Marathon Weekend 2017!

It looks like I'm flying solo for marathon weekend and I really hate sitting at a table by myself for dinner. What are you favorite restaurant bars where you can also order food?
Paradiso, but not sure about the bar menu - but I have to believe you can order off the food menu at the bar...

I second whoever said Tune In Lounge. Can get crowded though with people waiting for 50's Primetime. Nomads at AK, Sanaa at AKL has a bar, Kona Island at the Poly are a few more.

We're looking for lunch in January at B&C too, as are others on the Disney Dining Reservations board, without success. There's some speculation that Disney has decided to stop taking ADRs for lunch at B&C but so far as I know, no official word from Disney. I just looked for a Dinner ADR there and was offered 8:15 PM, but of course that doesn't say anything about whether lunch ADRs are just booked up or no longer available. Hopefully the situation will be clarified by the time we get there!

Just FYI, I went on to just check for lunch ADRs at Beaches and Cream today and they had multiple openings, so I was able to get lunch booked there for our trip!!

EDIT - Oops, just saw you had posted this already above!! Glad you got yours as well.

Beaches and Cream seems to be the popular choice for lunch! We were hoping to do it on Thursday after I do the 5K and everyone else arrives but we couldn't get lunch. We got 5:20 before they opened up the lunch spots but I think I'm going to keep that. Gives everyone else time to go to the expo and still early enough for me to get decent sleep before the 10k!

The only ADRs I have are for California Grill Saturday night to celebrate running the half and a late breakfast at Kona Cafe on Friday after the 10k. Also want to fit in Earl of Sandwich and O'hana in room dining somewhere. Not having every meal planned like usual is killing me but I'm nervous about eating out too much before running!

Hi Guys!
I have some (probably silly) questions about Proof of Time.

We are running the 1/2 marathon, so I know that we need a 10K for Proof of time. We are having a hard time finding one in the area, but there are plenty of 5Ks. If we can't find a 10K, is it worth it to sign up for a 5K and submit it? Will that at least keep us out of the last corral?

Even a slower 10K proof of time is better than nothing, correct? Though we are working hard to get ready for a 10K for proof of time (and ultimately the half), I am not sure what our pacing will be. We are usually between around 12-12:30 per mile, but a bad day could be just above 13:00 minutes.

Thanks!

5K won't be accepted for POT - it has to be a 10K or longer, per rD:

  • Proof of time must be provided from an officially timed race reflecting results after January 1, 2015 and must be one of the below listed distances. Runners will be placed in the last corral if the appropriate race distance is not submitted for Proof of Time.
    • Half Marathon – 10K, 12K, 15K, 10 Mile, Half Marathon or Marathon
    • Full Marathon – 10 Mile, Half Marathon or Marathon
We don't know exactly how corrals will be broken down, but a 13:00 10K pace would certainly not correlate to the last corral. The last corral is supposed to be for those who do not submit POT at all, then a few more corrals before it for slower times. Remember that the minimum required pace is a 16:00 mile, so 13:00 would be placed ahead of everything between 13:00 and 16:00.

I'll echo what the other folks have said. You need a 10k for proof of time. As for the slower vs faster question, either of those paces you mentioned will make a HUGE difference in starting corral. Based on what I've got in my records from the 2015 WDW half, there were 17 corrals (Elite, Corral A - Corral P). A 10k at a 12:00/mile pace would place you around Corral H (9th corral) and a 13:00/mile would place you around Corral I (10th corral). There may be some variation year to year, but this should give you an idea of how much of an impact that proof of time can have on starting position.

As you stated, a 10k is required for proof of time. Stranger things have happened, but I doubt runDisney will accept a 5k instead.

Thank you for the responses.

As for the 5K, I know it isn't technically what they require-hence why we are looking for a 10K- but I was hoping maybe the 'something' is better than 'nothing' would work in my favor.

Now the tricky part- finding a 10K we can do! We have about 5 weekends in the next two months that *could* work for us, but we can't seem to find ANY that are during that time. I'm afraid any that we do find at this point won't meet the criteria to be considered valid- like somehow not 'officially timed' or something.

Have you tried the site runningintheusa.com? They have a race calendar there that breaks down races by the distance and you can drill down to a particular state also. Might help you find one you didn't know about.

Hi everyone! It's been some time since I posted here... but it looks like I might run the marathon again in January. I noticed for the proof of time it says they allow times going all the way back to January 2015. I seem to remember in years past it only went back the previous years and not two. That's not a typo right? You can go back two years for POT?

I don't believe it's a typo, I think the POT window is two years. I'm not sure whether that's a change in policy for rD or not, but two year appears to be uniform across other race weekends.

Disney has usually been two years back from race day.

25 weeks everyone!

I honor of this little milestone (really, last week would've been better, but I just thought of this - so back off ;) ) I figured I'd include you all in a little game I play with my kids called Sundays are for Disney. Each Sunday, I ask my girls a different question about the WDW - What is your favorite park/ride/restaurant? What would you do with one day and a park hopper? Etc. It's a nice way to just think about the parks and engage with my girls.

Anyway, anyone that is willing can now participate in Sundays are for Disney - Disboards Edition! I'll try to throw a question in with the weekly countdown, you all can answer and maybe we'll have a lively discussion. (Or maybe you'll all think it's lame and not participate. In that case, thank you for preparing me for teenagers!)

So, here goes:

WDW Marathon vets, what is your favorite moment of the marathon? First-timers, what are you looking forward to the most about your first marathon?

As a first-timer, I am most looking forward to running through the Magic Kingdom at dawn.
