Marathon Weekend 2016

I think for costume I am safe since I'm just wearing Minnie/Epcot themed running gear. Stuff I'd be able to wear inside the theme park without anyone batting an eye. Even though it sparkles.
But I was looking forward to seeing all the wacky costumes other people come up with!

I'm thinking that I will be bringing my magic band, couple $ for my pocket, my throwaway jacket w gloves if needed, and my cell phone only for the 5k. No headphones this time...I've liked my no music races the last two times even though they were accidental no music races. I like running better without them in my ears too...and this may be the only race that I care so little about pace that I probably will just use the actual time on my cell as my cue if I should wait for a picture or not at any given time. So weird for me to think about because of how closely I follow pace all the other times I run. (now if Santa somehow gifts me a running watch then of course I will wear that and use it!!!) Do they play loud music at the corrals anyways for me to get pumped up to before the races if I don't bring any?

Should I slip a driver's liscense in my cell phone case too just in case I want a post race beer? :) All of my sweat may be perceived as a youthful glow right, and make me look years younger?

Looks like my Eeyore costume may be out. I'll probably just go with running gear for all of the races now unless rD clarifies things at some point in the next month.

I wouldn't reach out to runDisney yet. This was just started resort-wide today...as well as at Disneyland, SeaWorld and Universal. Keep an eye on their Twitter feed, I guess.

I think they need to clarify what a "costume" is. To me, Disney bounding is not a costume - my Princess 5K outfit for this year is Daisy-inspired (white skirt, purple shirt and a pink visor), so I guess you'd call that Disney bounding. Regular running outfit that happens to be Daisy colors. But they need to be clear about where they draw the line. :confused3 And probably stop promoting their races using pics of people in costumes in the meantime, until their official stance is sorted out and communicated to everyone.

This.

Also, I think the concept of "costumes" being worn in the parks is completely different than "costumes" being worn when people participate in these races.

::yes:: I retell this story all the time, because that weekend seriously scarred me for life, lol! I wasn't running, but I was at WDW that 2010 marathon weekend and happened to be up and out early the morning of the half... I'll never forget getting into my car at the resort and trying to make sense of the little blobby, crystal-y things pelting down on my windshield... and the 20+ year northerner in me finally pulling it out of memory, "OMG, it's SNOWING!!!!!" Then getting to the TTC and seeing some half finishers on the monorail; they literally looked blue-toned, they were so devoid of color, and shivering harder than I thought was humanly possible. I couldn't even imagine being in their shoes. Since then, I've amassed a huge collection of potential throwaway race clothes, plus a lifetime supply of mylar blankets, just in case, lol!

I survived the Sleety 2010 Half Marathon (the water stops were particularly tricky... ice patches here and there).

55F sounds just fine to me ;)

23 days and counting??? (He he...we have the holidays, New Years, and a wedding anniversary in those 23 days... I keep forgetting)

This +1
Besides I'm not running in a costume, I'm just running in my typical pink shorts and shirt, yellow compression socks, suit jacket and bowler hat like I always do.

I think we will have a good idea of what's happening with Costumes when the Light Side waivers come out. It seems like the rules they want to truly enforce go on there (hello Selfie Stick rule). So maybe someone who is doing that C2C double can post what it says or what it doesn't when it comes out.

And yes I checked ours, there is nothing on them currently.

On another note maybe it wasn't so bad I couldn't find my Cap shield shirt before I flew yesterday.

I think that we'll be a test case for runDisney ... whatever they decide, they may change it after marathon weekend, depending on how it works out for us.
It's just a matter of rD and security or theme park management (I don't know who sets these policies) getting together and figuring out how these rules apply to an entity/event like runDisney.

Does anyone remember ... is security at rD events done by park security or does runDisney have their own security?

Both DLH and W&D were done by park security.

Thanks for the info.
I think that if they do choose to use the metal detectors and whatnot, if it's park security, they should have the procedures pretty well figured out by then.
Don't know how it'll affect the costume issue, but whatever the new policy is, at least we know (or hope) they're trained in the latest policies and procedures.

Maybe this is just Disney's way of getting everyone to buy more merch ... because if you suddenly less than a month before the race learn that you can't wear your costume, now you have to buy some runDisney merchandise to wear for the race!

ok, found this on facebook in the runDisney group, posted by Meghan S:
"Okay this is what I was just told when I spoke with runDisney and just came to them in an email... they are still evaluating how this costume rule will impact runners. And are trying to determine how best to allow runners to express their passion for Disney, while maintaining the safety of everyone. At this time they are highly suggesting that runners for WDW marathon weekend and DL Star Wars weekend bring extra running clothes, so that they can change if need be, and stay compliant with the ever changing rules. They also asked us to watch the social media rD pages and website for updates. That is verbatim what they were told to share if people call to ask. I called the DL line and WDW line as well. Got that info from the WDW, and DL took my name and number to call me back with info."

As of right now runDisney is being told different things by different Disney officials, so it's sit tight until we get an official word. I'm betting we're safe, there's no way they can remove half the runners for breaking the rule as it stands

I'm anxious to see what the official rule is. A few different messages I've seen on facebook - one even said she was told it would mean NO hats as well. I find that hard to believe as people wear hats/visors all the time in park & in racing. My outfits are running attire with embellishments including a tail and hair attachments. I can understand banning the full mask outfits as I thought that already was in place but people were anyway, like the antman and spidermans I saw online at Avengers.

There always has been a ban on costumes for adults in the parks outside of the races and special events (24 hr party). This isn't something new, they have turned away people for showing up in costume before on non event days. So no it shouldn't affect the races because it's not a new rule.

Maybe there was a change in age. But I remember reading years go about this rule. And the no mask rule which apparently they will be cracking down on and might actually affect the races.

this is what I thought when I first heard about it

If they do decided that this effects the races then they are going to have to firmly define what entails a costume, for instance my planned outfit is just a running shirt with an eyeball and a MU hat...would that be considered a costume? But I cant see them changing the it so close to race day especially not considering the guide states costumes are allowed/encouraged....but we will all have to play the waiting game and come up with backup plans in case
