Marathon Weekend 2017!

Costumes during the race, yeah or nah? If yeah, what are you doing/have you done? Or, what ideas do you have for marathon weekend?
I haven't really weird a costume but I did wear a Disney themed t shirt that I made for the 5K last year. With dopey this year I haven't decided what I'm going to do.

21 weeks, rD'ers! Less than 150 days. Summer is winding down and that means some better running conditions, at least for those of us north of the Mason-Dixon line. I think I convinced my DW to come down for the race weekend with my youngest, so I might not be flying solo after all! *fingers crossed*

Since this is my first and I'm going to have a few dozen things to worry about, I'm not going to worry about a costume. I'll wear something I've ran in plenty of times before so I'm comfortable and there are no surprises. Maybe my Captain America UA shirt just to liven things up a bit. I did try to find an Incredibles running shirt, since that would look pretty cool and fit the weekend, but no such luck...

Have a great week everyone!

This is my Eeyore onesie that I wore for the 5k last year and plan on running the 5k in this year:image.jpeg

It was a little hot and I may not run with the hood pulled up again like last year. I spent almost the entire race adjusting and readjusting the head; it was either too low and obscuring my vision or too far back and falling off my head. I got some good reactions and had a ton of fun so it was definitely worth it. Hoping to have a couple others in my group wearing Tigger, Pooh, etc. onesies for the 5k this year.

Still exploring ideas for the half marathon. My sister, cousin and I may attempt to run as Candlehead, Taffyta, and Rancis from Wreck-It Ralph. I am hoping we go through with it, but with a race of that length we usually take the easy route and make the decision to just go with normal running clothes.

Not a costume guy, but I am considering something for the 5k and 10k this year. Not sure how the women in the olympics were able to maintain that pace in that heat today. I ran 10 miles in hot /humid conditions today and lost 6 pounds.

I am always amazed by the elites; the weather just makes their accomplishments even more awe-inspiring. I was running on the treadmill while watching the race and felt very slow.

I'll be Mickey again (see my profile pic), this time with bright yellow shoes (I like Saucony Triumph shoes, and splurged on a yellow pair when they came out with their "Run Pop" line this summer). I just need to work out the logistics for schlepping big Mickey gloves around the course, as I'd like to wear them while waving at the park crowds (and at the cars while on Osceola Pkwy crossing dead-stopped World Drive) but not during the long hot slogs between parks.

For the 5K, which DD, DSiL, DH and I are running together, we bought customized t-shirts saying "I run for..." each person's favorite WDW treat - Dole Whip, Tonga Toast, Mickey Bars and caramel apples, respectively. Not a costume, but special for that race, anyway!

I'm gonna go with "nah" on this one. I have never been big into costumes, but I did try to represent the "spirit" of some characters at recent rD races. I realized that I don't enjoy putting the outfits together (just not very crafty), and I REALLY don't enjoy spending extra money. So I'll just be wearing stuff that I already have and love. :)

I did the same for Disneyland last year. Wore the silver anniversary mickey hands through the parks, then handed them off to friends who met me at mile 11 or 12 so I had them for the finish.

I do more Disney bounding than costume. Like for Princess 10k I had a purple top and green skirt & compression sleeves, I also made a headband with Sebastian on it. For Darkside half I did black skirt & shirt, the hood from My son's Kylo Ren costume and a headband that looked like Kylo's helmet. For the upcoming Dumbo 10k I'm going to be the Evil Queen with a purple top, black skirt, cape and gold head band. For the half I'm going to be Mickey with black shirt, red skirt and yellow runDisney shoes.

Not sure what I will do for the Marathon weekend races, but I'm sure I'll do something.

Don't let this being your first one stop you from wearing a costume. Lots of people wear them; you'll fit right in. Aside from my red sparkle skirt, which I wear for most of my long races these days, my favorite costume I've worn is my fairy godfather outfit. Pink tutu, blue wig, gold tiara, gold wand. I received lots of comments, was stopped for many pictures, and even had a group of people try to race me the last mile because they didn't want to get beat by a guy dressed like me. Apparently they'd been chasing me for a few miles.

I think you need to recreate this for the Dopey 10K. I'll do rags Cinderella, since I'll basically be chasing after you the whole race ...

I have never worn a costume in previous races and don't plan to in the future. Not the most creative and just I prefer wearing my clothes that I know am comfortable in. I love looking at other's costumes during the races. It is so cool to see the effort and creativity people have and I look forward to see what everyone comes up with in January!

This was my Princess Half costume this year. I bought the patch off of Etsy and just ironed it on a red running shirt. Added a black Sparkle Skirt and some arm sleeves until I got hot. I can't find a picture of me actually wearing it, lol. I will do something similar for the marathon as it is my first marathon and I want to be totally comfortable. :)

I've never done a costume before. We've always bought customized running shirts for the races in the past but that's been it. I'm debating doing something in honor of Donald for this year's half since it's an anniversary year.

I have worn costumes for past races. For the 2015 half marathon I ran as Tinkerbell and I ran with my brother (Peter Pan) and my sister (Wendy). 2015 Wine and Dine half marathon I dressed and made my Anna costume, and my sister was Elsa. For the 2016 10k, my family all had matching shirts and hoodies that said "our last name Running Team", and for the half marathon my sister and I reused our Anna and Elsa costumes.
I'm not sure what costume/character I'll be for the wine and dine races this year, or for the Goofy Challenge.
Dressing up is half the fun for us when we do the Disney races. Besides the training, coming up with a good group costume idea is challenging for 1 male and 2 females.

A buddy and I wore gigantic snowman costumes for the 5k during the inaugural Dopey. I ran dressed as buddy the elf when a buddy dressed as Santa at a local half. I've run as a giant stick of bacon in a couple other races and last year during the half a group of friends and I ran as Sadness, Anger, Joy and Bing Bong. The guy who ran as sadness found running in an sweater in Florida was pretty bad. I was Bing Bong and running in a Wool Blazer and Bowler hat was less than ideal.

I am only running with 1 person during the half this year. I think we have our costume idea, but haven't figured out how we will make them.
