Marathon Weekend 2017!

I have never really noticed EMH resulting in a significantly higher crowding. I know you said they've changed, but keep in mind that with Epcot the AM EMH really only applies to Future World. The World Showcase still won't be open until 11:00 or so.
Except for frozen ever after and the three caballeros those two attractions open with the park.

Very much looking forward to running Dopey in January - my first runDisney!

I have a question about the runDisney MagicBands. Anybody know when they tend to come out (looks like not until January last year)? Are they sold only at the Expo? And if so, any idea how quickly they sell out?

SO and I are both running Dopey, would love to get runDisney magic bands, but have an ADR at Be Our Guest at noon on Expo day. I thought the Expo opened earlier and that we could go there first then to lunch, but now I see it doesn't open until noon. Very unfortunate, since I cannot move that ADR up to later. So now one of us has to skip lunch or else we risk sold out merchandise if we go after lunch. :(

I believe they are only sold at the expo. They usually don't sell out.

Happy Sunday, runDisney All-Stars!

14 weeks to go until the marathon!

This week's SafDQ:

What are you listening to on your runs?

During races: Nothing. I ran the full marathon in 2015 without music and loved it. Since then, no music for any races from marathons to half marathons to 5Ks. It helps me keep my pace and breathing more consistent and I like focusing on the race and not the music. If I'm running with my kids, we're talking during the race. I also don't carry a phone or anything else. Very minimalist!

During treadmill training runs: Chromecast of Disney race youtube videos. Right now, marathon weekend, dopey and disneyland super heroes. Would love more ideas!

During outside training runs: Sometimes nothing and sometimes an assortment of songs that my kids put together to play in the car and I loaded to an ipod shuffle. It's a strange mix of broadway showtunes, classical, 80s, disney stuff and current pop music. It always includes Illuminations.

I wide variety of things. Some days it's my running playlist. Some days it's podcasts, usually Disney ones. And others days it may be my favorite YouTubers. But for races it's always music. I build custom playlists for them.

Only 14 weeks to go - wow, how time flies.

I run without music when with my wife and our little rD run group because I am acting as their trainer/coach and actively coach them throughout these runs. They are a lot of fun - my favorite runs of the week.

On my personal training runs, I have 6 playlists set up plus many other albums and music options . I choose a playlist or album based on my mood and the goal of a specific run. I have playlists at 160, 170 and 180 beats per minute - and one at 220 for intervals. On my long runs, I might listen to classical, a broadway play, or country music. But this reminds me - my iPod Nano is getting old/problematic and will need to be replaced very soon.

What are you listening to on your runs?
Mainly an eclectic mix of epic movie soundtrack and trailer clips - sweeping orchestral mood music with soaring choral backdrops, all while visualizing myself running from a detached overhead view panning across and behind me. I might not win the race, but this lonely yet determined runner will save the world...

Never have run with earbuds, so I'm in the nature category with chipmunks, squirrels, an occasional barking dog, dogs I can out run and dogs that can out run me, and yes the car that wants to come too close to me. I'm one of those "weird" runners who don't want any other "burden" when doing my thing. And yes, the buds and source are a burden for me.

Most of the time I leave it on my Pandora Thumbprint station. It's basically like station shuffle for Pandora and sometimes results in some clunkers (because it definitely does not play only songs I've given a thumbs up).

The primary stations it hits are Huey Lewis, DC Talk, Project 86, Five Iron Frenzy, No Doubt, Chvrches, Disney, and a few others. I'll listen to basically anything other than country.

When I'm on the treadmill I watch soccer or some other sports programming.

I don't listen to anything during races.

During training runs I listen to audiobooks. They occupy my mind and let my body get on with the business of running. I go through about one book a month so Audible has been perfect for me.

I have been listening to podcasts lately my favorites are The Runner's World Show, Another Mother Runner and Dis Pop
Me too--add in the Mickey Miles Podcast and you've got me covered. Sometimes I listen to Apple Radio Pop Workout. I learned that they don't play the clean versions of the songs .

Question for those who are experienced. Today I ran in a half-marathon and I was really, really slow. But the last 10 miles, I ran at a faster pace than I started. So, I started off too slow. My problem is that I feel too good now--I'm a little tired, but went shopping, got stuff done, etc. I need to build speed while I get my endurance up. Any suggestion for building speed? I don't want to run 7 hours-or worse, be swept!

Sounds like you ran the race the exact right way! Tempo runs work for me in increasing speed, but I'm not as hardcore a runner as some of the other folks here, so listen to what they say.
