Marathon Weekend 2017!

Anyone ever done a RunDisney registration on a phone browser?

I'm going to be at Disneyland on Tuesday when the registrations open, and I'm not packing my laptop, nor do I want to hang out in my hotel room until 9am. It's my DCA day and I want to make rope drop for RSR!

If I absolutely have to, I can take the laptop and change my plans around a bit, but I'd really rather be able to do it on my phone if anyone knows that it's possible.

(I want to register for the 5k or maybe the 10k if I'm feeling ambitious.)
Yes! I'm a little too paranoid to register on my work computer - I just did Wine & Dine registrations on my phone (5K, 10K and challenge) and Goofy Challenge. It was fine!

My wireless network at work can be a little spotty, so I changed to LTE to do it. Also plugged in my phone because my battery has been wonky lately. Other than a few fat-finger typos that I had to go back and correct, it was totally fine.

Thank you! I'm glad I don't need to haul my 15" laptop on cross-country flights and worry about having to lock it up in a Motel 6 room all week! :)

I'll share a few retreat thoughts! I thought it was nice to have before my first Disney half and before my first Disney full marathon. I'm glad I purchased the retreat for those "firsts" and because I was running on my own. I don't regret those purchases one bit. I liked the smaller scale of everything - race retreat porto-potties, smaller gear check, fewer people. I liked the temperature controlled tent and was less nervous about the cold. I liked not having to think about bringing or buying food before the race.

But now that I've experienced WDW races without the retreat, I probably won't purchase the retreat again. I can bundle up before the race and bring a space blanket. Immediately before walking to the corrals, I can check my extra clothes and keep the space blanket until I'm ready to cross the start. Now, I know the drill, I know where I'm going, and I don't mind just finding a spot on the ground with the masses. We discovered it's really fun to watch all the costumes and the crazy energetic entertainers outside the tent - I liked that atmosphere and energy more. I don't eat much before a races, and thought the concession lines outside the retreat were pretty quick for a bagel or granola bar. After the race, I'm not hungry right away and in my most recent experience, they wouldn't let anyone take even a half sandwich out of the retreat tent. So while I understand the rule, it means my family would have to wait outside the tent for me if I ate anything - those poor guys have already been waiting for hours by that point, so I feel like it's time for them to get on with the day!
Thank you very much.

This is very helpful.

New to the thread. I'm planning to register for Dopey and have a question about proof of time. How much will it help me move up in the corrals (I started in H this year), if I run a half marathon this spring in around 1:46 vs the 2:14 I ran during this year's Dopey? Any ideas/thoughts to my corral placement if I can submit the faster time? Thanks.
my buddy used 1:46 for his half proof of time for goofy last year. I am pretty sure he was in D. I think they pad the time you submit if you are registering for a challenge.

Hi everyone! I'm joining again after completing my first ever half marathon during marathon weekend back in January, but now I need some advice. I began training September 2015 using the Galloway training T-30 min run TH-30 min run Sa-long run and supplementing MWF with barre workouts. I lived in Boston throughout this whole training period and the weather and easy access to long runs was a part of my success, I believe. I want to run in some capacity during marathon weekend 2017, but I will be moving to Orlando (to work for Disney World actually) in July and I'm nervous about training in the heat. Does anyone have any advice going from training in the Northeast to training in the Summer/Fall in Florida? I have ambitions to do the full marathon, but I don't want to set myself up to fail. Thanks again so much! This thread was super helpful last year and I value everyones advice!

Staying at Beach Club Friday-Monday for Dopey in 2017.

Also thinking about getting Race Retreat again next year, but actually using it - I only used it this year on marathon day to drop my bag and then as a place to change my shoes. Looks like it comes with early entry to the Expo, which would probably be worth it in general.

My wife and I live in Seattle. When ever we go to Orlando we find in the summer we have to run very early in the morning otherwise the heat & humidity is too much for us ..... It doesn't dissipate sufficiently in the evening either.

Congrats on your new job. Part of me is envious!

Can't wait for registration to open tomorrow. We weren't planning to go for a few years, but have decided to run everything except the marathon next year as our 14yo DD will run with us!

I have a question about registering if someone can help please, do we all need to register separately, or can I do it for all of us? I have an active.com account, but DH and DD don't. TIA :earsboy::earsgirl:princess:

There's no way to avoid the humidity in Florida in the summer, only ways to deal with it. The best way is to teach yourself to run by level of effort and not by a given pace. A heart rate monitor is very useful for this as you can use it to keep your HR in a certain zone. On some really hot and humid days, staying in that zone will require an 11 min/mile. On cooler days, that pace might be 10 min/mile. In either case, you're putting forth the same amount of effort. Other tips:

- hydrate early and often
- consider eating ice pops (the kind in the plastic tube) to keep your core temperature down
- don't rush it. You'll need a few weeks to adjust to the weather, so don't jump right into where you left off. Reduce your mileage a bit until you acclimate.
- run very early in the morning. The humidity might still be up, but the air temperature will be down.
- consider wearing arm sleeves that you can wet to keep yourself cool

Once you get to September it's becomes a lot easier to run, oct/nov/dec are usually awesome training weather so it works well with marathon weekend since the longer runs hit then..

I live in central Florida and this is my first year I'm training through summer (vs starting hard training in sept) and yeah now if you don't start early it's miserable

Husband needs his own account but Daughter can be registered under your account. Each race for each person will be a separate transaction.

We are planning on staying at CBR. I put in a request to rent DVC points at the Poly, but haven't heard anything yet so I'm not getting my hopes up. Although, I really really reallllllllly want to stay there, so maybe my hopes are up a little bit. :hyper:

Which website do we register at? I've seen lots of talk of active.com but I'm not sure if it's there or at the rundisney website. I want to know what to have open in my browser at 11:45 tomorrow! :)

A bit more than 24 hours to wait for registration. I am planning to run the 10k and the half-marathon. Very happy that our Canadian dollar is getting stronger these days. This will be a solo trip and I am planning to stay at Port Orleans resort. Since I work evening shift this week, I will go for a run tomorrow morning with my partner (my dog Daisy) to calm my nerves and than wait till noon to do the race (registration). And checking the Disney store website for the in training shirt...

I could have written this myself - exact same feeling about RR! Glad I did it the first time - haven't missed not having it since. :thumbsup2

I'll echo @FFigawi : don't worry about pace - go by effort and feel. Let your body dictate the pace base don conditions. I'll add that the less sun, the better: I can't do pre-dawn runs, but I do use routes with plenty of shade. I hit the pool to do water running, or will go indoors on a treadmill, a couple times a week to give my body a break from the heat. Hydrate and hit the electrolytes. For marathon training last year, I started doing some of my super long runs by time, instead of distance: I knew I'd do the same distance at the same effort at a faster pace in Jan, so I'd use my avg winter pace to determine, say, how long 17 miles might take in cool weather and run that amount of time when it was 95* in early Oct. I had some naysayers, but it worked really well for me! What else... I carry a handheld water bottle and run routes with plenty of options to refill, and I never refill without also dousing myself in cool water (I now know which public water fountains are chilled - bonus!) I tie a bandanna around my wrist and soak that with water, too - it can stay on my wrist to wipe my face, or I can untie it and drape it soaked across my neck and shoulders for a little coolness and break from the sun beating down. SUNSCREEN! :thumbsup2

For those of you who have registered for runDisney races in the past...I'm seeing mixed reviews about hitting "refresh" once you are in the queue during registration. I've heard that you absolutely should not hit it because you will lose your place and then I see other people chant "refresh, refresh, refresh!" What say you?

If you get in queue with the little green man, do not refresh or you'll lose your place in line.
