Marathon Weekend 2016

The hotel we are staying at before flying to Orlando tomorrow has a real snazzy fitness center, but... Neither treadmill works. Did 20 min of elliptical, which wasn't too bad after all. Still!

Random thought I would like to share with yall, or more like an opinion poll. With every new year my facebook feed is suddenly filled with gym comments, running, and crossfit. I think its great people are at least making an attempt, and I really do my best to support those individuals. Every now and then some of them keep with it and things work out great. I also used to think runners posted every single detail all the time, but I think crossfitters may top us runners. Obviously I'm guilty of the running thing because I am posting on a forum for running, but at least yall expect it... So who post more to social media about a workout, RUNNERS or CROSSFIT?

I vote crossfit.

Crossfit for sure.

I'm trying to get @mbwhitti to come run Princess with me - with the PowerBall jackpot as high as it is, I told her our first stop between the airport and the Expo is to buy lotto tickets. :crazy2:

I've been telling people that I've always wanted to be a PowerBall winner when I grow up ... now seems like a great time to make that happen!

Wooooo Powerball! It's ours to win! rD races for life!

Headed to Disney tomorrow. Have run several marathons, half marathons, 10 milers etc but never Disney (back of the pack runner---I am not fast but I finish). Am doing the Dopey Challenge as part of the "Run for our Sons" team (Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy) and am excited :)

Anyone else coming solo? Just me on this trip (family couldn't come) so if anyone else wants to get together for dinner, hang out etc....hit me up.

Welcome to the thread! There are several people in the thread that are going solo. I have never participated, but I understand that there is a WISH meet on Friday afternoon at Pop Century. Around 4pm I believe? Good chance to connect with some of us other solo folks as well as all the other folks that will be there. Anyway, hope you have a great race, well four great races!

I am staying at POP and should be at the meet up. Plan is to drive up early Friday morning.

If anyone is interested, prior to the start of the marathon before heading to the corrals, potentially a small group of us from Louisiana are going to say a short little prayer. Let me know if you are interested and I'll post the details as plans become more concrete as far as exact location and time.

I think we should turn this into a math problem for Keels....

Speaking of math, how many of you do pace math while you run.... At every mile I like to re-estimate my finish time based on different paces. I find the math gives me something to do and I can tell how my body is holding up by how hard the math is.

Math while running is fun until it's not. Here's an excerpt from my Comrades race report last year about two MBAs trying to do math while running an ultra.

"Now we knew we'd be able to finish so long as we kept moving forward at at least a 15 min/mile pace. Or so we thought. For two MBA grads, we were having a hard time with math at this point. Converting from km into miles was hard enough. We then had to figure out how much time we had left for an 11:30 finish and a 12-hour finish, divide that by the miles we thought we had converted, and come up with some sort of a pace, all before the next km marker sign showed up and we had to start over again. We kept coming up with paces ranging from 12 to 16 min/mile and were never really sure which one was right."

One more note for the marathon on Sunday - when you exit DHS and start heading towards Boardwalk, keep an eye out for the WISH supporters in bright green shirts on the right hand side. WISH is the parent of this forum, and people from that board as well as this one will be out there on Sunday passing out twizzlers, candy, and maybe orange slices depending on if Disney security cracks down on them or not. You can also meet a lot of them at the meet up at POP on Friday afternoon.

I'm interested :)

Standing in the hotel waiting for an airport shuttle at 4:00 AM and seriously questioning the intelligence of beginning a Dopey weekend with a 6:30 AM flight. Oh well, I'll be at Disney World in a few hours so what's one extra day of no sleep?

Consider it good training for the rest of the week. You'll be standing in a hotel waiting for a shuttle at 4am for the next four days. :)

I feel your pain! Day 1 of 5 has begun as my bus leaves for the drive to Detroit! Disney awaits in only 8 hours... So excited I think I could run there.
