No one should ever feel or be made to feel that what they are running or plan to run is not enough. For some people, a 5k is as much of an achievement as a half is for others. We all have different abilities and motivations for doing these races, and we should celebrate the fact that we're out there doing our best for us and not get dragged down by comparing ourselves to others.
I think it's easy to get caught up in the excitement here. I love Marathon weekend. 2017 will be my 6th Goofy and 7th year of Marathon weekend. I've done Dopey too but there's no reason to feel like anything isn't enough. The time commitment for training for the Marathon, Goofy and Dopey are all about the same, so it's really up to you how much time and money you want to spend on the races.
Rationally I completely agree with you - it's just that inner-crazy in me! Pre-Dopey, I never felt compelled to do the "Dumbo" (5K/Half/Marathon), but now that they've put a name on it and added a medal, it just draws me in. Marketing genius!
