Marathon Weekend 2016

My head is back in this! :) Since a hip pain 2 weeks ago, that I was convinced was a stress fracture, I have lost most of the excitement over this. I haven't even been able to bring myself to print the waivers I've been so upset. After driving myself crazy I finally went in today for an xray. No fractures and the theory is the tissue in there was a little inflamed from the long run a few days earlier, causing it to hit or pinch the nerves there (the zapping/shocking pain I felt while running). This may not be a bust after all. NOW this just got real! :cool1:

Weather Update 12-21-15 @ 3:00PM CST:

1/7 - Low 54 - High 71 Sun and Clouds
1/8 - Low 55 - High 73 Clouds, Little Rain
1/9 - Low 56 - High 75 Cloudy w/ Rain Ending
1/10 - Low 55 - High 73 Clouds and Sun

From the looks of the long range forecast, it appears the a weak front will be making its way through during marathon weekend. The day after the marathon appears to be the day when the RH% comes down and cool temps will settle in for a few days. Its still a long ways away, but the temp ranges have been holding in the same range for several days now. Like I said earlier, its still a good ways away and a lot can change. I don't hate the current forecast.

Those are pretty close to the historical averages for those days, just a bit warmer. I like it. It'll be fun keeping an eye on the forecast for the next few weeks.

This is Florida. Worrying about the weather this far out is a little crazy in my opinion. They are forcasting fronts that not even formed yet.

I am down here in South Florida and the weather whether it rains or not can change within minutes. Look what happen at November's wine and dine. 7 p.m. there was nothing on the radar, 9pm they're clearing everybody out of the holding area. The storm downdrafts were impressive.

I understand predicting the weather in South Florida is very tricky, but it does become a little more predictable in the winter months of the year. It's a discussion point for the board to talk about. Maybe someone who has never run in the possible race conditions can learn some sort of tip that could better their race day experience, or give them idea for something that haven't previously thought about. I'd also like to add that since we have a forecast (regardless of accuracy) we are reminded the race day is quickly approaching. I did mention in my post that a lot can change... Odds are there is probably an equal amount of people that are interested in the forecast this far out as their are to people who consider it crazy. We just happen to be on the opposite side of that fence. At the end of the day we are all crazy for running the amount of miles we have run in preparation for, and on race day/days.

Finally hit double digits and completed 10 miles. It was my longest to date and I feel ready for the half in just a few weeks. Hope everyone is enjoying the last few weeks of training! I've been embracing this bizarre weather we are having in philly. My lungs are anti cold so it works out. Let the taper begin!

Guess nothing changed on the costume front with RunDisney. Their website is the same wording.
and

Anyone know if Cast member discount is good on official Run Disney merchandise at the expo?

True...and if the temps are not exactly what @LSUlakes predicts/reports, THERE WILL BE RETRIBUTION!!!! :stir:

But seriously...last year at this time the long-range forecasts were already projecting well below normal temps so it's refreshing (for this Buckeye) to see temps that are around normal! I'll take it! I need sun and warmth - bad!

Being a Floridian this is what I've been dealing with day in and out right now. I know the weather here changes daily but use the forecast as a guide because usually it will be in the ballpark. Monitoring the weather as a Floridian is to stressful. My wife is a planner and she is going crazy not knowing what to pack.

I have a weird question. Disney gives out the finisher medal to people who don't finish but will not give out challenge medals to people who don't finish. How does that happen? How do the people who don't finish get their medals?

I don't know exactly how this works, but I think people who are swept are transported to the finishing area and are given the option of receiving the race medal. I'm not sure why someone who didn't finish a race would want the finisher medal, but that's a black hole of a discussion/argument that I'm not really interested in delving into. I believe rD treats challenges differently as part of the larger effort to make sure only challenge finishers get those medals (i.e. making sure single race runners don't erroneously/surreptitiously get a challenge medal), but I wouldn't be shocked if I heard they gave challenge medals to non-finishers in the future. In general, I just think they don't want to waste time and energy arguing with people about whether or not they get their medals.

Just a weird thought in my head. I personally wouldn't want it if I didn't finish. I would see it as a motivator to train harder or proper or both in my case. I don't ever remember seeing people just being handed medals at the finish that didn't finish.

I actually thought about getting a glass slipper medal off eBay the year I did the unofficial glass slipper challenge. Ended up not doing it because I saw it as unofficial even though I ran the 10k and the half.

Just got an email from rundisney with "race weekend details" nothing new. They do have the costume rules listed in the email and it doesn't look like any of the wording has changed from the website.

You may not realize it, but you possibly opened a can of worms. :)

This has been hotly debated in the past.

From what I've read ... they give it to you as you get off the sweeper bus - so unless you were looking at the people getting off the sweeper buses, you probably wouldn't have seen it.

ETA: Not trying to start (or get involved in) a debate about medals, just sharing a thought as to why you may not have seen it happening.

I haven't compared it word-for-word, but it looks like the same email we got a few weeks ago. Which is weird to me ... unless this is their way of confirming that costumes are allowed.
