I might be interested. Trying to figure out what my race morning schedule is going to look like.If anyone is interested, prior to the start of the marathon before heading to the corrals, potentially a small group of us from Louisiana are going to say a short little prayer. Let me know if you are interested and I'll post the details as plans become more concrete as far as exact location and time.
I remember reading that. I run with an actuary and a stats guy so running math is one of the ways we pass our time. We've never had to add a unit conversion to our process though.Math while running is fun until it's not. Here's an excerpt from my Comrades race report last year about two MBAs trying to do math while running an ultra.
"Now we knew we'd be able to finish so long as we kept moving forward at at least a 15 min/mile pace. Or so we thought. For two MBA grads, we were having a hard time with math at this point. Converting from km into miles was hard enough. We then had to figure out how much time we had left for an 11:30 finish and a 12-hour finish, divide that by the miles we thought we had converted, and come up with some sort of a pace, all before the next km marker sign showed up and we had to start over again. We kept coming up with paces ranging from 12 to 16 min/mile and were never really sure which one was right."
I'm trying to gradually switch to an earlier schedule. This morning goal was to be at the gym running close to 6.... I opted to sleep in 20 minutes, browse the disboards then run after work.Consider it good training for the rest of the week. You'll be standing in a hotel waiting for a shuttle at 4am for the next four days.![]()
I use a 920, it is a fantastic watch...Please pardon the slight hijacking of this thread. I ordered a new Garmin 920XT in the wrong color. I wanted black, clicked on the wrong button by mistake, and ended up with red. Before I send it back, I wanted to see if anyone here is interested in it. $310 and it's all yours. It's waiting at my house in Florida and I can send it to you when I get there next week. I realize most of you are spending all your money at the expo this week, but if anyone is interested, please DM me and let me know.
We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming of waiting in line at the expo, hoping all the good stuff is not gone before you get there, and checking the weather fourteen times today.![]()

One more note for the marathon on Sunday - when you exit DHS and start heading towards Boardwalk, keep an eye out for the WISH supporters in bright green shirts on the right hand side. WISH is the parent of this forum, and people from that board as well as this one will be out there on Sunday passing out twizzlers, candy, and maybe orange slices depending on if Disney security cracks down on them or not. You can also meet a lot of them at the meet up at POP on Friday afternoon.
Apply Body Glide very liberally. Wet clothing makes chafing a lot worse. Make sure to apply to all areas of your feet, even between toes.So it looks like there is a decent chances of a wet half and full. Do you all have any tips for running in the rain?
So far I think the common ones are;
1. Wear a big black garbage bag to keep dry in the corral. Just get it way off course before you start running.
2. Bring multiple pairs of shoes. One pair of shoes for each race and then something different to walk around the park.
3. Bring an extra pair of socks with you so you can change them out during the full if they get soaked.
4. Cover the lower vents on your shoes with duck tape until the race starts to keep your feet dryer (i've heard but never tried this)
5. Wear less. I ran flying pirate in the rain and everything got soaked through. i found the less I fabric I was wearing the less I had to soak up water and get heavy. ( So I'd wear a tank top instead of a t-shirt) Most of the guys wound up going shirtless just to make it easier.
6. Wear a visor.
Any other ideas or corrections to this list.
Just adding a suggestion to this...put your extra set of dry clothes in a large ziploc in your check bag. We learned this lesson the hard way during Wine & Dine 2014 when our check bags got soaked and actually had water them when we picked them up.Additional running in the rain advice
- Pack a set of dry clothes and shoes in your check bag and change into them as soon as possible after the race. Your core temperature will drop rapidly once you stop running, so you need dry warm clothes to keep from getting chilly.
Thank you! Our concern is mostly for his fatigue level, wanting a wheelchair as a precaution in case he starts having issues with all the walking and standing. This is very helpful.![]()
- Enjoy the rain once you're running in it. Having a negative attitude about it will only make it seem worse. Think back to when you were a kid splashing in puddles and keep that joy in mind as you go.
