had to do this once in a race, and it was at my first WDW half marathon. I was not prepared for the way the race was/is managed at the beginning and was lucky to make it to the tree line just past the starting line. WDW does a horrible job of providing access to the port a potties when you are in the corrals, and if you are in a later corral you might wait more than an hour once in your corral before you begin running. Add the pre-race hydration and you get potty emergencies like I have never experienced at another race.

...But you can get out of your corral and use a porta potty...I have and have seen many others do that too & you can usually get back to your spot in the corral. To each their own but it's not something I think is a "must". At an ultra in the woods yeah maybe it is a must but not a road race with porta pots like Disney.

Now I'm imagining the "Must Do Disney runDisney edition."
Stacy " You may have already done the behind the seeds tour, but have you watered the plants on Epcot Center Drive?" "Experience the thrill of stepping blindly into the forest, stumbling over sticks and sploshing into mud filled ditches"

I think the key takeaway from this whole discussion is "Bring hand sanitizer and wash your hands frequently if you plan on hi5'ing a lot of runners".

My son was standing on path from HS to Epcot by a mile marker during the marathon and he still talks about the sweaty phones people would hand him to take their picture. Obviously traumatic.

I switched to fist bumps with Hi5ers after MK due to sweaty (but sanitized!) hands - and wondered what sane parent would allow their kid to hi5 any runner...

Oe thing to consider if you get the urge to pee near the tree line on World. Dr.,Don't go too far in as you're likely going to step into 6-12 inches of water/mud!!it happened to me I think in my first Disney full, luckily not too bad but the last thing you want starting a marathon is a soaked shoe.A marathon that I ran earlier this year that honestly lacked port o potties or real bathrooms was the Celebration half marathon,I started getting thee urge pretty bad to go number 2 around mile 8 and I started realizing there weren't many options, you're running in residential neighborhoods and unless a port o potty showed up you seemed to be out of luck.Luckily around mile 9+ I saw a building that looked too big to be a house with a pool,I immediately thought it could be a clubhouse which luckily it was,it was locked as you probably needed a resident key to enter but about 10 seconds later a guy came to the door who was leaving,I worked my way in and used the nicest most private bathroom I ever used in a race.

Does anyone know what time the expo is open till on the 6th. Arrive around 1600 and want to know if i've got enough time to get to packet pickup and still make my ADR at le cellier for 20:00 .... Food takes priority popcorn::

Rundisney has not officially released the expo times yet for 2017, but in 2016 on Friday the expo was open 9:00am-7:00pm.

21 weeks, rD'ers! Less than 150 days. Summer is winding down and that means some better running conditions, at least for those of us north of the Mason-Dixon line. I think I convinced my DW to come down for the race weekend with my youngest, so I might not be flying solo after all! *fingers crossed*

This week's Sundays are for Disney Question:

Costumes during the race, yeah or nah? If yeah, what are you doing/have you done? Or, what ideas do you have for marathon weekend?

Since this is my first and I'm going to have a few dozen things to worry about, I'm not going to worry about a costume. I'll wear something I've ran in plenty of times before so I'm comfortable and there are no surprises. Maybe my Captain America UA shirt just to liven things up a bit. I did try to find an Incredibles running shirt, since that would look pretty cool and fit the weekend, but no such luck...

Have a great week everyone!

Don't let this being your first one stop you from wearing a costume. Lots of people wear them; you'll fit right in. Aside from my red sparkle skirt, which I wear for most of my long races these days, my favorite costume I've worn is my fairy godfather outfit. Pink tutu, blue wig, gold tiara, gold wand. I received lots of comments, was stopped for many pictures, and even had a group of people try to race me the last mile because they didn't want to get beat by a guy dressed like me. Apparently they'd been chasing me for a few miles.

Great story! I'm not worried so much about blending in, just having extra things to pack, run in, etc.

I wore a full body Flash costume for a mud run last summer (it did not survive), so I am definitely not anti-costume.
